NVIDIA's Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU makes a Twitter appearance
We'd been hearing that NVIDIA's Fermi chips had been delayed, but they're apparently far enough along for spokesperson Brian Burke to tweet this image of the new Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU running the Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark earlier today. That's certainly one way to hit back at ATI's launch of the fastest graphics card ever, the Radeon HD 5970, but we'd much rather have some hard info to work with. We've pinged NVIDIA, we'll let you know if we hear anything.

the EMF from that combo would cause cancer in the whole neighborhood so hopefully it can also cure it and everyone comes out neutral? wait..confused???
first one to come out with the Chuck Norris GPU will have the everlasting title of champion..jus sayin'
That thing is XBOX HUEG
Im still using a Nvidia 5700LE. Lol now really I am.
I sooo need to upgrade
We'll see. It's good that there is competition. I've been happy with ATI for the last 2 years. The ATI 4850 pretty much was game changer when it was released price/performance wise. If Nvidia releases something great for a decent price it will be my next video card. I pretty much couldn't care less about which company makes the card, just if the card is good. Right now, ATI has my money.
Here is a link to the best GPU's you could buy at certain price points for september 09. I'm sure it has changed even more in favor of ATI since the release of the 5xxx series

after taking the effort to fake video cards before, Nvidia needs a real-world demonstration with real tech journalists watching... you can't keep fooling the world.
Show me a video and not a picture then I believe its running on a NVIDIA's Fermi-based GeForce card because how do we know that is running on that card really the monitor cable could be running some where else like on to a GTX280 or even a ATI 5870 and saying its running on a fermi based card sorry NVIDIA don’t believe you a video you plugging in the monitor cable in to that card and running the benchmark in DX11 and the info saying Fermi or GT300 then I believe you until then this is for thick people to say “WOW! Can’t get ATI know because I seen a picture and it must be true have to wait” come on NVIDIA pull your socks up!
Learn to use punctuation. We hate you.
what does that thing suck.... 750W ?
Just buy an XBOX 360 and a PS3 instead. PC games are dying, sadly this time it is true. Yea it has higher resolutions but games look really good on the consoles. Most games are ported to the PC so what is the point? Do you really need to play COD MW2 on your PC? They better find another use for these cards since most everyone finished Crysis by now. MS Flight Simulator is dead so what are you going to so with this? play warcraft??
Well, to be honest, the PS3 (Nvidia GPU) wouldn't have the graphics it has right now same goes for the Xbox 360 (ATI GPU) if these companies didn't have the competition they have in the PC market. It is still a viable market.
We've been hearing this for the longest time. Every single person I know says the pc versions look and play better than they do on consoles, and they should. I want to be able to do everything from my pc and not have to buy a console just to game and add more clutter. The spec requirements are increasing with every game release, so why wouldn't you upgrade if you can or want to. One size fits all is never good for the consumer.
Even if all PC games were console ports, I'd love to play them on my portable laptop. Can a console do that? Not counting Ben Heck. ; )
May PC gaming never die!
starcraft 2 will revive pc gaming!
They really need to fix the names. I have a G100, an OEM-only card, which happens to share the same name as the G100 core that powers some of their more flagship stuff (or at least used to, can't remember), and now we have the Geforce 100, which is probably 500x faster than the Geforce 256, which came out over 10 years ago. Way to go, guys.
I have been a PC gamer for 15 years but my current rig is running 4 year old agp tech and the cost of upgrading to a decent gaming PC is just too expensive. So I succumbed to the consoles and bought a xbox 360 for less than half the price it would have cost to get a PC to play the same games at same quality. It's a no brainer now.
Too expensive?
You can build a great system for $600 or less.
AMD X2 cpu/mobo ($60ish each) $120
4GB DDR2 $40
ATI 5750 $150
Hard drive/dvd burner $80
Case/power supply $100
Win7 Home Premium x64 $100
Also, compared to a PC, you can hardly do anything on a console. Console = gaming only, PC = gaming, work, web, etc. Tons of good games you can find free on PC but can not find at all or have to pay for on a console. PS3 you can browse the web on, but a PC will do a much better job and isn't limited to whatever a certain browser can do. Can't get any real work done on a console either.
(wish we could edit comments)
Ah, a voice of reason, I refuse to spend 2 to 4 grand on a PC just to play a handful of games.
Except it doesn't cost nearly $2000 to $4000 to have a gaming PC, lee. No wonder you see PC gaming is dying being the ignorant console gamer you are.
@Nathan But I just bought a 360 with two controllers and 4 games for £200. I already have a pc that does all the none gaming stuff you mention perfectly well, it's just not powerful enough for modern games.
So why spend £400 on a new pc to play games and other stuff if my current rig already does all the normal pc stuff fine and a 360 is less than £200?
@RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi)
Listen jerk jut because you are a PC Fanboy does not make you right. I was PC gamer probably before you were born. I have had more graphics cards then I can remember. I am tired of spending money because ATI is better now, than Nvidia is better over and over and over. I never have to spend a penny to upgrade my XBOX 360 or PS3 to play a game, I know when I put a game in it will not be choppy. You wanna blow money on GPU's be my guest. I get to spend my money on games instead of buying ram, upgrading CPU's and GPU's endlessly. One day you too will realize enough is enough until then peace. Oh yea Crysis sucks.
Where do they come up with these names?
They take the some big numbers, then stick x's on the end hey presto a card name...*sigh*
Perhaps we'll start seeing some external video cards to sit next to our external hard drives?
I'd love to know the specs ont he new nVidias. I'm no fanboy of ATI or nVidia - they both have issues - but both are the best to choose from. I'm ready to replace my video card but would like to know the specs of the nVidia before I invest $500 on a new card.
OR, you could not spend $500 and instead get yourself a perfectly good 4850.
Coldwave, thanks but I already have a 4870 and it isn't close to enough for Crysis. I'd like something that can at least do an adequate job with Crysis 3 and I doubt the 5870 will even fill that bill.
don't invest 500.... Spend 200 at max...
to all you guys complaining about the size of the thing, there is something called the Radeon 5870 which is actually slightly larger than this. and the 5890 is even bigger. and obviously, with 8 pin+6 pin power like in the picture it can't be using more than 300 watts (75 watts through the PCI-E slot and 75 watts from the 6 pin and 150 watts through the 8-pin). which again is about what the 5890 uses (295 watts to be exact).
er, that's 5970, not 5890
