first, and this is awesome
No and No.
more like no and yes
Strictly speaking: Yes, maybe and you're an asshole.
My Intuos laughs at this and all mice.
They're also available in stores - They were released in the Sydney apple store ~13 hours ago:
Here is an unboxing of the individually packaged Magic Mouse + Store display case (see details of vid for pics):

Yes and no.
OMG yes, instead of simply clicking convenient forward and back buttons located right by my thumb to go back and forth on webpages I've always wanted to lift my hands off the mouse to make a swiping gesture with multiple fingers. And why scroll down on a physical wheel that'll automatically go into freespin mode for fast scrolling when I can just stroke my fingers down my mouse 100 times?
This is clearly the bestest mouse ever, finally taking the crown from that beloved iMac puck mouse.
"hours and hours of vigorous rubbing"
there is an innuendo in there somewhere... im sure of it
In YOUR end-o.
I actually have to commend Apple's warranty here, I refused to spend hours upon hours of rubbing - if I couldn't get it working within 10 mins, I'd pop down to the Apple store and get a new one - for free & with a renewed warranty. I'm currently on my 3rd mouse - it's a little annoying I suppose so I'm looking forward to trying out my newbie when it arrives (before 5pm today woooo).
I think I'm going to start a carpel tunnel clinic. Could make millions off all this Apple users who buy this mouse.
All you have to do to clean the Mighty, err Apple Mouse is take a clean white sheet of paper and rub the track ball around on it for 30 seconds in squiggly lines. Clean. Works 99.9999% of the time.
I dont know why everyone tries all these crazy things with thin slices of tape or alcohol or Xacto knifes.
@Jordan - that's exactly my thought. I wonder how many people don't know that their mouse is covered under their normal or extended warranty... Just pop in to an Apple Store and if your mouse isn't working, they'll give you a brand new one. I just did this (for the first time, incidentally, after almost 2 years without problems) a few days ago. Same thing applies to blown iPhone headsets. I think most people just don't know it.
This is just more junk from Crapple. Do we even need mice? I was pretty happy with MS DOS cos F8 was always Print and you can't get friggin more user friendly that that. Or was it F9? Any way, point frigging proven. Stay away from Crapple they only want your money.
/s
it HAS to be.
cmd-P is always print in Mac OS applications.
Ctrl-P is always print under Windows applications.
F8 to my best recollection, and according to my recent Google search never printed under MS-DOS.
What is your point?
i opted for the vengance hammer
As did I. I can't believe a true 'fix' for the scrollball has finally arrived.
"hand-jam"
??
the dirt and dead skin that comes of your hands
yeah that cracked me up too
I think that's a euphemism for when you bang a table like a drum kit.
Yea, I have a ton of that shit in my 360 controller, even caked on the flat surfaces that I have to clean off every so often.
Purchased, looking forward to it.
I don't think it will be really useful, I think it is inconvenient to do gestures on the mouse. Also I want a proper wheel on the mouse, I hated my Logitech Air which had similar scroll to this.
From the article above, it seems that the magic mouse's multi touch features won't work without snow lepoard. Is this true?
Nope not true. Apple provides drivers for Leopard too. You can as also use it in non multitouch mode on any computer with Bluetooth.
Everyone knows the main issue was not the scroll ball - it was the fact you had to retrain your fingers to lift off the mouse every time you wanted to click or it wouldn't know what was left or what was right.
And this hasn't changed with the "Magic Mouse", has it?
Well, changed a little: When both fingers are on the mouse, it's assumed to be a left click.
Still not looking for the "last finger" for a click, so the left finger has to be up during the right click. Found it much better to use than old mighty though.
Kabe
The old Mighty works this way too. If you keep both fingers on the mouse while clicking, it makes a left-click. It's just slightly annoying that you have to lift your left finger in order to right-click.
Slightly annoying? It's highly annoying. That as well as the buttons on the side that always seemed to think I was pressing them and the tiny tiny scroll wheel from hell. Apple sucks at making mice, the puck mouse, the mighty mouse, and (I'll admit I haven't used this yet) this doesn't look to be any better. You can't just grab a mouse and use it, you have to lightly touch it or it freaks out. Not to mention all the cramped motions they're trying to pack into this. I'm thinking this mouse is going to suck too (except for the die hardest of fans)
I used one for about 1 minute in the store.. talk about a recipe for wrist strain.
Wha? I'm using the Mighty Mouse, and when both fingers are down it assumes left clicks, just like I set it to in the Mouse preferences. Right click I need to lift my left finger.
Mighty Mouse is a little uncomfortable if you use it like those tall traditional mouses where you rest the weight of your hand on it, but if you keep a light touch and only touch it with your finger tips it's very nice and comfortable. Magic Mouse looks like it would be worse though. I'd opt for Expose over ineffective side-swipe any day.
Want one. Sure logitech and others will follow.
I believe the previous mighty mouse was such an ergonomical marvel that nobody considered copying it. The same for this mouse, yeh it looks nice and sleek but it seems to be the same disastrous concept with a multitouch surface. It´s a shame that while Apple makes nice designs doesn´t put practicality ahead of aesthetics. I can´t tell how many Apple´s I´ve seen with a Logitech mouse due the crappiness of the mightymouse.
So Apple.. please design a mouse like this but put functionality ahead of your design. I couldn´t care less that it has less buttons.. weather its an mouse.. or an mp3 player.
Hurrah, no more stuck scroll balls. Though I don't know how much more useful the multi-touch would be over the middle-click and squeeze which are now gone.
There's no buttons on the side! Why with the lack of buttons apple? Why?!?!?
Buttons are awesome! they add functionality! Now I have to press my keyboard for expose! I don't wanna press my keyboard for expose!
Grrrr...
It would ruin the design...
Form with function hobbling along about 300 yards behind.
Set up a hot corner! There all better.
Pinch, 3 finger slash, followed by 2 finger swirl for Expose. Everything is less than 100 gestures away.
Apple has finally achieved their long sought goal, NO buttons on a mouse! But why?!
Are you an idiot, boot2skull? There's one huge button and the rest is a touch screen.
I got one of these with my new 21.5" iMac. So far I'm liking it a lot. No scroll ball to gunk up is the biggest plus. The sideswipe backwards/forwards function works in any browser, not just Safari. I'm not a gamer, so I don't need or want 15 buttons on my mouse.
The annoying thing about the Magic Mouse is the fact that it uses multitouch for right click, and only actually has one button. For example, if you have both fingers resting on the surface and you press down with your middle finger (ie to right click), as long as both fingers are touching the mouse, it will assume you're just left-clicking. You have to lift your index finger off of the mouse before right-clicking for it to register. It's so annoying, and it ruins what could have been a fantastic mouse.
I think you are wrong. I tried one in the store and I don't think I had to raise my other finger. Remember you could right click w/ the Mighty Mouse and it didn't have a touch surface so it either actually has 2 buttons under the hood or the one button reads the direction of the applied pressure. I should be getting my Magic Mouse delivered in the next couple hours so I guess I'll find out for sure then.
Mighty Mouse also has touch surface and there's one simple button underneath the shell - it doesn't sense the direction of pressure.
I was thinking about replacing my Mighty Mouse with this, but it still works well for me (after 3 years of use) and I'm a little disappointed by the lack of buttons on the side. I use those all the time, not sure if I could do without them. For that matter, I also use screen corners, but it kinda depends on the situation.
