CE-Oh no he didn't! Part LXIV: Microsoft's Greenberg says Xbox will outsell PS3 for 'entire generation'
Didn't think Microsoft exec Aaron Greenberg could top himself after saying that Hulu on 360 was like "asking out a really hot chick on a date?" Well, think again, 'cause Greenberg recently sat down with GameInformer for a fairly wide ranging interview, and he took the opportunity to toss a few bombs in Sony's direction. The biggest of those is that he's "confident" that the Xbox 360 will "not only outsell PS3 for the full calendar year, but for this entire generation" -- adding that it's "similar to a game of baseball, it is not about just winning one inning, but instead being able to win the game by consistently delivering across all nine innings." Greenberg also went on to say that Sony's expected good showing in the September sales numbers is merely a "short term bump," and that "it is not a real concern to us." Hit up the link below for the complete interview, which also includes talk of the Zune HD, Xbox Live, and Microsoft's plans for the holiday season.[Via PC World]

And trust me, this guy knows about asking hot chicks out on dates...
Well, with a wallet like his... even if he had the most hideous face, weighted 500lbs, no limbs, saliva dripping off his mouth and he constantly farted... He still would have dated more hot chicks than anyone in three lives in a row.
Of course it will outsell the PS3, I mean damn I always love watching Hd Dvd's, its so much better than Blue Ray.
@derrik
i buy a gaming system to play games. not to watch movies. not to have a ghetto version of the wii remote that resembles your father's dildo.
but to play games.
> "He still would have dated more hot chicks than anyone".
Geeks could learn from this guy. Notice the strategic use of a goatee to hide the double chin, and the slightly cheeky look hinting at wild pleasures in the bedroom no doubt involving a connoisseur's selection of fully charged gaming peripherals. Oh yes, he knows how to make the ladies squeal.
@Light Speed
Oh really? Well, do me a favor then. Next time you power up your Xbox., don't go on facebook, netflix or twitter, don't talk to anyone on Xbox Live, delete your avatar, delete all the music and movies from your hard drive and just sit there and play games, alright?
Welcome to the twenty first century. Single-purpose devices are a thing of the past.
Xbox Rulez!!!!
I cant find any reason why people wanna buy the shitty console PS3 over 360.
bluesky: +1
"...consistently delivering across all nine innings..."
yeah, i know, it's like dating with 9 hot chicks now rite?
@loocas
but what's the point? they are screwing another dude while you feed them (both probably) and years later, she takes half your money and goes to live with the guy that cleaned your pool. Of course, there's another hottie waiting to split your half. And your kids, are really the poolboy's kids.
BULLSH1T!!! SONY ROCKS
of course it will outsell.... the idiot Xbox fanboys will buy new ones after theirs RROD..... Perfect way to keep selling is to keep breaking
Well hes not lying is he?
Are you posting are you?
I don't know what you're talking about do I?
That's One Ugly Bastard.
But he has girth where is counts for a lot of women...
...in his wallet ;)
and length in his forehead
...and a warehouse full of xboxes!!!
He keeps his penis in his wallet?
Well of course it will when you consider all the Arcades/Elites RROD sufferers go buy.
You may have misssed it, but the RRoD is covered by an extended warranty. I'd have much prefered if my box hadn't RRoD'ed but getting it repaired for free from MS was painless. The only reason I would consider buying another 360 isn't because I needed to replace a broken one, but because the 250 gig drive in the Modern Warfare package is a hell of a lot more appealing than the gimpy 20 gig drive I have now (granted if they went the Sony route of user replaceable that would be a non-issue - what the hell is wrong with the world when sony is actually *not* the propriatary one).
But people are actually buying new ones instead of sending them in sometimes... it's pretty sad...
That would include me. My launch day console died so I went out and bought an Elite.
I sold the broken one for parts on eBay and upgraded to HDMI, 120gb, and a color that matched my TV, entertainment center, and speakers. It was completely worth it.
Many people's XBoxs fall out of warranty now...other people don't care to go through the long process and would either throw down a few bucks for the Arcade and put their HD on it, or take the chance to go big with the Elite. If my 360 RRODs again I'm going for an Elite.
They must be including all the 360s that RRoD. I just got my 2nd RROD'd.
What surprises me is the fact that a lot of people bought more than one console after there broke down. Nothing should get that many chances of failing you, besides the Gov.
@monkey
Nobody buys another 360 when the RRoD. Microsoft has a 3 year warranty for this specific problem, You ship it in for free and they send you a new one for free in just the time it takes to get from your home to Washington.
Yeah, when as many of them have been sent back as they have done I wonder if outselling the PS3 in number of shipments will really mean anything. When you have to repair and resend a system back 54% of the time, it must really kill the profits off the system.
