The reason is exactly that, this is in no way a ThinkPad, the touchpad being so close to the edge with no overlap to protect it is surely going to result in physical damage to the buttons at some point and would not be acceptible to the proper ThinkPad design team
It has a 6 row keyboard and made of cheap plastic, this is just like the SL series ThinkPads which are not proper ThinkPads either and they are really starting to tarnish the brand imho
