New XPERIA X10 hands-on video brings the snappy
Sony Ericsson's Android-based XPERIA X10 was mighty sluggish when we played with it at the launch a couple weeks ago, but this new video from hdblog.it shows what looks like a much newer software build that's dramatically faster and more responsive. There's nothing much new here in terms of features, but just the fact that the X10 is in the wild and running well is encouraging -- especially since we're really digging that media playback interface. Now all we need is some Stateside shipping details and we'll be all set. Video after the break.

Loving this Sony Android
THIS IS THE WAY ALL UNBOXING VIDS SHOULD BE MADE
raising the bar for gadget blogs ;) well done!
Funny how everyone demoing a phone always loads Engadget to test speed as it's "the ultimate browser killer" it seems.
Specs show that it has the 3G bands for T-mobile and 2G bands for AT&T....
dammit......
Not sure what you mean, as far as I know AT&T uses 1900 and 850.
From the spec sheet:
Networks
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSPA 800/850/1900/2100
This is official, I've become a SonyEricsson fanboy.
OK, not, I'll stick to my policy of keeping a distance with gadgets (they are just a bunch of ICs after all...), but this phone made it to the top of my gadget wish-list. They managed to optimize the code flawlessly (the Snapdragon might have some influence in the snappiness part... ) and this is finally an Android phone with a nice built-in media player. This phone might be for SonyEricsson what Droid is to Motorola.
What's the green LED at the top right for? It stays lit while the phone boots and then keeps blinking throughout the entire video.
Please tell me Ericsson haven't brought back their "All is well! All is well! All is well! All is well! All is well!" indicator. Or, if they have, that it can be easily disabled without loss in functionality.
The dude looked like he had a lot of messages coming through on his contacts - there were quite a few things flashing in the top status bar. That's probably all it was.
It's a text, email, missed call, etc alert
A _flashing_ green light!? It's 2009 - what in God's name were they thinking!?

The anti-Droid.
looking like a viable and buy-able candidate!
WANT.
NOW.
But I'll wait until they optimize the UI and mesh everything together better.
Patience =]
C'mon, T-Mobile! SUBSIDIZE THIS.

Newer, much faster prototype and an extensive preview there. You can also spot some changes in the UI layout.
so does anyone know what 3g bands this thing will have?
xperia x10 - UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100
xperia x10a - UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100

What's funny is i wanted this phone when the 3G iphone came out, and now a year and a half later it's finally beginning to be released. Crazy!
Ok, so right now I'm looking to dump my iphone for either an HD2, whatever android version of the HD2 arrives, or the Xperia X10. Right now, the HD2 is the frontrunner, but this X10 is looking very nice. I love the interface. I love Sense UI as well.
Watching the video here, I couldn't help but notice the ability to email songs from the phone, which I find shocking, especially from Sony, if this means I can send the actual song via gmail to anybody I want. Anybody know if this is an actual ability, or is it just the ability to email song information to someone so they can purchase it from an online music store? I know it's early, since we're looking at 2/10/10 at the earliest before we get to play with this ourselves, but any advanced information is more than appreciated. :)
I think it's brilliant that so many people have already made up their mind that they aren't getting this phone when all they've seen is the UI and the pre-production UI at that!
I personally want this phone, but will reserve judgement (and purchase) until it hits the shops and I can actually demo it myself. There's only so much information you can get from a review and if you're willing to base a decision on the opinions of others, good luck to you.
I love Engadget.
For such a "fast processor" that thing sure runs slow. In fact, I haven't seen a single phone yet that can handle android without sluggish performance, and choking up.
this will be the phone that forces me to buy a sony ericsson phone again.
but quick question: does that light in the top right have to blink? the last time i had a sony ericsson, it had a blinking light and it kinda bugged me. like it was notifying me that i had an unread msg even when i didn't.
regardless, i will be looking into purchasing one next year.
At e2save we didn't sell many of the original as it was too expensive but we have high hopes for the X10. So much so that we have put our page live on it already even though we won't stock it until April. Personally i might have to get one, the camera is great, pity it isn't as powerful as the Satio though. Suppose you can't have everything....
