AlterG's M300 treadmill: same 'anti-gravity' vibe, now 'only' $24,500
We've always heard that holiday calories "don't count," but disregarding urban legend for a minute, we'd say AlterG's timing here is nothing short of impeccable. Nearly 1.5 years after the outfit's P200 series was a-okay'd by the FCC, an all new walking machine has entered the fray. The M300 treadmill brings along the same "anti-gravity" feel (useful for rehabilitation and athletic training), but in a machine that's a third of the price and way, way sleeker. The idea here is to reduce the strain on joints and muscles as one exercises, and while that's certainly commendable, we're still thinking it'll take one or two more iterations to get one priced for the everyman. You know, unless you consider $24,500+ (or $499+ per month for the rest of your Earthly life) "affordable."

somewhere, Newton is laughing his as$ off at the inventor of this money wasting crap.
Zero resistance? Isn't that what bikes and ellipticals are praised for?
I want this. For like 150 bucks.
Only 4 more years on this planet?
perhaps it was a december 2012 joke gone wrong ;)
Yes, I believe it was...
WTF?!
seriously who comes up with this bs? F-ing just put weights on yourself, weight vest, wearable weights and stuff, then go take a mile jog outside. that is so much better then this POS. I've been doing that for sometime now and its a great workout!
The Los Angeles Lakers have one of these. Andrew Bynum and Chris Mihm rehabbed with it and loved it.
ooops... fatal error!
its anit-gravity, its cool though, if youre into being healthy and excerising you wont have to buy crap like this anyway, there are better alternatives, like mine. And looks like this is aimed for the purpose of rehabilitation. if youre not injured in anyway and dont need rehab, but your getting it anyway, DONT KID YOURSELF! Later...
"The idea here is to reduce the strain on joints and muscles as one exercises"
Right, because adding extra weight to your body before running really reduces the strain on your joints. Er, no.
The main purpose of these devices is physical therapy and rehabilitation. A PT grad student I know was trying to do research on a patient with one of these devices, but their funding got pulled for the unit. Apparently they are pretty few and far between. A drop in price might make this more readily available to those in need.
That being said, the only real way to get in shape is to train on a small, super dense planet that you can run full circle around in like 2 minutes.
.... YA THAT JUST HAPPENED
PASS!!!!!!
I first saw the girl, then the machine, then thought, wow, that's a pretty sophisticated sex mach-
Then I remembered that this was Engadget.
It's for rehabilitation, in other words people who can't strap weights to themselves. If you were injured, I bet you'd want to go to a physical therapist who had something like this so you could get back to your normal exercise schedule.
read the second comment to myself, i made the effort to correct myself. i was taking aim at those lazy people who think they can cheat their way into getting ripped or losing weight. Laterz...
Hey, it's cheaper than knee surgery.
Of course...so are bicycles.
So someone could buy this for $24500 or they could use a cheap treadmill and a weight belt with surgical tubing stretched between the belt and the ceiling to get the same albeit probably not as adjustable effect.
Or you know if you don't need rehabilitation you could just run with proper form so your joints don't put additional strain on your joints for free.
I guess the people who'd consider buying this have never heard of deep-water running....
WTF is that and where the f$%k will someone put it.
Your better off doing injury prevention during and after your run . I've used chi running and pace training to dramatically reduce injuries.

Is it iPod ready?
For a moment, I thought this was a humongous Belkin photo printer or something
I thought the world was in a recession/depression?!?
Before I read that the lower half was a sealed pressurized chamber My first thought was what if she looses her footing? The track would pull her in and then she'd be tumbling around inside of it. That'd hurt. :P
