We're still not entirely convinced that there are enough netbook-needing Nokia fanbois out there to make the
Booklet 3G a retail success, but word on the internets is that the folks in Espoo are seeing "strong market demand," which, if true, must be a little surprising even to them. Assuming orders are indeed high it's logical to expect a successor, and rumors are suggesting that
Compal is expecting the nod to start building the next generation model -- not a particularly shocking notion since the company is already building the current Booklet. When will we see this neo Nokia netbook? Sometime next year... supposedly.
why would anybody want this p.o.s.?
How is it a POS?
cause this p.o.s. has battery life of 12 hours.
Because not everyone wants cheap plastic EEE's. The 3G and HD for starters is a motivator for many, not many schoolkids, but there's other users out there..
piece of shi*? I don't think it is one.
^ it's an extremely overpriced, underpowered netbook made by a company who has never made netbooks. hell, the last few batches of smartphones they've released lately haven't been up to par. if you want to buy something like this why not buy it from somebody who has a history making decent netbooks at decent prices. i'm not saying that this isn't going to work or anything, but hell, for the price they're charging why not get a lot more bang for your buck?
Never made netbooks?
Companies making netbooks 3 years ago? None.
Quite funny to diss some manufacturer for not having a history of making netbooks.
"if you want to buy something like this why not buy it from somebody who has a history making decent netbooks at decent prices"
Yeah...imagine if some company that had never made a phone did that after having success with portable music players...despite not having any history of making those either?! Imagine!
Nokia is known for their excellent build quality - the OS belongs to Microsoft, and is quite good. I'm just sceptical of the HD feature... I thought it used the Atom processor.
Never made netbooks?
You realise the Noia netbook is actually made by Compal who have a pretty long pedigree of making portables, right?
As for the product itself, it's gorgeous, aluminium and shiny and people certainly have a history of paying more than they should for items like that.
Maybe we'll see lower-ranged models first?
Learn English. While it seems neo would be a good word to use in this context to seem intelligent, it isn't.
It would have to be neo booklet 3G. Neo Nokia means it's a new version of Nokia the company which isn't what you meant is it?
If I'm wrong I apologize for that but I doubt it. All that being said, you could've modded almost any later generation, cheaper netbook out there to get the configuration Nokia provides for a helluva lot less before subsidies.
You do know Nokia used to make computers before it did phones? I think he's using Neo in reference to that fact, the old Nokia is back..
Yeah, battery life, HDMI (for my office display, not a TV :-) and the high quality (Apple like) non plastic casing make the deal. Given the components it's not really overpriced. E.g. compare with Sony Vaio VGN-P or VGN-X. Actually it's nearly like what I'm waiting for year now to see from Apple. Hopefully the Booklet will run OS X quite good, too, ...
"Hopefully the Booklet will run OS X quite good, too, ..."
Getting the 3G and GPS to run might be problematic. Should be an OK hackintosh otherwise.
If they keep a similar price, please can they stick ION in that thing, then I might concider as it is damn sexy
This is simply the best you can get to travel;
12h battery, GPS, 10.1' high resolution screen, no fans, built in 3g, aluminum chassis;
and i don't think it is that much overpriced, these laptops always come ready to lower at least €50 to €100 during the 1st year of life... so of 'course the demand is high, it's even hard to find a common laptop that includes most those features with a price lower than €800.
Any one sue Nokia for breaching any IP rights for making notebook? :D
You people are idiots for buying this overpriced P.O.S. Seriously It's what like $599 or $299 plus $60 a month for 2 years on AT&T which comes out to $1740. Are you people insane? Most netbooks don't cost over $299 flat out. You can get netbooks with Core 2 Solo's and better battery life or even a HP 311 with ION for less.
And you guys say MAC facboys are bad? at least they get good hardware >.>
@CJ,
There is no MAC in the market currently at the same price and of same build quality and same/similar competitive features.
The new MacBook doesn't even have space for a SD card reader while this little one could fine space for that.
This one has many features that are not available in cheaper netbooks.
It still only has 1GB of RAM :-(
This rules it out totally as a Windows device.
If it had 2GB RAM I would have bought one the day it came out. Are you listening Nokia?
Many beta-testers have reported that Windows 7 used to run fine on 1GB RAM.
I have to agree with Chris on this one. 1GB may be "fine" for some things but I just know it will be unacceptable for me. I'd be happy if they just let me expand the ram myself.
For what you can do with the processor, 1GB is not bad at all.
Im running win 7 on a hp pavilion dv1000 like 5 years old, and only 512Mb ram and still runs good enough to do what any netbook would do, im pretty sure this would handle the OS like a pro, your really paying extra for the stuff no other netbook has
not just ION, A CULV or i7 then a decent GPU like 9400 and up or AMD 34xx and up. (ssd optional)
and since its nokia, 3g 4g wcdma hsdpa+ whatever must also be in there. the price will be divided monthly by the ISP/Telecoms that you brought the booklet from.
unlimited high speed internet anywhere at only 50 bucks a month........ yeah baby!
in japan they offer netbooks for very low price almost free if you sign up for 7.2mbps unlimited internet anywhere from softbank or other mobile company.
i wonder if nokia will ever release a windows 7 phone, imagine something similar to N900 with windows 7 lite (not the mobile windows os). oh well, ill just wait for the nvidia tegra phone with flash 10.1 support.
"not just ION, A CULV or i7 then a decent GPU like 9400 and up or AMD 34xx and up. (ssd optional)"
You do understand the term NETBOOK, do you? Because it sure as hell doesn't sound as if you quite grasp the concept.
Some people...
actually their coming..................... very very soon

and more.
any of these models can easily be equipped with a discrete graphics chip and an ssd.
core i7 netbooks of course may take a while longer, but their also coming.
some people just doesn't have any imagination... "the italian job"
It could be that this is a netbook easily bought that's with windows 7 already installed?
Make the 3G optional. Cut the price. THEN I'll buy this.