To all the people spouting the warranty excuse...Not all 360's are under warranty anymore. There are many individuals, like myself, whose 360's 3-year warranty expired. I even called them, 4 days after my warranty expired to renew it (I would have renewed sooner, but I totally forgot), and they refused to do it. They instead sent me a free copy of PGR4. *sigh*
Seriously, I think I'm just going to repair it myself when the damn thing breaks *again*. They had 4 chances from me to get it right, and they still send me old and used POS hardware revisions back from 2006 (my last console sent in Feb of 2009 came back as a Zephyr). There is no point in paying $150+ for a repair to receive yet another POS that will break in 8 months.
My nephew (21 years old) had his XBOX 360 go bad. It was replaced - and it too went bad. He was told that he has to pay to get it fixed - it's out of warranty. He has no money - he is an unemployed college student. He plans to buy a PS3 (with his gift money). My other nephew also has an XBOX that is defective; he now owns a PS3. The XBOX has some decent games, but the quality is unacceptable.
hey mikee,
I hate to breake it too you but whenever you send in your 360 for a RRoD the 3 years starts all over again. Just a little FYI for ya.
If you are handy with a razer blade and want to stick it to the man, you could buy a new xbox, and swap the innards of the new one with the broken one (using the razer blade to keep all warranty stickers intacts as well as transfer over the relevant serial stickers) and then return it to the store saying it was DOA. You can get a refund, or a replacement, either is a win.
Not that I have done or condone such a thing ;-)
@Gurg: I hate to break it to ya, but I still have to pay $150+ for my next repair, do I not? Thus, my original point is still valid: not all 360's are covered under warranty anymore and therefore the warranty excuse is a very weak one at best. If I'm going to spend $150+ for a repair in which I'm just going to receive another POS console back out, why not spend a little extra for a more reliable console with HDMI? I personally know several people who have done just that, and I don't think they should be counted twice for marketshare statistics.
I see no reason why I (or anybody else) should be responsible for repair fees for item that is defective by design and needs to be recalled, especially when I sent the item in for repairs more than twice at no fault of my own.
@gurg
I hate to break it to you gurg but the warranty doesn't work like that. never was, never will.
He wisely said PS3 and not PS2.
Either way, the 360 came out with no competition a full fiscal year ahead of the PS3. It amazes me that you can even claim them to be of the same 'generation', let alone compare sales figures.
It's not hard to outsell the rival when you haven't got one.
Fact is, the 360 is not dominating in sales.
I don't know why gamers care that much, except that no one wants to buy a system as unpopular as the old Xbox or dreamcast. Look kids: the PS3 is about 1/4th of the world market, and the 360 is about 1/3rd. Neither get the stupid props for being dominating. Both have more than enough saturation to ensure that they will gets tons and tons of awesome games. Everyone freaking wins. Life is good.
I personally prefer the PS3 because I like the franchises that are exclusive. I know people who take tons of pleasure in Halo, and that 360 has been a great deal for them. Multis are not bad at all on either system (though I think the PS3 exclusives have far better graphics). Life's good for everyone.
Last roung, the XBOX was absolutely a terrible failure, and Microsoft abandoned their customers in a sense, very early on. That's what the secret fear is that has led to so many fanboys trying to convince everyone to join their ship. MS knows this, and shouldn't take too much pride in this battle they invented. Sony's never failed to support their players for a while, and they are stubborn about that kind of thing, which is a good thing because I don't think they'll ever again reach PS2 levels of domination themselves.
Greenberg STFU. You too Sony exec.
...and you too abkyuubi47!
ahha!! you too
Then why did you lower the price to counter PS3's move?
... to continue to sell more... Durrr...
Holy shit Simon. That was the stupidest question I've heard on Engadget.
Because they can!
I don't see what's wrong here, this guy stated the obvious... Even if I sold my Xbox 360.
We can freely say neither will outsell the Wii. It's... evident.
Of course they'll sell more... people will need to keep buying them as console after console red rings.
XBOX 360 units sold to the public, or XBOX 360 units shipped from their repair depot?
Sorry, hafta go, can't finish post....my XBOX has just caught fire :(
Ps3 $300
Xbox $200
Hmmh wonder what will sell more in a depression stricken planet.
Dee Dee deee!!!!!
PS3 - $300 - includes wireless internet, blue ray, free online play = $300
Xbox - $200 - $100 for wireless, $150 for standalone player(or just play all those Hd Dvd's they keep releasing), $50 a year online play = $500 plus once a year you need a replacement (see 40% failure rate).
Hmm which one is better?
