LG first to hit mass production with Full HD 3D LCD monitors
The 3D revolution, whether you like it or not, is gathering steam. LG has just announced the world's first mass produced Full HD 3D-capable monitor, which spans 23 inches diagonally and looks to sport a pleasingly minimal bezel. The company hasn't spilled much in the way of further info yet, though the PR blurb (after the break) makes mention of Korea's plans to introduce Full HD 3D broadcasts, as well as satellite 3D broadcasting trials set to take place in the UK and Japan. Based on shutter glasses tech -- which seems likely to be the way forward -- this panel benefits from such great buzzwords as a "copper bus line" and a "high performance 3D exclusive controller," the benefits of which we'll have to wait a little while longer to discover. CES 2010, here we come.
LG Display Rolls Out 3D LCDs with Full HD Resolution
The World's First Mass Produced Full HD 3D LCD
Seoul, Korea (December 3, 2009) – LG Display Co., Ltd. [NYSE:LPL, KRX:034220], a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced the world's first commercial launch of 3D LCD panel boasting full HD resolution.
The new product is a 23-inch 3D monitor LCD panel for use with shutter glasses that delivers full HD resolution. It offers picture quality that is almost twice as crisp as HD 3D displays currently available in the market.
The panel adopts the company's proprietary technologies such as "high performance 3D exclusive controller" capable of processing more than twice as much image data as other HD 3D LCDs and "copper bus line" to improve on the resolution and picture quality. In addition, the panel is able to reproduce both 2D and 3D images, meaning that users can switch back and forth from 2D and 3D modes.
Although full HD 3D images have been developed for contents such as video games, movies and animations, 3D display products with full HD resolution were unavailable in the market. The commercial launch of LG Display's full HD 3D LCD panel is expected to help to boost development of high resolution 3D contents while allowing users to view true-to-life 3D images.
Mr. Davis Lee, LG Display's Vice President and head of IT marketing department, noted "LG Display has made a major breakthrough in the display industry race to deliver the depth and dynamic nature of 3D images. LG Display will continue with efforts to keep pace with the fast growing 3D market with leading 3D technology and products in order to create new value for customers."
The 3D display market is expected to grow at rapid pace as the industry players are shifting their focus from two- dimensional to three-dimensional technologies. The Korea Communications Commission recently announced plans to start a trial service for the world's first full HD 3D terrestrial broadcasting from the second half of 2010. A launch of trial services for 3D satellite broadcasts had been also announced earlier in Japan and the UK.

@nsawork Indeed.

do i see dog the bounty hunter?
Yeah, I assume they're using him to make fun of the 3D glasses.
Or maybe the product waif's expression. All 3 look kinda stupefied.
@(Unverified) DOG the Bounty Hunter is a big hit in Korea!
@(Unverified) Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed that first thing!
And whats with all the glasses? :P
@(Unverified)
I saw that too. I was like TV, cute girl... wait, is that Dog and his wife?
@(Unverified) Maybe - and he sees you.
@(Unverified)
Mrs Dog, whatever her name is in 3D??
BLETCH
@(Unverified)
LOL Great catch! Did not notice him at first!
@(Unverified) i thought Dog was in jail
@BrianAThomas
Which one's Dog?
Is there a point by editing the original picture and putting Dog in there???
@(Unverified) Yes: it's funny.
@(Unverified) Vladislav is simply trying to show us how tech fanatic Mr. & Mrs. Dog are. Enough to wear their 3D glasses everyday.
@(Unverified)
Looks like he's future proofed with those shades he's already sporting.
@(Unverified)
yes, somethings are better behind the monitor
Dear LCD Manufacturers,
"3D" is cool and everything.... but what we really want is a wireless HDMI revolution as an incentive to drop major cash for a new LCD TV or Monitor and get rid of our old sets.
1080p? I fell for this one!
120hz? meh
3D? can live without.
Wireless HDMI? Now you're talkin!
K. Thnx. Bye
Sincerely, We The People
@Eternity Do not want.
@Eternity Kinda agree with you. 3d as of now is just a gimmick and I see no reason to invest in a Tv worth 1000's of $'s which is being sold on prototype tech.
I'd rather invest in something that offers better picture (cheaper LED's, OLED), better sound or something that minimizes the cables and to which you do not have to plug in a dozen different boxes to play basic things.
Btw how does W-Hdmi work in practice? Even 720p h264 results in lag and dropped frames over wifi (N) for me :(. If its something similar with W-Hdmi then its not really worth the trouble.
@Eternity
Signed.
The rest of the people.
@Eternity
Wait, so you wouldn't want the convenience of streaming your media from your PS3 in your bedroom to the big ass tv in the living room? Or better yet wirelessly displaying your phone in 720p/full 1080p glory from your couch to your big LCD? at your house or a friends house or just about anywhere?
I'd choose that over this any day! the novelty factor of watching things in "3D" and wearing those dorky glasses is going to wear off eventually. At least for me...
*ooops that was for @r3loaded

