Acer's 3D-equipped Aspire 5738DG laptop gets official, examined

Acer's done plenty of boasting about its very first 3D laptop, the Aspire 5738DG, but it's just now gotten completely official, and let a few lucky folks get their hands on it. As you might expect, PC Magazine found the 3D part of the laptop to be something of a gimmick, although not entirely unimpressive. More specifically, while attempts at gaming or viewing standard video converted to 3D were apparently quite a letdown, the included TriDef software did reportedly do a pretty impressive job with photos, and the special 3D layer on top of the screen thankfully doesn't cause any nasty side effects when you're not using the 3D glasses. Otherwise, the laptop is expectedly just your basic mid-range Aspire: inexpensive (just $779 even with the 3D glasses), and capable enough for most folks not looking for a screaming gaming rig (2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics).

No... No it doesn't rest my mind at all... Because that means there are 2 NEW stickers I haven't seen yet, on top of each sticker Best Buy slaps on there whenever I need to get my computer checked...
Maybe I should get a Mac and install Windows on it... Their computers look good...
Though I will need to wait for BootCamp to support 7.

Another ridiculously large "laptop", fullsize keyboard AND numeric means run.
It's just a 16:9 15.5" display. When they switched to 16:9 most companies pack a number pad onto the machine.

That is a fair price. If I needed a new machine I'd get this likely, but I have no idea how Acer's warranty is. I'm use to Dell coming out the next day to fix something.
Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a '06 laptop? This things in need of a makeovr.

I sold these at a staples and they looked so much worse after just a half year of use. Terrible quality plastic.
3D glasses will make you look like the biggest dork ever.
I tried the 3D demo at Frys using the nvidia glasses I think teh frame rate was shit or something .. i did get the nasty side effects .. i think that was because of the lighting and also the glasses frame was too small so u kinda cant focus properly .. they need to make bigger 3D glasses bigger that cover a larger area so u can't see out the sides (its annoying and can fuck up focus). Also the frame rate needs to improve .. some of the issue I had may be due to the system I was watching it on having a shitty pixel response time.

What's with all the icons on the desktop? Does the computer come that way from the factory. I gotta tell ya. I have my fresh copy of W7 without the bloatware and nothing on my desktop except for the trash can, and it feels great.

I really doubt the 3D part. And yes, while ACER units are quite functional, they are a bit lacking in...err aesthetics.
Does this come with a Blu-Ray drive, or do I have to connect my USB Blu-Ray burner to it?
Anyone know what the 3D display technology is? Passive cross polarized lenses? Active open/closed LCD's? Something else?
What about software/drivers to output binocular images?
I gather the glasses are just cross polarised, not active shutter.
