New XPERIA X10 hands-on video brings the snappy
Sony Ericsson's Android-based XPERIA X10 was mighty sluggish when we played with it at the launch a couple weeks ago, but this new video from hdblog.it shows what looks like a much newer software build that's dramatically faster and more responsive. There's nothing much new here in terms of features, but just the fact that the X10 is in the wild and running well is encouraging -- especially since we're really digging that media playback interface. Now all we need is some Stateside shipping details and we'll be all set. Video after the break.

Looks clean. Does anyone know if you can sync this with a mac?
It's android so, at least in theory, you can sync it with anything.
You can drag and drop files, I doubt there is much for 3rd party OSX sync apps.
Looks like a nice phone, but there is no way I would buy a non 2.0 Android phone now after having one.
with a name like x10, can it control my x10 devices?
Ohh I didn't know it was Android. I think that's great news. I have never had a privilege of owning an Android phone but new Android phones look very promising to me. I would switch from my iPhone to Droid but I have spent SOOOOOOO much money on apps and at this point I feel like it would be a bad move to jump to any other platform.
Yeah, since it's Android it'll sync with anything to Google to your phone.
Music can be done with drag and drop or things like Songbird foldersync.
I had a 3GS and spent a ton of money on hundreds of apps but I wasn't happy with the service or my phone bill and the luster wore off after a handful of months so I switched to the Hero on Sprint, which is my favorite carrier that I never should have left and never will leave again.
If you're not happy, don't let money you spent on some programs be the deciding factor...it is a phone afterall, and Android is awesome.
If you are happy, then carry on.
Missing Sync supports Android based phones on Mac. I've used it with WM phones only though.
DoubleTwist! (www.doubletwist.com) How has DoubleTwist not spread more throughout the Geek community? Especially Engadget.
HOT DAMN!!!!!
Looks like Sony Ericsson threw everything inside this phone ( should we still call it a phone ... i just think its unfair to call it a phone .... maybe MONSTER seems more appropriate or DRAGON EMPEROR :D ) but the kitchen sink .... kitchen sink being Android 2.0 in this analogy. but Feb 2010 just sux as a release date .... well i guess its right what they say ... Good things in life dont come easy ..
only if that ship date of Feb 2010 for OVERSEAS weren't so discouraging. Damn.
Look like I'll be keeping my rooted G1 for a little bit longer.
By the way, have y'all seen the pictures and video taken with this phone. BEAUTIFUL!
Puts all other smartphones to shame.
Go over to http://www.phandroid.com and take a look (and no this is not a spam, just only place I've seen it posted)
Wow, you're not kidding about those pictures. Thanks for sharing that.
No prob Mark.
I was AMAZED at that. But then again...SE always puts out beautiful cameras in their phones. I haven't used a camera phone in ages (Specially since having my G1) but this makes me have faith in it again.
And the video...would make me want to actually take video.
Now, only thing is...how fast does it take to launch, snap, etc. With the Snapdragon under the hood...I would expect nothing but the best....
True, those pics are gorgeous, the only smartphones that can beat that are the Idou and Omnia HD.
But apart from that, I'm not really interested in this device, my HD2 is serving me well! :D
Still, it's a great product, and it has re-established my faith in Sony Ericsson.
Oh please. 'Puts all other smartphones to shame'? Samsung's Omnia HD, Nokia's N86/N82 and Sony Ericsson's Satio all produce better videos and pictures.
I'm sorry...I meant to put Android smartphone. Please don't chop my head off. =[
@iDavey : I think you mean beautiful _still_ cameras :P
My K800i was an astoundingly capable photo camera but only recorded in horrible QVGA video. I guess that's down to the phone's processing power. I was expecting the X10 to have at least 720P, since it has a Snapdragon, so WVGA is a bit of a let down for me. Especially since there was rumor that the X10 would do 1080P (It's since been stated that it takes 1080P Full HD stills. Progressive stills? I don't get it...)
Yeah, I never got into the video recording on a phone. Just wasn't for me.
When I had my W810 though...that's when I got into the pics on phones. But every phone after my SE just didn't live up to it (I reiterate...especially since owning a G1. Love it
The pics and videos from the phone are crystal clear! thats a huge selling point for me! Hope it doesn't use the loser memory stick and instead they go with micro sd
@Destricto_Ense If you're still confused about the '1080P stills' then its due to the fact that images can still be interlaced to reduce filesize, often you won't notice that much of a difference, but if you do a lot of photoshop you'll notice that when saving something like a .jpg at 100%, the dialogue box afterward is none or interlaced, by interlacing it reduces the quality a tad bit BUT also decreases the filesize, when used for things like facebook, twitter, any forum icon and stuff interlacing isn't such a bad idea since the image is scaled down anyway.
I'd also like to note that if you pick up PicSay Pro off the market for the G1, the photos can look quite a bit better, it seems to have sort of a bluish tint to all the pictures and picsay pro can fix that and a ton more, it's $5.99 but well worth it IMO. Still nowhere close to the amazing pics from this camera, but it's saved me from having absolutely terrible shots on around 400 of my pictures.
The intro is so... dramatic.
give 'im the stick! no dooon't give 'im the stick!
oooooooohhhhhhh
Reviewing
SERIOUS BUSINESS
*shits serious*
Yes very dramatic. I was waiting for one big battlefield where the a army of XPERIA X10 phones would defeat all its competitors.
Never has a simulated wood-grain table surface been so impressively presented.
It must be a European thing.
@ phobic99:
Brilliant profile pic.
Last one there is a WHAT???
Classic Ebaumsworld.
....directed by Michael Bay
is there an english version of this video?
Much better, but it's still not good enough. With the amazing specs this device has it really shouldn't be as unresponsive as it is. Hopefully this isn't a final build and they have some tweaking left to do.
Well hello?! If it was a final build (which it isn't) wouldn't they ship it now and not in February?
Did you even watch the video? Unresponsive???? Unless you mean it can not read your mind and anticipate your whims, then yeah... but for us normal folk that decice seemed quite usable.
It does look a bit spiffier but could still use some work(hence why it's not already released, probably). Looks fine in terms of speed now but it seems to have some input issues now, so if they fix those, we're looking at a pretty sweet phone.
boring
I agree nothing spectacular about it. I was expecting more but from watching it not worth the wait.
Are you Serious!? Look I'm a huge HTC fanboi if there ever was one, and that phone, with Android 1.6 none the less, takes a huge dumb on everything else Android I've seen to date. I mean the UI is absolutely breath taking. How you didn't like that I sure as shit don't know.
@Slick: Seriously? The first time I saw Rachael I thought it looked really good and snazzy but was worried about how functional it would be with some of the design elements and transitions (they looked more pretty than functional).
But the more I see of the Rachel UI the less I like it. It's too blue if you ask me. I mean having a consistent color scheme is good, but the UI looks like the color scheme is white and different shades of blue only.
I think I prefer HTC's Sense UI to Rachael personally.
Have to agree - was exciting in the first shots, but the more I see it "in the flesh", the less I like it. First of all, it's bulkier than I expected - the UI doesn't convince me 100% and this navy blue, or whatever it is, puts me off.
Well this is pure speculation, but if you don't like the blue (which I'm sorta in love with) this is a 'smart' phone after all. I'm going to assume that some different color themes will be available. Orange, Green, and Red themes would looks excellent too.
The phone reminds me of the PSP some, the way different sections of the UI have different but similar backgrounds. This was the 1st time I had looked at the phone as well. From what I understand the phone was quite laggy before. Having not seen the phone in that state before (thus to preconceived notions or previous feelings) and only seeing it beautiful and snappy, I like it.
You know you want to, AT&T...
I doubt ATT will ever carry a cell phone with a decent Camera
i doubt at&t will ever carry an android phone
Looks like you may get your wish if recent speculation is anything to go by.
me like!!!
wow..this phone actually makes me want to move to a GSm carrier and ditch Sprint..Love the snappy Adroid build, looks clean and new.
I'm also glad that is says 1.6 now. I was under the impression during the initial launch, they said it would be with 1.5. So that's a breath of fresh air.
Has to be 1.6 due to the processor.
What? The snapdragon can't do android 2.0?
COPY TEH IPHONE MUCH!!! IPHONE IS STILL DA KING NO ONE CAN BEAT IT!!!!
What an appropriate name.
Hold up...hooooooooold up.
Where is the iPhone copied here?
Is it the 4in 800x480 screen?
Oh I know, it's the three buttons at the bottom...
Or it could be that Snapdragon processor, yes.
Or maybe the whole UI that they TOTALLY ripped off from the iPhone.
Ah...I see. It's the chrome streaks on the side. Yes...the iPhone basically invented chrome and streaks. So it's to be expected.
unfortunately this looks nothing like the iPhone killer that everyone has been looking for. I really hope that this is not representative of the final product. The UI has this acquired taste feel to it and that's usually bad for sales. Don't get me wrong, I was really hoping that Sony can offer something better than an iPhone but unfortunately this seems too much like work in progress and also the highly customized Sony interface would not blend in with the controls of the 10,000+ apps for Android that already exist.
