Motorola's
DROID is just a few days away from dropping on Verizon, but why pay $299 (minus $100 rebate) for that when you could instead pay $299 (possibly also minus $100) for a fully-featured
definitely non-netbook VAIO P? Yes, Sony's littlest ultraportable looks to be coming to VZW, popping up on a test page in a configuration with 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Home Premium. Seemingly (and curiously) no SSD versions will be on offer, possibly to keep down on costs, as the subsidized $299 price is quite a bit lower than the $800 or more you'd be looking to buy one new -- not to mention a good bit more appealing than the other netbooks Verizon currently has on offer for the same price. Mind you, that two year wireless broadband contract won't pay for itself...
NIce. This is a cool purse laptop.
What? There's no room for condoms.
@web I am sure it comes with antivirus - prolly Kaspersky for Ultra-portables
Damn, if only they offered the SSD-based model.
If it only had a cell-phone radio to make calls. I will take this one on a heart-beat. Imagine this netbook, with a bluetooth headset and a bluetooth mini-remote -control. When you get the call, the headset vibrates or the mini remote does and you can answer and see a peek of the call without pulling out the netbook.
I mean this one is really really small to be a truly ultra-portable and for that prize - hotness.
First time I am glad to see something small.
they would then have to include some kind of software other then the included os, because i couldn't imagine this things not lasting all day ON trying to receive phone calls
@ohsnap ohh I missed that point. You are right. Maybe something like what is present on the other Sony phones some Symbian OS. Hehe that gets too complicated I guess.
The Vaio P dual boots to one of those quick OS's if you want to conserve battery life ad do some menial tasks. When in the alternative Sony OS, you get a ridiculous amount of battery life, sooooo maybe the phone software could reside there.
I saw that Sony vaio p at sony style in my local mall. Not worth the money. The build quality is cheap. It feels like a fucking 99 cent store toy. And the resolution is garbage.
I do say sony does a great job in making that shit look good on their website but in person the experience is an entirely different story. All their computers are plasticky crap.
you seem angry as all godamn hell
yeah no one's buying this
Couldn't you get this for $200, pay the $175 ETF, and still come out on top?
Nahh the new ETF is $375 but even with that you will still come out on top.
Did you actally try playing with the resolution? Alot of the stores either have the resolution turned down so that people can see, or turned all the way up so that you have more window space and slicker rendering. None of them however, have the it configured to where the P shines: highest resolution possible and icons as well as text set to slightly larger than normal.
As for quality, it feels better than most definitely any netbook I've handled as well as better than any of the 15inchers that you typically get for that price.
I picked up a bog standard P off eBay for peanuts. Great little machine, *truly* ultra portable, and runs fine assuming you run either XP or Win7 on it and use it purely for browsing and SD video. It evens runs 720p video well if you follow a few guides off t'internet. I'd never have bought it at full price though, ouch!
