HTC Bravo pictured more lucidly (Update: coming to US in January as HTC Passion)
We realize we might have overfed you a little with that plentiful leak of HTC's 2010 plans, so here's a chance to better ogle and digest HTC's "Performance" flagship to be: the Bravo. Pairing Android with Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon and presenting a 3.7-inch AMOLED facade, this certainly ticks the headline boxes, and the addition of a five megapixel AF cam capable of 720p video capture gives it an extra sheen of 2010 newness. The picture above is accompanied by less solid info indicating a 1,400mAh battery, which will be joined by the mandatory WiFi, Bluetooth and MicroUSB connectivity, plus MicroSD expansion, FM radio tuner, digital compass, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Then again, the source is the same bunch of heroes responsible for our extra early -- and accurate -- info on the HD2, so those specs may be considered pretty reliable. Oh, if you're wondering about the touchscreen, it's capacitive, like it should be.
Update: If you were wondering about the difference between the Bravo and the recently leaked Passion, there is none other than the branding apparently. We're also hearing that the above handset will be available in the US in January, a cool three months ahead of the expected European release.

Does anyone know if this beast is going to come out anywhere near January 12, 2009? My contract is going to end and I might be getting it. Also, will this be out for Verizon?
@chrisrobhay2
January 2009, does that mean you're commenting from 2008?
I'm holding out for the HD2.....this is nice.
looks like its going to verizon =/ http://www.htcpassion.com/
@jays0n1 I don't think Verizon would register a domain name via NameCheap.com nor use WhoisGuard to protect their data. At least not based on a whois of Verizon.com but who knows, I suppose it's possible...
@fescen9 I didnt take notice to that, you're probably right and i hope you are cuz that leaves a chance for it to be coming to tmo =)
@jays0n1
this site has been up for months and been refuted... its a fan site
@jays0n1 sorry bud that's been proven fake
I say we all give jays0n1 a big round of thanks for the info.
I sure hope this DOESN'T come out for Verizon. I signed up for Verizon to get the Droid/Eris and just my luck, zero bars of signal in my house and 1 outside on my patio. Needless to say, the phones are going back for two reasons now; no signal and Bravo is the Droid I want. Plus I don't see how this particular model would be Verizon anyway as it clearly states the GSM frequencies, and none of which are 1700MHz, ruling out T-Mobile... Am I missing something here with everyone speculating Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint? Also, how does Engadget know it'll be released in the States in January? The referenced articles doesn't state that...
Canada please (in the first quarter 2010)!!
I don't care which carrier. Just pick one!
Love it!
Come 3G for AT&T, I'll be sold!
Where's the Android notification bar? Removed from the render to reduce fugliness?
@TareG
The notification bar looks nice on Sense, much better than stock Android.
Faaaackk!!! My Droid would arrive at my door tomorrow. Should I reject it and send it back to Verizon and save the "Upgrade" for this toy? It seems to have or surpass verything the Droid does, except some of the quality that Moto has been having (durable, loud speak, U.S. made, etc.)
@PhiQuanTu
Im in the same position as you. The thing sucks is it can come out next month or three months from now. Just look at the Omnia 2
As a current Verizon phone owner, I really hope this DOESN'T go to Verizon, service is trash. Calls get dropped or don't even come through half the time. Plus the plans are expensive.
I think Sprint or even T-Mo would be a much better choice of carrier.
Regardless of what carrier gets this and some of the other phones set to drop in 2010, HTC is really doin' it big. props for that.
Please go to all Carriers. This way there will be a price war for the phone, just like TP2
The Passion is coming to T-Mobile first then Verizon. It's definitely NOT coming to ATT, they're still too busy with apple to care about it anyways.
A LOT of T-Mobile USA employee’s lately have been hinting about this phone in my area and a few people online have been confirming this also so this is Very Promising. = D
@SParklingCYaNide
man that would be dope. If this phone would be on T-Mo or Sprint it's a instant cop for me.
man, I should have waited 4 months - I like my Hero, but I think I would love this Bravo. There's never a right time to get a gadget! ugh!
cool, i hope it comes to UK soon.
@albgeek I spoke to Orange earlier and the lass told me they're expecting the Bravo in March, a month of testing then a possible release in April. By then, the next best phone will be on the horizon!
@elliott20 oh that is frustrating, in UK we get screwed for everything delays and price............. i wanna move to hong kong = tech heaven
Awersome!
Hah, DROID does but WE are HTC :-)
Luckily I decided against Droid in knowledge that HTC will spawn a snapdragon phone between Q4/09 and Q1/10. And now if comes with AMOLED on top. THATS XMAS!
I think Verizon needs to ditch the new every two and let us get a new phone every year.
ATT lets you get the new iphone every year for the discount price.
With the rapid pace that these phones are coming out it's not fair to make us wait 2 YEARS to get a new phone!
that chin the passion has is pretty hot.
My 2 year SERO contract is drawing to a close, and if Sprint doesn't get this phone, I'll probably switch to whatever carrier does...
@aleafinwater Also, there's this funny piece on amazon:
they're selling the car charger for the HTC Passion already!?!? weirdos!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/9983752050/?ie=UTF8&tag=invihand-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957
its about damn time verizon started getting good phones!
This fine piece of machinery is a thing of beauty indeed.
Just wish it was a larger screen.
I'm normally a hardware keyboard kinda guy, but I would've made the jump to a keyboardless touchscreen version if it was closer to 4.3 like the HD2.
I was really, really, REALY hopin' that the Dragon/Passion was gonna be the EXACT HD2 equivalent, everything the same specs-wise (except for android OS of course)--screen size included.
So I'll probably get the droid or hold out for something better...
But no doubt, there's a lot to like about this still.
HTC knows their SH--
Folks, can someone help me out here? I just returned the iPhone after 30 days of phone heaven / dropped-call hell. Picked up an HTC Hero (and hope that I can switch back to Verizon within a month to get the Passion). Here's the thing: I've spent hours googling all over the place trying to find a way to do frequent, comprehensive searches within contacts...person's name, company, notes, etc. But it seems the People app only allows contact searches of the name field. I tried a couple of 3rd party apps but they're buggy. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a good solution before I run back to blackberry? Really appreciate any help you can offer.
Someone posted a link on xda-develpers.com that it's going to T-Mobile...
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2121&c=t-mobile_bravo_htc_bravo
considering the roadmap leaked on Dec. 6th says "T-mobile Natco Day" right on the pic of the device on the roadmap, it sure makes sense. It is going to T-Mobile Europe for sure, it's just nobody knows if it's coming to T-Mobile USA. As the Digitimes article listed, the Bravo coming in January to the US is a GSM device because of the Snapdragon 8250 chip being used in it.
"The Bravo, which will be powered by a Snapdragon QDS 8250 1GHz CPU, eventually will debut in the US market in January 2010 under the trade name of Passion before being marketed by T-Mobile under the Bravo in Europe in April 2010, the paper said."
@slumpey
the bands UMTS 850/1900 on that site listed under the passion are att bands, not tmobile bands
sorry forgot the link
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2120&c=htc_passion_htc_bravo
Oh SWEET!! Coming to AT&T UMTS bands!
http://htcpassion.com/
@jawtab
website doesn't load
I bought a Hero a day after this was posted. I was on the site and read this like damn.. I shouldnt have upgraded. but then again i was like wait a sec I have 30 days to play with it. So thats the plan.. and hopefully sprint will get this or a version of it and im sold. I really want the HD2 running android but who knows if that will ever happen. Doubtful
no front camera
;-(
it seems the x10 is the only snapdragon android with one, but then the x10 does not play divx or xvid ! aaaaaaurrrrggghhhh......
God I cant Wait
are any htc android phones coming to att in the near future?
so...above description says that this is the same phone as "passion" which is...nexus one. so does that mean bravo is nexus one and that htis phone basically came out? how come the hardware looks different compare to nexus one?
Cool enough, but how does it compares to the Nexus One?
And what version of Android will it pack?
And Sense UI?
I'm getting confused, I am deeply in love with my Hero (EU version) and I resisted (and I'm still actively resisting) the impulse of buying the Milestone because I decided to wait for the Nexus One, but now I'm not sure anymore: what's the pinnacle of Android incarnations?
The Nexus One, the Milestone (which is the Droid with multitouch) or this Passion/Bravo ?
Doesn't HTC know that to confuse its clientele is widely considered a bad marketing move ?
So its Jan 23rd and no word of this phone coming even in the next few months let alone Jan. What a bunch of crap. Save the rumors please.
