Sony Ericsson Rachael teaser video plays with our hearts
The Motorola DROID might be at the forefront of the Android scene right now, but it looks like it's going to have some high-end competition soon -- Sony Ericsson's been hyping the Rachael / XPERIA X3 launch on November 3, and today it's put out this little teaser video. Nothing much here other than some fleeting glimpses of the handset in Luster White, but it's looking quite sharp, and if the final specs are close to the DROID's we could have a real battle on our hands -- especially since SE's crazy Android UI skin looks pretty sweet. Check the video after the break.

I am very surprised it has 3.5mm jack.
If SE kept their own earphone connector, it would be a shot in their feet in the Android market.
All Xperia phones have/will have a 3.5mm jack
definitely a good idea... who really likes weird proprietary jacks?
I don't like the backside cover design where the camera is. It looks as if it's the same as always, can't they be more inventive?
I can't believe I am looking forward to a Sony Ericsson product. For the past decade, that company was blacklisted for me due to their arrogant and cheap attempts to lock their customers into their proprietary "technologies".
What have we come to now! Verizon not locking their phones down and Sony opening up to standards??? Is it snowing in hell yet?
You had me at hello............
Does anyone know if it's possible to install the "Google Experience" version of Android instead of the SE version on this phone?
@Daniel - looking at the video I'd have to say.. how the heck is anyone going to know that from this?
@Daniel You can disable HTC's Sense interface and use stock android on there so i would imagine you could do the same. The Rachael UI does look intriguing though so i would wait to decide what its going to be like
just gorgeous!
wow, now that is sweet. Too bad the clip is sooooo short, should have had more about the UI and special features of the phone since the planned release date is only a couple of days away. Hopefully it will get on one of the US carriers
Ah. Guess that answers my question lol
Possible newb question...But....Carrier availability?? I feel like they Sony-Ericsson is always on sprint? But honestly have no clue...
No no no...never Sprint.
SE specializes in GSM phones.
To add to it, their major handsets have most noticeably been on AT&T (read my sad face)
But some are pegging it for T-Mobile (see my happy face)
@Colin S.
Any phone that's on ATT, you can use on T-mobile. And vice versa, so you should be just as happy if it lands on any carrier. Sure, the price may be more, but it's better than it landing on Sprint.
I'm on VZW, so I was really just making sure I wouldn't regret buying a Droid next Friday. lol...Safe to say I won't.
no terance 3g isn't interchangeable and its kinda a big deal with smartphones
That phone is quite beautiful, can't wait to see how it performs with what's allegedly under the hood. November 3th?I can't wait that long for its announcement (sadly, I'll have to wait even longer till it comes out), I need a DeLorean and 1.21 gigawatts.
And don't forget the flux capacitor!
@ Adam
It is what makes time travel possible! Panda just has a crap car and possibly crazy hair.
The world would be a better place if we all had our hair in the style of Doc Brown, the man is a genius.
No no no. The crystals is what makes it work.
remember, remember, the threeth of november...
How can you tell it is beautiful?
Ever hear of the term 'Myspace Angle' when referring to some chick on myspace took some obscure angles picture of herself to hide the ugly? Viewing that teaser is pretty much a similar experience... you don't even know what it looks like.
@Lou
Well, from the fact that pictures have been taken of the black version (I'm pretty sure the white version looks similar except, you know, white). So, if I say it looks beautiful, I'm not jumping the gun, based on what I've seen it is a beautiful phone.

I stand corrected. It does look cool in the other pictures.
As for that video... I dunno, just seems like a wasted effort to me. If you hadn't seen other pictures of it, you wouldn't be able to tell what it even is.
@Lou
Yeah, if you hadn't known about Rachael UI or how the device looked beforehand, I doubt this would excite many except for die-hard Sony Ericsson fans.
Is that a led flashlight underneath the camera?
No it's not. I assume it's some rubber circle thing and have no idea what it is used for
EDIT:
actually my bad, according to gsm arena it is a flash, but it still looks like a rubber circle

@Sohip
I want an LED Fleshlight....Oh wait, you said flash....
Wow, it's really like the leaks!
