VUDU throwing Rotten Tomatoes reviews on every movie it sells

What you get from playing Tetris
A new study published by the big thinkers at Mind Research Network has found that "practicing Tetris" can improve brain efficiency and lead to a thicker cortex.

Now who's gonna stumble in late at night and think it is a great idea to watch Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever?
Well this would be nice if I actually cared about the reviews on RottenTomatoes......
Some of the write-ups are informational, but I usually make up my own mind if I will like a movie or not.
Their numbers are usually way off.
And Zack....you are supposed to take a shower to get rid of that.
Agreed. One reviewer saying the movie was the best film ever is offset equally by a reviewer saying the movie was just below recommendation level. By the same token, if every reviewer says a movie is barely worth recommending, the movie gets 100%, even if the movie is only 51% good.
I suppose it's still better than nothing when trying to pick what movie to watch on a streaming service, but it's not the end-all, be-all of movie reviews that it's made out to be.
@Ctrlburn
Although that may seem like the case, RT actually allows users to pick 1-100% in intervals of 10%. Basically an 1 to 10 scale. From there, if it is above 50%, the movie is deemed "fresh" or vis-versa. On the site however, it does show the actual percentages and not just the fresh or rotten image. I happen to like the site a lot and find its percentages very accurate to my tastes. You should give it a try before bashing it.
surprisingly still better than a first post.
We didn't want to know what you ate for breakfast today....kay
Downranked.
An imdb score would have been much much more useful, it's a way better measure of a film than RT's scores (+ larger number of votes).
It depends on who the viewer is. I personaly see IMDB's rating system too retarded and blind, and thanks to Rotten Tomatoes I now enjoy watching many movies of which I never though I'd like due to the stupid ratings from IMDB and other kid-formed forums; it's like 95% of the movies on IMDB are in the 7 - 8 range!
Having said that, I have an IMDB Pro account and I love the website only when it comes to numbers and details of each and every movie.
IMDB is like Yelp! restaurant reviews. Rotten Tomatoes is more like Zagat reviews. The fact that a real person has to look at the data and make some value judgments about what the data says makes all the difference in the world. You get enough 15-year old boys who think boobs, explosions and fast cars make a good movie and you can game the system. Curation makes all the difference in the reliability of crowdsourcing.
Meh. Film critics. Anything without Meryl Streep in it will give them a yawn.
I'm not sure what the deal is with the nay-sayers here. I find RottenTomatoes.com THE definitive source for movie reviews on the internet, and I always check them before renting to going to a movie (plus "The Rotten Tomatoes Show" is one of the best/funniest video podcasts on the internet).
They're also the source I use when trying to convince my wife that "Aliens" is an excellent movie!
Anyhoo, I'm partial to Apple TV, but I think this is a fantastic idea on the part of Vudu! I wish the feature would make its way over to my own Apple set top box!
A correction to the title:
By "sell" you mean "license". Let's not fool ourselves into thinking otherwise.
Metacritic FTW.
now when will Vudu deliver on promises of playing local media from ANY of the boxes that run their software?
I don't wanna know your lunch either!
tomatometer is not an extremely useful rating system. it shows the percentage of reviewers who *liked* a movie, not the average degree to which reviewers liked a movie. if 9/10 reviewers gave a movie 5/5 stars, while one gave it 2/5, and 10/10 reviewers gave another movie 3/5 stars, the latter will have a higher tomatometer.
