Dell lets loose Studio 17 laptop with multitouch display
Dell sure is adding multitouch to quite a few products these days, but it isn't exactly doing it with much fanfare on every occasion. The latest to slip into availability is an updated version of the company's generously-sized Studio 17 laptop, which is now available with a 1,600 x 900 display that boasts full multitouch and arm-tiring abilities. Otherwise, you can expect to get the usual wide range of configuration options, including your choice of Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 Duo processors, a maximum 8GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, integrated Intel or discrete ATI graphics, and an optional Blu-ray drive, among other standard fare. Some of those options will obviously bump the price up considerably, but things start at just $899 -- look for it to start shipping on December 4th.

VetteDude, we have 3 Dell Laptops bought over the last 6 years (my Dell I9300 from '05, Oldest sons 1520, and son #2's Studio 15) all have discrete graphics. Geforce 6800 Go on mine, I thing 8500GT's on theirs. All game quite well. (mines running an overclocked CPU as well) (I buy the boys laptops when they graduated HS)
@jetninja Yes, but I am more looking at the Adamo XPS which is crippled with Intel graphics when the competitors to it use discrete graphics.
Hope the hinges on these things are durable. That's one reason I didn't really like convertable tablets, you push on them, then they bend back a bit, kinda messing up the resistance.
I might have to get one. Touch screen is just another input method like the keyboard and mouse. Each will have its place. Keyboard for typing in comments here, touchscreen for mapping software, etc. Also, the Studio 17 has a numeric keypad, which I use regularly.
Interestingly, you can't get the multi-touch display version with an i-7 processor, nor can you get the display in Full HD. You end up going down different customization paths based on if you want the multi-touch display.
Who will be the first to hack this into a 17" slate tablet? Ready, set,....
For folks that may be interested AnneatDell recently published a blog post about the Studio 17 multi-touch.

What the hell I just bought a Studio 17 like a month ago. Now it has multi-touch? :( FAIL.
