Acer issues recall for some Aspire laptops
Acer's issued a voluntary recall for some of its Aspire laptops -- all of which were manufactured before September 15th of this year. It seems that some of them are experiencing an overheat of the microphone cable after "repeated" and "extreme" pressure is applied to the left palm rest. The affected models include the AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. Acer's set up a website where you can enter the serial number of your device to see if yours might be one of the affected.

Overheating Mic cable if pressure is applied on the left palm rest? Shouldn't the mics be near the cam on top of the screen? And how does a microphone cable overheat?
The mic still has to connect to the motherboard so how. :)
It's indeed a weird problem for a product recall.
Probably a short.
How bout Dell issuing an Re-Call for my laptop battery issues....it'll never happen just hoping though...
A Dell laptop will only work for as long as the warranty lasts for.
Funny... this one's warranty expired more than a year ago and it's still working.
You better knock on wood
I think this is the first time I've ever seen a laptop recall. Mostly it's the battery or power cord.
Most of the time people just wait for their laptops to self-destruct and then go back to Best Buy (if you got it there) and get a brand new version for no cost out of pocket. Or at least that is what I would (will) do...
You obviously haven't bought an HP laptop...
Does anyone here actually expect anything less?? I mean Acer is a horrid computer manufacturer as it is.
Other than this, my 3810t has treated me well.
@rawrman
i would have agreed with you a few years ago, but i recently also bought a 3810 and it's been rock solid for me so far. much much better than the various dells and hp's i've had in the past 5 years
It used to be about...what, 7 years ago? And once upon a time Apple recommended dropping their computers (Apple III) to make them work.
My abused yet solid 4 year old Acer is a strong testament against your lies.
My acer X233H monitor, acer laptop and projector are superb, not had a single problem with any of them and best of all they're dirt cheap.
Yes, i totally agree. Acer blows. The last laptop i touched from them was a Travelmate which was so horrendous i vowed to never touch Acer laptops again and a couple of months ago one of their sucky LCD's crapped out on me.
Imagine if this was apple.
(:
I think we'd see quite a bit more posts.
And rightfully so. People need to believe that they haven't been ripped off.
My acer is prone to over heating. But thats a year of dust buildup in the poorly manufactured cooling system. I just gotta open her up and clan the fan and grate.
Even fans and gates have clans now?
Mine is affected, hopefully my retailer will just swap it for a Toshiba L500-11V. The 8 hours battery life wears off when you can barely encode an MP3 into a different format.
I've had a 4810TZ for about a month now I absolutely love it =P...
yeah....i got one as a gift and everything is great except the processor sucks!!! does anybody know how or what i should i upgrade it too.
ps. i want to be able to play crisis on the highest setting
I sincerely hope you are joking rinum009 or just incredibly stupid.
uhh yeah i kinda am jack ass
you dont have a answer to my question or a rational objection then fuck off
Mine is affected. Gota send it in.:(
Absolutely love this laptop. With Win7 this would of been even more beast.
I'm in the same boat. I really do like my 3810T, and it's funny that it's a heat issue because this is the coolest running laptop I've ever used (Mine has the solid state drive).
Well I have a 3810T and it's been great but like my previous Dell laptop has had a problem with the LED backlit display. Also, the HD was a little messed up but I put an SSD in it so it didn't matter.
I just got my 3810T and am really impressed by its battery and quickness...not to mention how small and light it is. I just switched to it from a mac so this news is a little discouraging but, luckily I have noticed no overheating...it actually runs cooler and for the most part quieter than my Macbook Pro. Mine is affected by the recall, but I kinda need my computer for school so not sure whether I should send it in or hope im just lucky with it?
I just went through the recall form, and the impression I got was that someone would actually come to my house, so hopefully that means a quick turnaround.
I did it too, but I said the option of sending it away would not work so apparently somebody will email me in a day or two and consult me. The other problem I've had is trying to get the upgrade to Windows 7. The website keeps saying my serial number is invalid so I called Acer and they said they were having technical problems, but to keep trying. So far I'm not really impressed, but I will give 'em the benefit of the doubt for now.
What the heck does this have to do with the Acer?
Well, they've already got my 3810T.
My SSD clonked out after approximately 3 days of use (not an uncommon problem judging by the Newegg.com reviews). I sent it in to be repaired and haven't seen or heard anything in 34 days.
I finally broke down and called to see what was going on and they said they were "waiting on a part" that could come in anywhere from 1-4 weeks.
Awesome! I hope they just go ahead and fix this mic issue while they have it cause I am selling mine when - if - I ever get it back.
I'm so glad Acer are getting this recall done! After getting my laptop sent from retailer (Comet) to Acer, for Acer to say it was completely fine, i was persistent there was still a problem. My laptop crashed after using it from a pathetic 20 minutes to around 6 hours use, and overheating was a problem also. It means i knew i wasn't just complaining over nothing! I just hope this problem does not occur in any of the 14inch or 15inch models, and also i can't wait to install the new Windows 7 OS on it :D
Hi,
I bought the Acer 3410 recently. Between buying it online (BuyitDirect) and delivery I read about the recall. Tried to ascertain from both Acer and Buyitdirect that my new model would not be effected. This apparently was impossible. Found out it was indeed effected by this problem. Acer refuses to replace the model but wants me to send my brand new laptop in for repair, even before it could be used. I find this absolutely rediculous. Acer recommends I sort it out with the re-seller, saying there is nothing they can do. But they knew that the models being sold were faulty, so why didn't they recall the models from their resellers and so not dump the problem on us.
I have just found out about the recall, I have a 3810T which I bought through Dabbs in UK. The machine has worked really well up untill this weekend when I started using a Line 6 UX1 USB guitar interface which worked well but I did smell a faint smell of burning which I put down to the little lady playing with the toaster in the kitchen...but later on with the usb interface unplugged I tried to play a movie there was no sound from either the speakers or headphones. I have checked the default sound source and outputs are correct, drivers are ok, all vols are ok and showing a signal.....I wonder if the issue they say is only a microphone issue could be more serious.
As I live in France but bought it in UK I am still waiting for a response from the recall centre. I hope they can fix it quick and locally.
Don't buy Acer. If you are a fan of Taiwan products, get Asus instead.
Asus at list has good engineer/design people there vs. Acer all copies with already in market product by deconstruction.