I hope the specs are, also - it will make the Droid looks old even before being available.
C'mon SE, don't take 6 months to bring this to Brazil!
Wherever that phone goes i go. It looks amazing.
Johnathan Ives shit himself when he saw this phone.
If it does have that SE UI that was shown, well I think my iPhone 3G might get replaced for an Android device. I've been tempted many times, but this phone right here might push me over the edge.
Well done Sony! This is what I am expecting from Sony Ericsson. Giant is waking up again! Make 'Gear up like Bond' and 'Like no other' true. :D
it looks quite bulky to me, I think the next thing will be SS bankrupcy.
Glad to see decent Sony Ericsson handsets,
for the past years they were making mediocre phones which led them to lose profit
but now they have a pretty promising line-up, I am loving the new Satio while Rachel X10 seems to be the best Android Phone yet!
Anyone have an idea how much this phone will cost on contract and who may carry it?
You see...this is what I' m waiting for. I was just telling myself come Feb I would switch to Verizon, but seeing as SE doesn't really make CDMA handsets...I have to rethink.
I've seen rumors of this headed towards T-Mobile. All I know...come Nov 3, if it has the UI, Android 2.0, Snapdragon with sufficient RAM, the rumored onboard 16GB...I will go wherever this goes. Even if it was only carried on Cricket...hell, I'd get the bad boy!
Wait until Nov 3. You'll not be able to get a Droid no VZW before it, anyway.
Yeah. Droid had caught so much of my attention, I almost forgot about this phone. I'm hoping everything pans out to be true. And Android handset with a hefty amount of on board storage will be a very good addition. Let me leave my rooted handset alone.
I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T gets this phone due to their good partnership with SE.
Please be T-Mobile, please be T-Mobile!
I'm starting to get the itch to uprade my G1 and I don't want the myTouch or Cliq. Those devices are clearly aimed for the teen-college market. I want something I can really show off... and, unfortuantely, leaving T-Mobile is out of the question. Best damn carrier I've ever had.
I'm in the same boat as you... I actually like T-Mobile... And I'm holding out for something with a >528MHz processor to come to it.. Either through T-Mobile or unlocked...
Oh dear, I think the illusive HTC HD2 just took a back seat to this :)
Dear sony,
where is the Clie' Droid? I want a flip and fold capacitive phone....
it is.
dang it.. wrong reply button!
Oh sweet lord if this is 800x480 or higher in res than I might get it. Woo Boost!
It is.
Nope - no battle at all. SE doesn't do CDMA -never has. They do GSM.. I PRAY they will have the SnapDragon proc in it -but Sony ALWAYS finds something to skimp on.
the pic looks like a car monitor for the kids to watch
Is that a full size USB port???
it's probably a micro. But I've been wrong before
I'm really excited to see all of the decently spec'd Android phones coming out! However, I think I am going to have to go with the Droid for this round. I MIGHT be willing to forgo the physical keyboard in exchange for a faster processor. But if this one doesn't have the car/home docks (which I assume it does not) then I think the Droid will be a better fit for me, personally.
If it DOES have the docking stations I may have to reconsider. Would still be a very tough choice, though!
I think car dock will become a default accessory for android 2.0.
velcro is my car dock. cheap and handy.
Wow, that thing is sexy. If it does have similar (or better) specs to the droid, I would say this one wins in the looks department, even from these only fleeting glances.
Here's the real rub, though...will it compete with other Android devices and stay under $200? For some reason I feel like they're going to overprice this thing...
@Jake, go with that feeling....
Is it meant to compete with those devices? This is intended as a premium device for those who are willing to pay the extra.
But too much of an extra...and it won't get anywhere. Not even on a carrier. I'm still upset about the first Xperia. That was going to keep me on WinMo (so I'm actually kind of glad it didn't get anywhere, lol)
Too bad it does not have a physical keyboard, but damn its gorgeous.
I wonder if i'll have to sell my house, my car, or both to get me one of these...
I must say, this looks verrrry nice indeed. If it comes out for ATT, I'm definitely getting this.
Although, every single SE phone I ever owned, has died on me within 6 months.
Screen blacks out, whites out, lags, or auto shut downs for NO reason.
