WiFi-enabled bathroom scale slides into USA, overweight Yanks sluggishly back away
Oh sure, we Americans love our fast food. And we love our technology. But do we really love the latter? Withings has just announced that the world's first WiFi-enabled bathroom scale has made its way into the States after a few months abroad, and we have to say, this could change everything. When pouncing upon it, the scale automatically records the user's body weight, lean / fat mass and calculated body mass index (BMI) to his or her secure webpage, and if you're more the iPhone type, it can beam data to a Withings iPhone app as well. It's available now for $159, but you can certainly wait 'til your latest diet has had some sort of effect before bringing one home. A delightful demonstration video is waiting for you just past the break.

congratulations, sir. you have just developed the first effective use of an iPhone
I feel like doing that to my 3GS sometimes, and least I'd get to look at a cracked screen instead of one with a big dust particle smack dab in the middle.
I need onw
I don't need a website to tell me I'm fat, I know I'm fat.
the Subway thing not work out?
It's only a matter of time until someone figures out how to make this thing tweet your weight every time you step on it.
sounded dumb, but after watching the video, This thing looks awesome
I like, but needs improvement.
How about a two way connection, from computer back to scale. When it senses you've been getting lighter, it inject a shot of pure insulin in your heel, right in your bloodstream. If you've added some, you'll receive an electric shock.
Then you're ready for some serious fat-ass whooping classic conditioning.
I think it's a great idea. I have personally found that the true secret to weight loss is to weigh yourself every day and keep a chart of your progress. Without making any other drastic changes in your life, just being aware of your daily weight fluctuations will promote a healthy lifestyle significantly better than any fad diet around.
I've been using Wii Fit since it came out (so, around two years now) and I've lost 75 pounds. I haven't done any of the goofy workout stuff since a week after it came out, but I still fire it up every single morning and log my weight, which the game puts into a nice little line plot graph for me. This thing is cheaper than Wii Fit if you don't already have a system, and it should achieve roughly the same goal.
Great idea... But how the heck do you input the WEP key or WPA password?!? What if the SID is hidden?
Give me a scale with bluetooth or wifi, but not for the reasons implied in this one. I want a 6-oz travel scale that I can take with me on my 35 trips/year that will talk to my laptop. I don't need any display whatsoever. Just give me super-light weight, accuracy (+/- .1lb/kg) and I'll be happy as a clam
Does it upload your status to Facebook? That would help you loose weight! LOL
