Again, you would rather it ran Android because...? Now there seems to be a lot of blind love for Android even though, really, it hasn't proven to be above and beyond the competition at all. We've reached a saturation point where the OSes all function similarly enough and most importantly, allows us to do what a "phone" is supposed to do - make phone calls and texting.
For the record, I like Android but no more than the iPhone OS, WebOS or WinMo. I choose my phones based on the hardware now because we've finally reached the stage where the hardware has caught up to the performance requirements of the OSes.
Unfortunately, the only Android devices I like are the Cliq and the X3 but I definitely like the Toshiba K01 and HTC HD2 more.
I just wish people would stop the worship for a particular OS and it's especially annoying here on Engadget where you can't go without someone commenting, "gee...if only it ran such and such...". Enough is enough. Quit it already and move on.

Except they really don't, and frankly if you're getting little enough functionality out of your phone that it seems that way to you, spending this kind of money on a phone is more or less a waste.
Android has still a long way to go before it's as functional as WinMo. The only area where it trumps the latter is in the UI front, which HTC has taken care of nicely.
The whole "I wish it ran Android" thing is just plain stupid. It's a decent OS, but it's nowhere as desirable as some people make it out to be.
OK, I can see I've arrived in a hornet's nest of Winmo fanboys, so I'll just leave you all with your tiny little 'OK' buttons.
Fair comment with HTC Sense on the Hero, the bog standard Android interface definitely needs updating. Hell, even the iPhone interface looks like it needs a lick of paint.
However, Windows Mobile is notoriously not finger friendly, read any review of 6.5 (or just use it!) and you can see that. This may be slightly better with this device, but only because it has such a gargantuan screen. (Which I am ever so slightly in love with!)
My main point is that no-one should chastise anyone else because they prefer a different phone OS to any other. I don't berate you for liking Winmo... I would just rather use Android, tis all.
Haha, sorry man; I'm not a regular WinMo user. Rather, I use S60.
Your original point of contention was that WinMo has a terrible UI. I don't deny this and this is exactly what HTC has successfully fixed. There are no more tiny OK buttons and this is not applicable to just the HD2. Even an old X1 with a cooked Manila-ROM is eons more finger friendly than the bone-stock WinMo UI. That tackled, there's very little to find fault with WinMo (6.5 is not laggy anymore, Skyfire delivers full flash, etc.) HTC is aiming for a highly productive device with this and its possibilities are just not achievable with the current state of Android. That's all I'm saying.
If you want similar specs on an Android device, you better wait for the HTC Dragon, which supposedly runs Android 2.0. And this is where the OS hopefully comes of age.
Engadget is commenting on the stock WinMo UI. HTC has its own connection manager that bypasses most stock WinMo screens, except for maybe the ones you access once in a bluemoon.
Even so, I'd advice you to take a look at XDA-developers, where they have released some ROMs based on a beta version of WinMo (Some speculate that this is a future update) that has the start button, OK button and most menu commands at the bottom of the screen. Much bigger than the default ones.
Yeah I have seen that actually, but one of the reasons I ditched Winmo in the first place, is that I kept flashing my device every five minutes for new features / bugfixes / etc etc.
I know that's the reason a lot of people like Winmo, but I got a bit carried away and kept flashing my Touch HD a couple of times a day at one point, and it still didn't even play music properly... which was cack.
You know, the small ok and "x" buttons on the screen aren't really a problem at all. It's not like you have to get the stylus out and tap them exactly in the centre. A jab with your thumb anywhere in that area works just as well...
Damn...can the man just want Android on it without you ignoramuses going off like a bunch of underage kids? You all are acting just like the person you're trying to paint him as. His original post said nothing bad about Windows...it just said he wanted Android.
Grow up and learn comprehension and understanding before going off on one of your kiddy tirades.
But I do agree. I personally like the widgets, notifications, constant sync, etc. of Android. So the hardware with my preferred software would make this a 100% buy for me.
I can't wait for them to make a high-powered Android device like this. I'm glad WinMo is still getting these wonderful devices. Love it!
It's got nothing to do with being an Ignoramus. Android is not at a point where it can fully utilize what the handset offers. That's all. In the future it will, but as of now; the platform is too raw.
Not everyone needs fanboi logic to counter somebody else's opinion.
While its tablet world topping pixel density, Tegra 2 silicon, and fresh to death OS certainly sound awesome, we had to get our grubby mitts on one to see if it's as good as its spec sheet would have us believe.

best Borat voice - "it's nice! I like!"
Would rather it ran Android though.
Dual booting andriod and windows mobile would be pretty cool so you get best of both OSes/

Jeez, just because I prefer Android over Winmo doesn't make it "stupid" or "blind love". It's just my opinion, my own personal taste.
Winmo sucks, and has done for ages, why do you think HTC have gone to such lengths to hide it?
They did a pretty good job of hiding Android too (ref: Hero; HTC the), so what's your excuse now? ;)

Really?

Seems Engadget disagree - plenty of little crosses and 'OK' buttons in their review.
I'm not even a huge Android fan tbh, I still currently prefer the iPhone (mainly for the great video capture, iTunes integration and app store).
Just that I dislike Winmo, and it seems a shame to have this great hardware running only Winmo.
Still, I'll play with it when it's out I'm sure, and give it a fresh pair of eyes :)

Thanks dude :)
Nothing against Winmo - horses for courses, just that I prefer Android out of the two.
I see there are obviously a few Winmo fanboys in the house, being as my comment was marked down.
hey-ho!
Even if this device doesn't eventually get android, I'm sure HTC will bring out something just as kick ass very soon.
Dpes make you wonder what Apple's next move is going to be though doesn't it?
Even the iPhone 3Gs is starting to look a bit out of date next to this device!