According to her the technology is ready. Also, she said that although this Philips external one is aesthetically pleasing, usually those kinds of gadgets look like "they are made in Russian prison camps" (at 1:22). Thus, we can conclude that a built in option is better because in Soviet Russia reviewers are sexier than their gadgets.
@Eternity
I agree.
They cant its not possible; cause Sony has already done this to the LED edge light XBR 10.
I would pay the price for a monitor like that.
@Eternity
Who cares about wireless HDMI? Do you have so many possible receivers for a HDMI signal you can't run cables to all of them? It has no mass appeal. Joe bloggs doesn't care that he has to run a cable from his blueray player 30cm to the TV, but he certainly will care when the wireless signal gets interrupted and his screen goes blank for a second.
If it's big enough to be worth watching HD video on you can run a Cat6 to it.
I would buy it if not the GOOGles...:(
They are annoying and easy to lose.
oh the dirty things i would do to that chick in the middle
@EI8HT
Get yourself one of those LCD's
Chicks like TOTALLY dig 3D glasses!
Trust me, she will love watching pr0n in 3D while you hit it.
@EI8HT
If im not mistaken, there are only 2 chicks, both on the sides. the one in the middle looks like a dude to me...
Or whichever way u may wanna swing...
@(Unverified)
Think that was the joke; which you clearly missed
@(Unverified) speaking of the dude, that looks like hulk hogan, yeaaah!!!!
I predict a massive failure approaching with the huge marketing push of 3D. I don't care how much better it is than the "old 3D". The mass market will not adopt glasses in every home. Go out to your local theater and see a movie in 3D. Total. Gimmick.
@paradigm
How lame are you. You see everything in the world in 3d. What makes you think your entertainment to be limited to 2d...
"It offers picture quality that is almost twice as crisp as HD 3D displays currently available in the market."
Ummmm...am I missing something?
I hate this Full HD scam. There are 10 year old CRTs with higher resolution than most of these screens.
@Kurian I agree, its sad that people think 1080P is the best you can get in any monitor, and now 1920x1200 is being killed in monitors in favor of 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 in favor of 2560x1400. > : (
@Kurian - yepp, i have a Compaq P1220 that can rock 2048 x 1536 / 75 Hz, i added an HDfury chip to port B and it takes 'full HD' in it's stride.
@(Unverified)
Yo, LG, I'm happy for you, I'ma let you finish... but 16:10 is the best aspect ratio of all time! OF ALL TIME!
Glad to see Dog and his wife could make it. Looks like they are enjoying the 3D effects too... Nice shades Dawg....
@They call me Tim
LOL
I didn't see them the first time I looked at the pic, then I happened to skim past it again and had a good chuckle.
what I want to know is why is Dog the bounty hunter and his wife doing in the background :-) http://www.dogthebountyhunter.com/
If it still use/need Glasses than is not enough for mass popularity. Simply look at beautiful asian model, the glasses just ruin it.
Tried this out, initially it's impressive then the novelty wears off quickly. The 3D effect isn't that useful and I preferred playing the game without 3D.
@squid I heard that with the original Left 4 dead some people got a 3D version working, then when combined with a novint falcon feedback gun controller it was unbelievably immersive. That could be the future of PC gaming while consoles head for motion control.
AHAHAHAHAHA!!! the article pic, oh man.....
Are you guys really that stupid? It's clearly photoshopped :p
@Dakk
are you really that stupid to think that we are really that stupid? of course it's photoshop'd, stupid!
I Love when they photoshop funny stuff into the pictures. keeps you on your toes.
Ze Goggles Zey Do Nozzink!!!!!
Dog loves him some 3D.
