Android 1.6 getting pushed to G1s starting tonight, myTouch 3Gs in a day?
This is totally out of left field, but TmoNews (which tends to have a pretty solid track record when it comes to all things T-Mobile) is claiming that "select" G1s will be receiving Android 1.6 "Donut" starting... well, right about now. So much for any lingering worries that the first retail Android device was being left high and dry, eh? If everything goes well, the rumor goes on to say that myTouch 3Gs would be getting their own over-the-air upgrade in about 24 hours -- and like the 1.5 update before it, it'd likely be a staggered rollout to make sure that T-Mobile doesn't brick a bazillion phones in one fell swoop. Any G1 owners out there seeing anything yet? This sounds awfully quick, especially considering that the Dev Phone 1 just took delivery of 1.6 a handful of hours ago -- but hey, if it's true, we like T-Mobile's hustle.

...there is a lot of icing on that donut...
...^[metaphor]^...
Read the article. Only "select G1s" get Dunkin Donut. WTF?
Who are the lucky so called "select G1s"?
anyone who uses T-Mobile Account (the app) and upgraded may have noticed that is states in the update that it NOW supports Android 1.6 Donut. A sure sign an update is coming very soonishly.
SOONISHLY! :)
Didn't I read somewhere on Engadget that TMO said that the G1 would not get any patches past 1.5? Wonder what changed their mind.
@xtole
you saw that over at Engadget Mobile. But that story was quoting an Android developer that said Donut "may not fit" on the G1 (this was also when Donut was thought to be 2.0 not 1.6). T-Mobile clarified that story (and there was an update) saying that this wasn't true and that the G1 would get the update.
Mmmm... Donut... *slobber*

Well CyanogenMOD users have been rocking 1.6 on 4.1.11.1 for weeks now. Good times. I wonder if the official release has anything new that's not included in CM.
like stability?
The 4.1.11.1 is pretty stable, but
I gotta admit, it could be better at that, so let's hope so :)
I wonder how long it will take for Donut to get around to the Archos 5 Android tablet....
I'll be sticking with Cyanogen as long as possible.
Mmmmm...
Forbidden Donut!
That was the greatest Simpson's episode ever.
I just couldn't stop laughing when hell was running out of doughnuts...
what COMPELLING feature android offer that this doesnt? I know google fanboys think the google sticker on the back of those shitty phones is a feature, but it isnt. neither are the crappy apps it has, nor is the stupid codenames for each update. "omg luolz cupcake guys@! omg the cupcake update was revolutionary, it added ummm, cupcake. look im namedropping the word cupcake multiple times to look like im an android expert!!!!"
Oh well I'm going to issue a cease and desist letter! Hold on while I type it
* Do not let google users have roms with google apps because its against google policy* there, much better.
Any news on Rogers?
Nothing yet with a manual upgrade check on my G1.... although the 1.5 update showed up at about 1AM...
Im confused I thought donut was too large to fit on the G1 small ROM???
Ironically the Donut update is 10mb smaller then the cupcake update coming in at 60mb, so there is plenty of room, or so Android and Me claims.
I think that was 2.0
The picture reminds me of kyle's little brother ike.
Hmmm. Just got a notification on my G1 that the T-Mobile "My Account" app has an update. "Release Notes: V2.0.3 - Supports 1.6(Donut)."
mmmm full with donut now, want an eclair now and maybe some flan to wash it down yummy!!!
never ending hunger, i feel like majin buu
I just received an over-the-air update from T-Mobile for my G1 (HTC Dream) with Android 1.6 included …
I wonder which is faster, CM, or the official release...
I ditched CyanogenMod at 4.1.11.1 because I was sick of stability issues and went back to JF 1.5.1. Now is definately need 2 unroot tomorrow and get up on this new jazz.
the official T mobile ROM is available, with root, on XDA.
no offense but the version u speak of was experiential not stable its your own fault for installing it a testers version, it was even noted as not stable and a link to an earlier stable version was under it don't complain if u don't read the fine bold print
I have 0 stability issues, something must be wrong with yours
Does anyone have any idea when this'll start happening in the UK?
What about not Tmob customers in Europe?
O collective knowledge of engadget:
I'm looking at getting a HTC hero, but do you think updates to the underlying android system (e.g. doughnut) will trickle through to the hero's sense UI at any point?
UK vodafone? gimme gimme gimme!!!
So the Sprint Hero will come packaged with 1.6 then, right?
And the speedy ROM, I hope.
Nothing yet. Some apps did upgrade to support Donut, though, but nothing in manual updates.
As long as Android exists only on T-Mobile, it doesn't exist.
Huh? Is this like if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?
Gah....damn it. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
I'm borrowing a G1 from a friend but it has no cell service--just checking it out and using WiFi to test out the Android platform. What's the best way for me to get this update?
Officially announced on the forums: http://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/?category.id=Android
Eagerly awaiting my Donut update. Nothing yet.

Just got it today
Its amazing!
