SmartQ V5 MID strives to be relevant, may succeed on some level
Not to be confused with the SmartQ 5 (how could you ever, right?), the SmartQ V5 MID is essentially a V7 with a less spacious screen. Within, you'll find a 600MHz ARM11 processor, 256MB of DDR2 memory, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 2GB of internal storage and an SD expansion slot. There's also USB 2.0 connectivity, an HDMI output good for shooting out material at up to 1080p, a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and a 4.3-inch touchscreen (800 x 480). You'll also find a format support list longer than your latest cellphone bill, though both a price and release date have remained elusive thus far. Here's hoping it's cheap enough to matter.

Go snapdragon or just go back, for real.
I really admire the talent Chinese and Japanese have to read those characters on the screen. I have been learning Mandarin and getting to read some characters on the screen is so hard, they are hard to distinguish. This is relvant to the artile as I was trying to decipher that the ad says :D but I failed.
I can imagine they learn to process those symbols early in life much the same as we do with our letters but I agree it seems like such a complex language.
HD,Connectivity,A lot of software
1080P playback, HDMI output
You beat me to it. Slowly I got:
高清 high definition
互联 interconnected
海量 软件 high volume software
The learning process is quite different actually. It's more like recognizing the shape and strokes of the characters compared to recognizing a combination of alphabets.
As far as pricing goes, you can order one from eletroworld.cn for $179.99 ($30 more than a SmartQ 5 as of this writing). I bought a SmartQ 7 from eletroworld not long ago, and they ship pretty quickly.
Well hello there. Aren't you a stylish-looking little thing.
So... This not only runs Linux, but can also run WinCE and - more importantly I think - Android, according to the store Brian White posted. With the old SmartQ 5 you could install an extra OS (Android/WinCE) and choose what OS to boot at startup. Probably still the case, as this is basically a better looking SmartQ 5 with twice the RAM and a USB-host for tethering(/keyboard?) if running Linux/WinCE.
If it's really just $179.99.. Not bad at all.
The SmartQ 5 has usb host also.
My mistake, I thought this was a feature only the Q7 had.
800x480 screen is nice
but we'll never see this obscure Asian brand sold in stores in US so its pointless to lust after it
Why? If you need it just import it. Having a gadget that no one else has because its not main stream is lust worthy in its own right.
I know, I have the SmartQ 5. The screen alone is worth the price.
who wakes up in the morning and is like:
"god, I need to buy an MID today"

Just one comment, how about giving us some coverage of the new SmartQ V7 while you're at it? Thanks.
Smart V7 was already available to buy, check here: http://www.ownta.com/smartdevices-smart-v7-mid-1080p-player-with-hdmi-output-wifi-and-bluetooth.html
