GoPro releases first footage from 1080p HD Hero Wide helmet cam
GoPro announced its 1080p HD Hero Wide helmet cam earlier this year, back when people were jumping off of high things and speeding around other things whilst wearing helmets. Now the summer adventure season is drawing to a close, the winter one is starting to develop, and the company has released a series of high-def, high-adrenaline clips to show what that camera can do -- most filmed when the days were still long and the sun still high. Sadly the videos are not embeddable, but click on that read link for your morning dose of speed. The company has also released a good bit of information about the cam, that it's 30fps at the full 1080p or an optional 60fps mode at 720p. 720p footage is recorded at a particularly wide 170 degrees, while 1080p footage is slightly less wide (though still rather broad) 127. Also, the company promises that the microphone will actually be usable at speed, a rarity in this sort of device. It's all slated to ship this fall, and we look forward to putting one through its paces then.

Wow....thats almost as exciting as a laptop release with Windows 7. We're in for a real treat of a news-day.
Thanks for the link, I actually found it very interesting. The Mountain Bike video is stunning!
Yeah that looked pretty awesome
Looks awsome. Would love to see some footage from a motorcycle on a race track.
I might have to upgrade my Go Pro Motorsports Hero Wide to this... the audio on that is awful for autox.
First off, is that video really 4:3? Or is that just the flash that's posted. Lots of motion blur, and on the formula car one, appears to have rolling shutter problems (at that speed maybe the 60i is better).
Have you seen the actual size of these things? TINY. I think for it's size and portability, a couple things can be forgiven.
If the exchange rate to the pound is good when this comes out, i'll be getting one for skiing and gliding, really impressed with the results on the site. Although i hope it is 16:9...
Just checked the specs, 1920 x 1080. Good stuff!
Also, with a depth rating of 60m, this ought to be good for SCUBA aswell (although you'd need to add lighting to get good results at anything less than perfect visability or deeper than 15m)
I have the Motorsports Wide one for my sportbikes at the track. It works out well - except the audio is pretty much useless. I'm definitely looking forward to the HD version.
The new GoPro HD series is available for pre-order over at Helmet Camera Central - http://helmetcameracentral.com - Production capabilities between now and Xmas are somewhat limited.
Thx / Chadical
looks sweet i might get one of these for a friend :D
I can't justify buying one but did just spend the last 30 minutes watching the footage. Looks really good, could imagine F1 implementing them instead of the horrible cameras they use now.
F1 just upgraded their on-board camera's to HD in the last 3 races. Video and Audio is MUCH better now....
Two things:
1) What is the name of the song in the base jumping video because it is very catchy.
2) More importantly, how in the world are they eliminating almost all wind noise in those videos? If this is how this unit performs out of the box, I will be picking one up to accompany my car club on the many drives we take.
