Android 2.1-equipped Motorola Sholes tablet spied in China as XT701?

No sooner do we get brief corner glimpses of the supposed Motorola Sholes tablet do we get tipped off to this writeup from Androidin.net which has a number of pictures of an eerily similar keyboard-less handset with a 3.7-inch screen, Android 2.1, FM radio, and interestingly enough, only a 5 megapixel camera -- last we heard it was going to be 8. Also debatable is a HDMI port, since the image that would show it is a tad too blurry. Otherwise, it seems to be about in line with what we expected, and it also seems destined for China Unicom as the XT701 (analogous to China Mobile's Motorola Android device). Now how about a few dashes of hope we'll see this stateside, eh Moto? Two more shots after the break.

I think it's time things stopped being so rigidly rectilinear. Preferably there would be a functional reason behind the odd shape, but still...it makes it interesting.

Motorola is actually launching 3 Android phones in China pretty soon.... See photo~ The rounder one (XT800, the one leaked in BGR) should have the 8m pixel camera + faster speed since that one is supposed to be the real flagship (not the XT701!)

I think i got the explanation for the bump...

AFAIK The Droid doesnt have a Xenon Flash , right ? (i'm from India so havent seen one yet) But this one does..

A Xenon Flash needs more space , so that ridge like bump has to be there to add space for the flash while not making the entire thing too thick...

This is not the Sholes Tablet. Is just a new device for China.
Sholes Tablet has HDMI port and 8.1MPx Xenon camera.

Lets just hope the silver trim meant pre production model, like Samsung omnia 2 i8000 all pre production models had a silver trim & the final release version was totally black.

I would prefer an 8 megapixel camera but could live with 5 megapixels because it was a xenon flash & I use have an i8000 but I still have a Nokia N82 5 megapixel xenon flash, & love the picture quality.

If this is the real deal, then they have changed the layout of the buttons at the bottom, as the back button on the Droid is first from the left, now 3rd on the Droid tablet.

I don't like the uneven back too much. Without a keyboard, it should be very thin and making the back level would allow more space to have a larger capacity battery, which I wouldn't be complaining about.

Still, I think I'd go for the Sony Ericsson X10 if it also got Android 2.1.

I prefer the look on the X10, but any smarphone (except running symbian s60 v5 hopfully symbian foundation will be better) that has a xenon flash is the one I want.

Please lets have an android phone with some usefull internal storage (atleast 4gb PLEASE)

1. Motorola Sholes Tablet should release / debut to US.
2. Motorola Sholes Tablet have 8 Mega Pixel Camera.
3. Motorola Sholes Tablet have UI Motorola Blur.
4. Motorola Sholes Tablet should not use the M logo but letter MOTOROLA.

Like my prediction. That's not Motorola Sholes Tablet but that's Motorola OPhone. Next year 2010 will release more than 8 Motorola OPhone.

Aha! Now if you 'kids' have done your homework you would realize that this and the HTC Bravo share alot of the same features. Is that competition I smell in the air? Me thinks so... =)
