Initially I was excited to see what Apple might offer, but the Microsoft Courier concept has stolen my heart. This whole 'will they won't they' nonsense is such a yawn.
I love Apple's products, but I am excited about the Microsoft Courier. The only problem is that currently its vaporware and the cost of the courier will be more than what most people will be willing to shell out. Just purely based on the fact that it is supposed to have two 7" capacitive touchscreens.
@iDavey "Many tech sites are more excited about the Courier concept than they are the Apple tablet." Really? Can we have some examples? (unbiased sites only please)
Google Results 1 - 10 of about 601,000 for "Microsoft Courier"
Google Results 1 - 10 of about 1,350,000 for "apple tablet"
You really seem to put a lot of stock in this Courier, according to your posts. You mention it in almost every one. Were you one of the ones saying how the Zune was going to kill the iPod a few years ago too? Stop pointing your finger at others for being blind fanboys please, thanks.
Wow. So number of articles...is what we're basing it on.
Let me dash your dreams a little.
How long ago was the courier even brought to light? How long ago was the tablet rumor brought to light?
Now look at that. Within just a few weeks...there's almost half as many articles as there is tablet ones. Yikes. While the tablet rumors have been out for months on end.
SO you just kind of proved yourself wrong and made yourself look silly. Anything else you'd like to do for me?
Gizmodo (the one who broke the story of the Courier) states they're more excited. Even Engadget, the Holy Grail of all that is Apple loving stated that they hold a tiny bit more interest in the Courier.
@skeezle: LOL. About 1/2 of those sites aren't even legit sites they are just sites that are promoting there own things but use the apple tablet keyword.
With MS we got an actual video demo'ing what the Courier looks like and what it's supposed to do and how it functions, and even a video of an early prototype!
With the Apple tablet we have a vague "duh" inducing patent drawing, recycled speculation, vague rumors, photoshop mock-ups and fanboy flapping.
Right. At least the Courier has been said to be in late prototype testing.
I just place the Courier above the Tablet simply because it exceeds the rumored functions of it. It offers multitouch, GPS, stylus input, camera, WiFi, and the biggest selling point...portable enough to fold up and carry like a book (since I will be in a school).
The Tablet is looking more and more like just another line in the Touch family. No difference, just bigger screen. I mean...for all that, I might as well get a iPhone/Touch and output it to a tv. All the functions of the Tablet, more than half the price most likely.
As stated, I can understand sticking to a tried and true success...but when do you stop beating the dead horse and bring in a new one? =\
@iDavey: Maybe you should wait until there are actual facts on the Apple Tablet before you pass it off as "nothing new" The Courier looks like a very cool concept, but the thing about a concept is that it is only a concept. If it comes to market in the next year just like the concept video then that will be awesome, I have no idea how they will keep costs down though as it will need some decent hardware inside, not to mention a rugged case design and the two seven-inch capacitive screens.
All I'm trying to say is to just wait until there are facts and not just some websites speculation from a 'trusted source' which I bet is just their declining Adsense revenues.
Agreed. Prior to the Courier, I might have actually bought the Apple tablet and promptly dumped Windows 7 on it. But the likely wimpy processor and "iPhone-OSX"? I just couldn't care less. Why would I want a device this large that isn't a real computer? I've never once looked at my cellphone and thought "You know what this needs? A 10" screen and more locked-down OS than it already has".
On the plus side, you can bet it'll be "really thin", even if the thing ends up being an extra two inches diagonally to accomplish it.
HP's Jon Rubenstein told us that his company wanted to veer in a new direction, and veer it surely did -- the HP Veer 4G will arguably be the smallest fully-functional smartphone on the market when it goes on sale May 15th.

If anything Microsoft does "steals your heart" you are a freaking LOSER.
macjonny.
You're a freaking loser anyway. You pathetic subhuman.
Wow...someone is upset today.
Macjonny...is the reality of Apple actually being behind Microsoft in terms of anxiousness hurting you so? LOL.
Many tech sites are more excited about the Courier concept than they are the Apple tablet.
My best guess being as I said, this is NOTHING new. It's an iPhone/Touch with an oversized screen. And that's exactly ho they're going to sell it.
You can get the iPhone Plus (with 3G) or the iPod Touch Plus (without 3G)

So what are you trying to say sir? What indeed?
@Skeezle
To be fair, an Apple Tablet has been rumored for like 10 years now.
@skeezle: LOL. About 1/2 of those sites aren't even legit sites they are just sites that are promoting there own things but use the apple tablet keyword.
So those results mean nothing.
Another note:
I mention the Courier in contrast because, I dont know...
Maybe it's the only other tablet in rumor haven that is going against the Apple Tablet. C'mon...you can't be that dense can you.
But then I forget that most of the posters on here are like literally half my age...and I'm only 22. =|

I *heart* iDavey (in a totally plutonic, totally manly way) for this:
