Lenovo's ThinkPad X100e gets detailed: AMD Neo-based, not a netbook
We've already gotten a few brief, mysterious glimpses of Lenovo's thin-and-light ThinkPad X100e (sometimes known as the X200e), but it looks like things are now starting to get a bit more real. Contrary to previous speculation, this one's not, it seems, a ThinkPad netbook, but an "entry ultraportable," which apparently means that it is small, thin and light just like a netbook, and has a "netbook-like price point" -- it's just... not a netbook. Less nebulous are the device's specs, which include an 11.6-inch, 1366 x 768 display, an AMD Athlon Neo processor, support for up to 4GB of RAM, up to a 320GB hard drive, optional 3G and GPS and, of particular note to some particular folks, a distinctly ThinkPad keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint. Still no indication of a release date just yet, but it looks like you will at least be able to get this one in your choice of black, red or white, despite its distinctly business-minded nature.

Now this is a netbook, er "notebook", I could really enjoy using. If the price is right then I'll be saying so long to my 1000HE with its cramped keyboard and low res display.
I thought that this white thinkpad fake when it was first leak.
Man when they had the leaked pictures I thought the keyboard looked stupid, but it looks pretty good, and the reviews will tell how it feels. But I'm pretty sure I'm buying this on release date!
"3 USB ports (1 powered)"
Wait, what? So the other 2 can only be used to run self-powered devices like printers? It would be a big fail if you couldn't even use a flashdrive or USB 3G modem in those other 2 slots without a self-powered USB hub.
That probably means you can use that port to charge devices like phones and iPods while the laptop is off but connected to a power outlet.
Graphics chip, thickness, Wimax and price?
Why would do this? Call it anything but Thinkpad. How am I going to recommend a Thinkpad to anyone when this kind of crap carries the name?
X210s is where it will be. Not this.
Take it easy buddy. It just a name. It's like saying you are shame to be a certain race because there are some idiots from said race.
No, this is much more like Apple selling a new Macbook that couldn't run OSX. It's missing all the key parts of a thinkpad laptop that make them thinkpads. Much so like the crappy SL lines .
the first thinkpad id ever consider buying
WHATTTTTTTTTTTT!?!!?!!? COLOR CHOICES FOR THINKPAD!? AW NO. This my friends is not a thinkpad.
c-c-c-chicklet keyboard
noooooo!
So, between this, the U150 and the S12 with the Vaio Nano or ION, which would be the better choice?
The Dell 11z with SU4100
Why the hell is everyone unverified?
@Oli D
Cause you have to log in, and verify your username.
And then: no-one can become a strawman you!
Ooooooo.
I've been wanting a "small and light" lappy for ages with a nipple/trackpoint, as my Dell D410 will die eventually and I'd like some more screen estate. I'll take this in a couple of years when I can get it cheap. YUM.
Ew-tastic desing. I men really, white shell? That' awful, even if it wasn't black inside. Then add that it's a black Thinkpad-ish interior, which clashes even more with the shiny whiteness, and it's an awful, awful combo. Like a goldplated car. Or goldplated laptop.
Either make it white and call it an ideapad, or make it all black and call it a thinkpad. This fusion thing just makes my eyes bleed.
@Fara If you read the article, there's a point where it says that it'll be available in white, black, or red. I have to say that I think it'd look pretty good in all black.
They shouldn't even offer the shiny white/fusion versions under the Thinkpad name. That's sort of like putting OS X on any HP, and then calling it a macbook pro. It misses the point completely
Pay new retail prices for old MV-40 tech?? I hope you enjoy maxing out your processor. (and getting little output)