Like any true geek, I keep my phones polished and in its best conditions.
That's odd...my W810, besides the battery connector being a lil shakey (because admittedly I have thrown this phone across brick walls), it still works very good. I know if i never had thrown it, it would still be in very good condition.
...And the Droid is obsolete.
The droid is already intended to be obsolete, by being locked into US CDMA only. Even Verizon has said they're moving to LTE.
Yea i don't like the Droid that much but:
1) There are rumors of a GSM version.
2) LTE uses SIM cards.
Hopefully it wont say "XPERIA" under the screen like the leaks, cheapens the design in my opinion.
Yeah, bring it on SE. Sell it unlocked please. Let me have a laugh at those Verizon fanboys being locked into US CDMA only with their "droid."
I don't think you have anything to worry about. I think this will be sold unlocked for sure.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/sony-ericssons-android-powered-xperia-x3-sorta-confirmed-by-way/
Well i actually was out in NYC the other night and there were a bunch of street teams out in red and black uniforms demo'ing the DROID. I normally don't do this but the DROID is AWESOME! and just for demo'ing the phone, I got free tickets to a private concert with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!
Awesome. So want that phone.
no the DROID is good...i swear. Need to check it out. 11.6 it comes out
Since this caught my eye, I did a search for SE X3. I was surprised, to say the least.
The most complete compilation on it I found so far:

check it out - droiddoes.com
Your point?
oh sup jiz.
please for the love of god let this be tmobile. pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!! I'm cheap and dont like cdma. cmoooooooooon.
After owning a k700i and k300, I must say SE has the ballz to create a truly user friendly phone that has polish (credit really goes to Ericisson). This looks real good.
If they skip the Sony sync and desktop software and keep the Ericisson hardware, this will truly take major share from the iPhone. Of course, if it's on AT&T. Funny thing is typically phones like this from SE go on sale unlocked or only in the EU (not US)....
I see this hitting the iPhone more than the Droid. The Droid will hit all the BB's and WinMo devices. Talk about Android with a 1-2 punch!
$700 dollars!!
No thanks. I'll stick to my cheap $49 iPhone 3g.
Right?
Btw I'm a Sony fanboy.
my point is that it has great capabilites...camera is amazing, it's FAST, high res screen, google search by voice..plus I was excited about the tickets I won. :)
Jesus christ who cares about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!
I'd rather try and slash my wrists with the DROID then go see them
@Alex BintolerantB:
Whoa. Can't say I like their site's vid "Heads will roll" but why so serious? She's just excited about winning free tix. Seriously tho, Jessica, I hope they have better music than that vid.
Now that is one sharp looking phone. I wish Verizon were releasing this phone instead of the Droid.
Sony's device, like most GSM devices will not matter. GSM in the U.S. means Apple, crap, or T-Mob, worse crap. Have a nice day.
??????????????????????????????????????
There was nothing there! Kiss my ass!
I'm ready to sell all my phones to buy that. Come on SE, stop dilly dallying. Get this in before Christmas and I'll buy an extra one for my girlfriend.
neither the droid or this phone are better than each other. sure, this phone will likely have the faster processor. but the droid has other advantages also. the real decision anyone thinking of either phone has to ask themselves is what carrier they want.
the droid gets alot of hype because people are looking to get off at&t's craptastic network after 2 years of using an iphone. if this phone comes to t-mobile it could compete for that group's attention.
sadly, i dont see many customers for this phone if it goes to at&t.
The only advantages the droid has over this is a QWERTY keyboard and a small price tag.
Can you think of anything else?
I think I am in love.....
Now this would make me get out of bed early to get in a line.
seXY BUT I wish it had a physical keyboard
Would a physical keyboard really be that much quicker than a virtual one on a 4 inch screen? I mean I didn't have that much trouble when I had an iPhone and that screen is smaller. These virtual buttons should be quite a bit bigger than the real buttons on most real keyboards.
Clearly, sex.
I like the device an all, but SE really needs to make this device look really slick and cool. Right now it looks all fat and ugly.
Sexy. I want moar!
Do I clean my pants? Or wait for the bigger mess that's going to come on the 3rd to clean?
