Windows 7 coming to netbooks in all its myriad forms
It would seem that the humble netbook owner's Windows 7 options just keep improving as the grand new OS comes closer to release. After plans to limit netbooks to running three apps at a time were thankfully scrapped, Microsoft has now confirmed with us that it is going to allow OEMs to splash any version of Windows 7 they desire onto their Atom-powered miniature laptops. That's right, you can totally rock Windows 7 Ultimate and Aero visualizations on a machine that can handle neither. Joking aside, it's pleasing to see the Redmond brain trust steer clear of arbitrary limitations on customer choice.

I think they made a good call. Why limit netbooks to one os if it can run all the new ones?
Well, except for the fact that MS will makes less on netbooks, as they sell the os cheaper for them to keep the price down...
pretty nice of them actually.
My Asus 1000HA runs perfectly with Windows 7 RC with Aero turned on. Better than the copy of XP that came pre-installed, in fact.
What? I have installed Win7 Ultimate RC to 3 netbooks, all with plain old Atom and GMA950, and they all run aero just fine. In fact, without aero, Windows 7 feels completely different as a bunch of the UI improvements are not available without Aero.
Andrew Lazetera--
50 Win7 licenses? Sounds like a cottage industry there! Seriously,
if you have an "extra" and would like to throw one my way, please
feel free to let me know--am Win7 deprived right now. (And I'll remember you each time I boot up.)

Live by the sword....clearly these monopolistic business practices have worked out for Microsoft in the past and will in the future.
Pretty sure Ultimate/Pro makes the most sense for any system as the extra features available are just Microsoft enabling stuff built into the OS.
Even first gen Atom netbooks can run Aero just fine, there's no reason why it shouldn't be available on that hardware because it really does make Windows 7 significantly easier to use.
makes me wonder ,apple keep shouting about how ms is the devil etc,(with there prices and all that),just goes to show you people believe what is being shouted at them, look there is the devil when in fact person telling you that is the devil.,But anyways Yes windows 7 runs fine on mini desktop. atom with ion ,i also have a atom 270 in a netbook ,seems to have no problem with it at all,but ill be honest the ion does help a hell of a lot, which i hear is going to become standard on netbooks?
I'm just happy "myriad" was used correctly!
MS are so kind hearted to sell more complete versions of 7 to netbook makers at a fraction of retail cost. Hell, I bet MS will hardly make any money on it. That's how generous they are. Take that $Apple$
