AMD readying a demo of the Blu-ray 3D standard, might not wait for it to exist first
AMD and CyberLink, which recently integrated SENSIO 3D technology into its PowerDVD player, are already touting a 2010 CES demo promising to show off their implementation of "the forthcoming Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard." While the world continues to wait for an announcement on what the 3D Blu-ray standard will actually entail (backwards compatible 2D combo discs, and Full HD stereoscopic technology are definitely on the list) AMD is ready to leverage its position as a contributing member of the Blu-ray Disc Association and make sure that when discs hit the market -- likely around the time Avatar is released at home -- it has compatible software and hardware available. We've prepped and ready for the glasses-required trials that promise to be featured at many booths during next months Las Vegas experience, so a note to potential exhibitors: sports and videogames are the best bet for an impressive 3D showing, bring Space Harrier 3D for extra bonus points.

next month?!! I'd better find my giant foam CES finger and prepare!!
well it's about time
Lol, that unit has "adapter" misspelled.
I've found ThirdMagazine.com to be a pretty good source for 3D industry news like this.
...it's crazy to think we might get 3D next year while I am still trying to figure out what I will need for it to work. About to buy a TV and all those non-standart-information out there aren't helping (120Mhz or not. Special input on TV only found by certain companies and so forth).
They better decide soon or I'll buy my TV that's not compatible, therefore I won't jump on board the 3D-train for a while!
@Maschkenator Unless you are willing to hold off buying a TV for 2 or 3 years I wouldn't be too put out. There is no content, no set top boxes, no compatible TVs. Even when a full end to end standard appears it will take half a year for hardware to appear that implements it and another generation or two of hardware to implement it properly.
@Maschkenator Current 120hz panels only provide a special effect / post processing. Their HDMI cannot actually accept a 120hz signal necessary for high quality 3D gaming and other 60fps mono / 120fps stereo content. Also, keep in the mind entire screen has to have a refresh rate fast enough to completely wipe the screen between each frame, one hundred and twenty times per second. The Samsung 2233rz works well, but I can't wait for a 3D TV that works with my NVIDIA glasses. Currently, only DLP HDTVs work with standardized shutter glasses.
Considering movies don't run at 60fps, I'm hoping new 3D BluRay players will allow me to use my Samsung LN40A650 and do the shutter glass sync through the BR player instead of the TV. :p
I still have those glasses around here somewhere! Sega 3d Shutter glasses for the Master System.
So not only will we see 3D on PCs, but possibly handheld devices as well if/when the portable devices have displays that can handle it?
If it needs glasses, I'll never buy it. I'm not buying 10 pairs of glasses just in case I have a party and want to show a 3D movie.
