LG first to hit mass production with Full HD 3D LCD monitors
The 3D revolution, whether you like it or not, is gathering steam. LG has just announced the world's first mass produced Full HD 3D-capable monitor, which spans 23 inches diagonally and looks to sport a pleasingly minimal bezel. The company hasn't spilled much in the way of further info yet, though the PR blurb (after the break) makes mention of Korea's plans to introduce Full HD 3D broadcasts, as well as satellite 3D broadcasting trials set to take place in the UK and Japan. Based on shutter glasses tech -- which seems likely to be the way forward -- this panel benefits from such great buzzwords as a "copper bus line" and a "high performance 3D exclusive controller," the benefits of which we'll have to wait a little while longer to discover. CES 2010, here we come.
LG Display Rolls Out 3D LCDs with Full HD Resolution
The World's First Mass Produced Full HD 3D LCD
Seoul, Korea (December 3, 2009) – LG Display Co., Ltd. [NYSE:LPL, KRX:034220], a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced the world's first commercial launch of 3D LCD panel boasting full HD resolution.
The new product is a 23-inch 3D monitor LCD panel for use with shutter glasses that delivers full HD resolution. It offers picture quality that is almost twice as crisp as HD 3D displays currently available in the market.
The panel adopts the company's proprietary technologies such as "high performance 3D exclusive controller" capable of processing more than twice as much image data as other HD 3D LCDs and "copper bus line" to improve on the resolution and picture quality. In addition, the panel is able to reproduce both 2D and 3D images, meaning that users can switch back and forth from 2D and 3D modes.
Although full HD 3D images have been developed for contents such as video games, movies and animations, 3D display products with full HD resolution were unavailable in the market. The commercial launch of LG Display's full HD 3D LCD panel is expected to help to boost development of high resolution 3D contents while allowing users to view true-to-life 3D images.
Mr. Davis Lee, LG Display's Vice President and head of IT marketing department, noted "LG Display has made a major breakthrough in the display industry race to deliver the depth and dynamic nature of 3D images. LG Display will continue with efforts to keep pace with the fast growing 3D market with leading 3D technology and products in order to create new value for customers."
The 3D display market is expected to grow at rapid pace as the industry players are shifting their focus from two- dimensional to three-dimensional technologies. The Korea Communications Commission recently announced plans to start a trial service for the world's first full HD 3D terrestrial broadcasting from the second half of 2010. A launch of trial services for 3D satellite broadcasts had been also announced earlier in Japan and the UK.

So what are the chances that we'll see some guy wearing his 3D glasses everywhere as some kind of fashion statement, like in Back to The Future?
And where are the pictures of the geeky couch potato wearing his 3D glasses over top his prescription glasses? Oh yeah. That would kill the 3D push as fast as Divx DVD players from Circuit City.
Think you dont need glasses any more after LASIK?
Think AGAIN!
Dog's appearance is just a reference to his glasses, don't try to think too hard about it. :)
Also, the guy who would do nasty things to "the chick in the middle"...
*counts*
Model, Dog, Wife...
Um...to each his own?
That's an awesome photoshop
You know what would be 10 kinds of awesome? If Dog the Bounty Hunter advertised for Consumer Electronics Equipment.
lets start a business of making prescription 3d glasses. I sense a multi million dollar idea.
@danhawk911
That's a great idea actually...
Also for us who don't wear glasses normally, If i had my own pair of custom 3d glasses, i'd be much more inclined to want to wear them.
Heck yea! "Dog" must be there to pick up the bounty for manufacturer's not having these out yet. I wanna know something....what about people with glasses? Have companies even considered the fact that many people w/ prescription glasses can't even see "3D" television and movies. If it's not the fit of the glasses, it's the design and each eye's ability to adjust to the image. My son has this problem and a couple other people I know share the same experience. That has the potential to eliminate a pretty substantial number of you demography. Ah who cares! Well by then only the best of the best (richest) will have one of these watching the end of the world in 2012. While the peons are scurrying....at least we'll be on tv in 3d right?
wheres waldo
@dwight
thats exactly what I was thinking
is there a reason i cannot have normal monitors with bezels that small?
big bezels is keeping me from mutli screen viewing.
Dog & Beth live in a 3D world; they never take their glasses off.
I just haven't seen 3D look good yet.
I am holding out for a full 3D holographic display. Maybe my own holodeck.
I think we are all yearning for an UPDATE on why Dog The Bounty Hunter is in the photo.
