Acer's Aspire Timeline 1810T gets the tablet treatment, morphs into 1820P
Like Acer's Aspire 11.6-inch, 1.4GHz ULV Timeline 1810T (aka the 1410) but wish that T stood for Tablet? It's your lucky day, sailor, as Acer has created the 1820P. No, we don't know what the P stands for, but this new model shares the internals of the 1810T/1410, adding a pivoting (maybe that's it) screen and room for a stylus in there somewhere. Reports are that everything else is the same, other than what we presume will be a price bump, and what we know is a 300g weight increase. You've been hitting the gym; you can handle it.

I really love how more and more convertibles appear on the market. Best of two worlds imho...
Agreed. I've been waiting for affordable tablets like these to show up (with intel chips, AMD seems a bit behind on mobile) but I'm gonna wait and see how that Microsoft courier thingie turns out :)
I agree. I've said in the past that I wouldn't buy a netbook until it filled more than one niche. I'd want it to be (1) a convertible tablet and (2) powered by an ION or comparable chipset. High def hulu on the go plus multitouch, etc.
Agreed 100%! I really wanted tablet functionality in my current laptop but wasn't willing to shell out the $1500 for the Toshiba, or take my chances with the poorly-reviewed HP tz2whatever, both of which would have involved considerable compromises in battery life, which was also really important for me. I'm excited about these new machines hitting the market and hope that in one to one-and-a-half years there'll a selection of them to choose from.
I just wish they would release the standard 1810 in the UK already.
Sure a convertible tablet is a cool idea but given they haven't even got the standard netbook/mini-laptop/ultra-portable [delete as appropriate] version on sale yet, I don't hold out much hope of seeing this any time soon...
Nice,
I think the "P" stands for Pivot... But its only me...
BTW, it has multi touch too. Win 7+multi touch = greatness

i don't think it's fast enough to run any meaningful tablet apps. the touch will come in handy, though.
Why wouldn't it be? What are "meaningful tablet apps" in your opinion?
Would like clarification on that too
If you mean photoshop and the like... yeah, i guess it's not the best machine for that but, then again, if you're buying this for that sort of work you're not a very bright consumer.
For everything else it should be more than enough. I'd gladly buy this for school (Onenote and even just Journal are wonderful), depending on its battery life... but I'm guessing it's pretty good, given the specifications.
P for Pen input?
Would rather see them make a tablet out of the dual core version.
Here is the dual core version:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/gateways-windows-7-boasting-ec18t-tablet-images-specs-leak-ont/
It's rather obvious that the P stands for P-P-P Powerful Netbook.
Except its not a netbook since it runs Core 2 Duo processors.
Jayayess1190 - why, pray tell can't a netbook have a dual core cpu?
More importantly, this machine is running a Core 2 Solo, NOT a Core 2 Duo.
The term "netbook" is presently a rather loose classification of machines, usually centered around a smaller form factor. It can include a variety of hardware - including.Core 2 Duo processors.
So, in the future, p-p-please leave the thinking to the qualified p-p-professionals.
However having a dual core anything means it falls out of the Intel and Microsoft definitions.
Both Microsoft and Intel can limit their own definitions of the term "netbook" as much as they desire with regard to hardware/licensing pricing, but they fortunately do not have absolute claim over the industry usage of the term.
P for PEW PEW PEW!
Was going to buy a regular 1410, but now I think I'm gonna wait for this one to come out. If they can hit the $400-450 price point, I'm sold. Kinda excited about the prospect of using OneNote on this for my classes.
I bought a Latitude XT, and while it cost me a chunk, 4 point multi touch capacitive screen and a stylus (N-trig digitizer) it was worth it.
I definitely hope to see more and more low cost options enter the market, as it will eventually drive the cost of the higher end hardware to a more consumer level.
Although I will admit it is cool when I'm walking around the office having people looking at me and asking me what that cool thing I'm holding is.. These things really are the best of both worlds.
