Toshiba debuts Qosmio X500 gaming laptop with Blu-ray, bitten bullet
We haven't heard all that much from Toshiba on the Blu-ray front since it finally bit its tongue and went Blu at the beginning of this month, but it looks like its now starting to bring the rest of its products up to speed, like this newly-revised Qosmio X500 gaming laptop. As with its predecessors, this is one big and burly laptop, with it boasting an 18.4-inch, 1920 x 1080 screen, a 2.8GHz Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250MNV graphics, up to 8GB of RAM, dual 500GB hard drives, and not just a Blu-ray drive, but a Blu-ray burner as the standard optical drive. No word on a price just, if you need to ask, but it looks like this one should be available in the UK in late October.

You know, I'd love playing TF2 or some other FPS in bed, but without a solid mouse, it's impossible. Someone really needs to come up with a solution to that. Then I'd buy a hardcore "gaming laptop."
I play video games on the couch, if you just grab a flat surface for the mouse and set it up right you should be able to play pretty well. Of course this is with a 13.3" laptop that only puts out mild heat, i'm sure this one will make sure your nice and sterile.
its called a wireless mouse
playing TF2, L4D, etc while in bed is possible....I do so lol

That should do :)
Isn't it really a 1.60 GHz Core i7 processor which promises to run up to 2.80 GHz?
Does look better than their previous X300 laptop. How does the GTS 250 compare to the 9800GTS in their previous models? I'm sure its just a rename.
Hope these gaming laptops can be upgraded to more powerful cards, maybe MXM or Expresscard.
When will laptops get Expresscard 2.0 for external GPUs?
"and not just a Blu-ray drive, but a Blu-ray burner as the standard optical drive."
woa slow down there tiger Toshiba. I know you want to look like you love BD and all, but let's not get too hasty lol
Now where are my 3D glasses at...
Having skimmed through the article, i can't find any mention of battery life, so with this spec, i'll just go ahead and assume it's somewhere in the region of 4 minutes
You don't get a quad core gaming laptop with blu-ray burner capabilities for "road tripping."
as you should with a premium desktop replacement machine.
This laptop seems to have a little bit of an identity crisis- why put powerful features like Core i7 and Blu-Ray burning in a "gaming laptop" without a GeForce 260M?
Or better yet, a GTX 280M. It's a freaking 18.4" machine... The Qosmio line almost always has unbalanced specs.
Blu-ray burner comes standard?!? Well, DVD-DL RW is now standard on cheapo computers; guess it's just a matter of time until these filter down too.
I'm guessing the price is around $2000
Detailed specifications and pricing for the Qosmio X500 Series will be available on October 13, 2009 at laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/Qosmio/X500
The Qosmio X500 Series will be available on October 22, 2009 at major retailers, e-tailers and direct from Toshiba on toshibadirect.com
The Tooshitty Quasimotto has a history of overheating, system board failure, hard drive failure topped with a outsourced warranty support through ServiceNet. The world's crappiest 'warranty specialist' -which should be the job of the manufacturer. Phone support sucks too.
I also found a video about it on YouTube, but I think it's the same video that was posted on their website on the link by yaksplat.

Graphics card is trash, this one spec pretty much negates it from being considered a true gaming laptop. With that high of a resolution, it should have had a better GPU to handle it.
Should be fine for any games out there right now. Crysis was last great PC Game and that game came out in '07. Hasn't been a truly great release since then.
well i can sort of add up the price for this thing.
18 inch screen, i7 2.8, GeForce GTS 250, 8GB RAM and Blu Ray
my guess is $1500-2000 U.S.
Nice, thank god it is not hot pink like the last one. I have 2 Toshiba laptops, one from '04 and one from '70, they are both working just fine.
My laptop is better. It's from '98. 2098 that is.
well i am happy with my g50 cant wait to see this one
Anybody knows where has the 4 Speakers + Subwoofer gone...?
Because I just can see 2 Speakers... :/
The Qosmio X500 will be available in the US on 13 October:
