OLPC gets microwaved, molded into stunning piece of art
We've seen quite a few a) laptops and b) masterpieces in our day, but it's hard to recall the last time that we saw both in the same instance. Have a look at the object above, which is undoubtedly one of the most amazing pieces of laptop art this planet has ever had the pleasure of seeing. Kenny Irwin, known for his post-microwave creations, decided to zap one of the low-cost PCs and then mold it into the OLPCSlug while things were still gooey, all in the name of good publicity and charity. You see, the buyer of this lovely piece will see 80 percent of the proceeds head straight to OLPC, and given that it will also "help keep you safe from forest beasts of unimaginable size," those currently situated in backwoods retreats have an extra reason to plunk down. The only problem? That $26,001 asking price. A can't-miss demo video is after the break.

SciFi show special effects people should watch that vid, and listen to it, to hear how the crackling of an EMP'ed device actually sounds, and see how the sparks are inside and jumping out once a while.
The "song" at the end coupled with the extremely strange opening as well as the creepy sculpture and not to forget the very unsettling interior design choices of his house really freaked me out!
I'm kind of frightened... I don't want to meet this FrankenOLPC in a dark alley and would not want to make the acquaintance with the Samir 9000 nor would I ever step into these rooms (I would not be able to sleep ever again)...
His song is now available on the iTunes Store. Currently sitting at the number 4 spot. Only 99cents, or you can now buy his iTunes LP for $26,001.00.
This is really wasteful and pointless, not to mention environmentally irresponsible. It is also completely awesome!
Where are Jory and Riley when you need them? http://www.youtube.com/jpizzle1122
This greatly damages the environment.
Did anyone actually watch this all the way through? Note how the "slug" isn't made up of ANYTHING that has to do with the OLPC... It's just a weird THING on top of a microwaved OLPC... I bet it still smells like all hell, and it killed a few Africans in the making anyway...
Is this guy out of his MIND?
20% of $26,001 is $5,200... He is making a killing killing the environment and brain cells...
Can anyone else see this kid being a mass serial killer?
I think its kinda cute. .
"The only problem? That $26,001 asking price." -- Normally I'd ask, "Is he insane?"...but it just seems redundant.
I would like to purchase your art work. Does anyone have change for a button?
I thought there was Terminator gonna to appear during this cookin (you know, all these sparks and flashes...), but appearently someone has screwed somethin up with the teleporter...
Due to budgetary restraints,we have hired a new fx crew for the highly anticipated Transformers 3
Really - I can't believe a) someone would do this and b) I watched the entire clip?
Quit watching after the melting was done
this thing looks terrible, what a waste of time
this sucks what a waste
I'm disgusted.
This is a complete waste of perfectly usable technology. >:(
I nearly soiled my armor...
was i the only one with the "fire burnen, fire burnen on the dance floor" song stuck in their head watching this revolve into flames?
Art? Are you sure? I'm not seeing any concept or artistic vision in this piece of cr*p art. In fact, if anything I would say it was done purely for financial gain (admittedly by a charity, so it's perhaps not quite as pathetic as it could be) rather than expression, aesthetic or portrayal of concept.
