It's like they aren't even trying anymore.
at least they got the name right...it converts your new psp into a 250 dollar frisbee
I used to think going UMD-less and incorporating an SSD drive was the way to go.
Now, not so much.
I think what i would have done, besides giving the PSP a second analog stick, is I'd have used mini DVD's as the media instead of UMD. Then you could place the disk in your computer and transfer the game data to the UMD. this way you'd always have the physical disk.
Apparently this peripheral/adapter makes it fly further when you toss it because you realized you just paid more for a product that does less.
PIRATES wins again
Why are they trying to make legit users life miserable?
people bought games and that's how you treat them? lol Sony.
Ripping your own games to ISO files is already possible with current PSP with custom firmware so hopefully PSPGO will get hacked or NO BUY
seriously... i thought this was a joke when i first saw it.
portable? go?
WTF?!
Really Sony? Maybe you should've thought of compatibility before you put a proprietary connector instead of a standard mini-USB on the PSPgo. This thing is the most ridiculous accessory ever. Oh yeah, that's the way to screw your own customers, forcing them to re-buy memory sticks and use this thing.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more hideous.
what the? im a sony fanboy but are they out of their mind?
Well done, the first step is admiting it :)
awesome
Really? Are we looking at the same thing?
*pause*
OHHH sarcasm...I see what you did there....
I haven't handled the psp-go yet....but wouldn't this take alot of the "go" out of it? Looks silly but more importantly, it looks bulky.
So... Does this thing cost more than buying a PSP Go compatible new accessory? I wouldn't be surprised.
So you say you want a PSP Go AND a discus huh? Well, sir, I have the product for you.
The only reason I would buy this is to see how far it would fly... Out my window.
And I live high up.
I understand companies want to make money off of accessories but this is not the way to do it. Plus isnt the PSPGo suppose to be lite and compact for even easier on the gaming? This attachment has the opposite affect and un... I cant even continue. I love the PLAYSTATION brand but this is shite!
Total FAIL!
And the GPS receiver is still useless! Unless you buy a Japanese title for it. Why won't they just make some nav software? They've got the hardware, and nothing to do with it. I'd buy the GPS and software if they made any..
They released Europe maps too. But the rest of the world got stiffed.
I admire how they've pushed the capabilities of a humble unit the way they have, but yeah, they could have made it worldwide. MapThis! is the only (homebrew) solution I know of that will use the thing, and it's a surprisingly excellent application, but you need to hack together some maps, and of course you need custom firmware to run it.
WTF? i like the previous generation
My eyes had to held back the information contained in the picture for as long as it could, to protect my brain from shock.
It's as if the designer's goals were something along the lines of:
"yes, we can make this far smaller and less obtrusive, but we need to keep the roundness consistent with the unit, we need to express this circle motif..."
The inelegant monstrosity is the result of that thinking. I would expect this accessory would be one of those where the Chinese non-Sony design would definitely be the preferred version.
Remotes and cables look OK.
But man, who designed this? Something tells me we'll never get a interview with the designer(s).
Yet another reason to stick with the downloading-and-UMDing (and cheaper) current model, if you ever needed one.
Wait, did I navigate to The Onion by accident? This is too bizarre to be real.
What is the CPU clock speed and is it faster than PSP-3000 in terms of RAM and CPU speed?
I'm a happy european Go!Explore user (altough eagerly waiting for updated maps), and I don't see how I'm going to manage to attach this disc thingie to my windshield. And even if I was able to attach it, I would be concerned about not being able to see the actual road behind this gigantic disc.
This lack of compatibility between versions is rather upsetting (I still have my PSP-1000 remote control collecting dust as it doesn't work with newer models...), but, personally, I would forgive Sony if they'd come up with a decent lineup of accessories making use of the newly implemented bluetooth capability.
XD*Just read the article, and the lols wouldn't stop coming out.* ^_^ Honestly, I can't figure out whether Sony is just evil or stupid (it could actually be both). Is Sony trying to be generous or are these bastards taking the piss with consumer again. They could have implemented accessory backwards compatibility in the unit from the get-go. Even though they went "this route," why is the converter so ugly, it really doesn't fit with the image Sony was pushing on the PSP GO.
Really, people are better off without a PSP Go, the benefits of the 2000/3000 outweigh those of the Go. If people stick with or buy the older PSPs, they aren't losing anything but Bluetooth and PSP mini support. And if anyone should be so daft as to purchase a PSP Go, just buy the new accessories already, you were already suckered into paying a "premium" (quoted from Sony) for something that isn't worth it's price tag (they would've bought the new accessories with anyone's say-so anyhow). Sony knows this, so I'm guessing they're counting on consumer ignorance to push sales for this converter.
By the way Engadget, please don't refer to the PSP 2000/3000 as "last-gen" when compared with the PSP Go, it's illogical, especially since this is the gaming industry. The PSP Go is not a successor to the PSP, that is the PSP2. The Go is nothing but a repackaged PSP with a added feature, Sony's version of the DSi if you will. I mean, you don't consider a 60GB PS3 "last-gen" compared to a 250GB PS3 Slim do you? No right? Okay then.
SONY, is definitely stupid. Every single breakout product they make fails because they either tried to use proprietary formats or because it was one key feature away from total WIN.
If I was on their design team, they'd be on top of the world because I'd make certain products with obvious flaws never made it past the design stage.
Peter R. sez:
"If people stick with or buy the older PSPs, they aren't losing anything but Bluetooth and PSP mini support."
-------
No, all games downloaded for PSP are identical for all PSPs, so even the "small download" PSP Minis will be for all PSPs.
I can only hope that Sony combine the best of the go and the original PSP line when they make the PSP2, which they really need to get one.
Sony's really shooting themselves in the foot with the go. They need to repurpose whoever's in the PSP hardware division and get in some new blood. Can the screen even open?
Ok Sony this joke has gone far enough. Now show us the real PSP.
It doesn't matter to the United States since none of those peripherals are even being sold here.
None of this matters for the US as none of the attachments have come out here.
Im wondering if the PSP Go Stereo Bluetooth Headset Receiver will be compatible with the PSP Socom/Skype Headset, from what Ive read it should be compatible with any 3.5mm headphones or headset so the Socom/Skype headset should be fine.
