Nokia Booklet 3G hits the unboxing phase of its product cycle
Might as well add your own soundtrack, because chances are, you won't be able to understand what the narrator with a tattoo on his left hand is saying. Not that you really need, as you can probably get the gist of this Nokia Booklet 3G unboxing. We've got blue packaging, a power brick, a "Hello, Hei" greeting just under the portable itself, and a fairly sleek portable to boot. Of course, with a $800 price tag on the outside and an Atom processor on the inside, it's not the most attractive of combinations. See the whole kit and caboodle after the break.

Great, yet another netbook.
Not that great
My German's a little rusty, what was he saying about the trachpad?
its not german ;)
Yeah. Language fail, I'm pretty sure it's Greek.
He wasn't saying anything about the touchpad, he was merely stating that it is a very robust construction.
it's Greek not German ;)
Its nuts that anyone would buy this, you could almost buy a macbook for this price
For the price of a macbook you could get this, a zune HD, and a pretty descent external harddrive. The 3g on this may give that combo the edge.
Not here you can't. It it half as much again for the basic white macbook, at the pre order price of £500. A Macbook is £750. The base model Macbook Pro is £900.
I guess you are basing the price on the way engadget bastardises their euro conversion prices.
@matt
+1 "on the way engadget bastardises their euro conversion prices." WIN!
Far and away the nicest looking netbook there is. Really thin too.
Agreed, and built-in 3G should really be a given on these netbooks/booklets these days...
Seconded, the best looking netbook I've seen thus far. Plus having built in 3G and GPS is convienient.
It's funny how Engadget and some commentators keep ignoring the fact that is not only a netbook, but packs a full range of features that no other netbook has presented so far:
- 720p resolution screen
- Aluminum chassis
- GPS
- 12 hour battery life (!!!)
- 3G HSDPA
720p has been an option on some netbooks for a while now (I have it on my Dell Mini) but the rest you're right about.
The chassis looks plastic to me. I do believe both you guys are mistaken.
@Brendan: I do believe you are out of touch. It IS a one-piece aluminum chassis. Read it yourself:

Don't tell me Apple has patented the word "Unibody" too.
far better looking than a mac book and cheaper to boot!
I agree !! I wish this was 19" with a C2D, i really dig the design but 13" is the minimum for me.
Wait what? Apple charges you every time you boot up your computer? Lame.
Atom with 1GB of RAM, which can't be added makes this rather useless. In tests opening apps will take over 40secs.
Have you actually ever USED a netbook? I have a Dell Mini 10 with the SAME old Atom processor and the SAME meagre 1mb or Ram and the experience you describe is about as foreign to me as it comes.
If you HAD a netbook, what apps would you like to run on it? I assume your expectations are coloured by your needs, but for some people a low powered netbook will not fit that.
You don't need to have used anything to review it. Not on teh internets.
Love it, except it does need a bigger screeen, just to fill up the space a bit more.
No it doesn't not need to have a bigger screen. This would defeat what it's supposed to be about, very portable.
If you need a bigger screen, this is not the device for you.
People complaining about the not big enough screen, no bluetooth, no enough powerful processor etc. is what is killing the low cost netbook. They are just becoming regular priced small laptops.
For those people that complain about netbook, just don't you just go out and get a small laptop with all the frills ?
glossy screen. no dice.
I would have considered this very seriously if Nokia had upped the screen size to 11.6". IMO, that is the optimal tradeoff between ultimate portability, light weight (provided they could keep it within 3lbs) and long-term usability (given its 12hr battery life) without eyestrain. Maybe they'll make one in the future, but anything more than $600 for an Atom processor is a bit much.
Would have prefered news on the N900...
There you go! Nokia lost a customer in me. That 12 hrs battery life was really had me dreaming about purchasing this netbook. But for $800, nah! I'd better pick a Dell mini.

too little too late and too expensive
Once again Engadget never learns. A normal conversion from Euro to Dollar just does not work. We have seen lot of European released products sold here in a $1 to 1eu conversion rate. So that thing could be under $600.
That "phenomenon" always happens and engadget ALWAYS call it wrongly. Then they would make a post acting surprised that it is actually cheaper stateside. Well duh.....
I think Engadget should be responsible for that kind of misinformation. Well they can say that the conversion are this and that which is the reason they came up with $800. But then again with a statement like this: " ....with a $800 price tag" - Dude the price tag does not say $800; it says €570. Get the facts straight.
These reports are just subtle but slanted. Subtle, but slanted.
I'm sure Engadget does this intentionally -- they don't like Nokia.
@WickedEast: I'm pretty sure, too.
This is easily the best netbook on the market. I would gladly pay a couple hundred more for a netbook with GPS and 3G integrated, not to mention HDMI out, the longest battery life available and Windows 7.
I think that's a beautiful piece of hardware. Not sure if I'll ever buy a netbook though. My thin-and-light laptop and iPod Touch serve pretty much all my needs, from portable web access and videos to more serious computing power and dvd playback. Would be nice to have the 3G though.
Gangbanger tat from when you rolled with your boyz back in the day.
thank you very very much, i love Nokia.
Love it!
