Still haven't gotten that
Android 2.0.1 OTA update on your Droid? You're not alone (most people are still waiting for 2.0 on their Android handset, you self-centered power user, you), but luckily there's a simple solution. Basically you just have to manually download the update file, copy it to an SD card and restart your Droid while tapping out a simple succession of hardware keys. You can check out the "detailed" and "badass" versions of the instructions at the two respective source links below.
@boisvert00
That's how it always was. Touch or swipe. Your choice. Same to close the apps drawer.
************IMPORTANT**********
When downloading the update make sure you right-click and "save as" update.zip
When I first simply downloaded in firefox and XP and the renamed the file I got corruption during the update process. The second time I downloaded this way and saved as update.zip with good results.
@H2B
Worked fine for me with just a single-click.
Just to let everyone know - Once you get to the "!" screen, you press and hold the + volume button first, and then press the camera button. Not at the same time as the article seems to indicate. Hope this helps!
@Athazagoraphobia
I just pushed down both at the same time and released, worked ok.
Works great...but a couple of my shortcuts "broke". I couldn't hear anything on phone calls, and couldn't even open my Gallery app (got an error.) Had to drag both my Gallery and Phone shortcuts into the trash, then re-apply them to my home page. Kinda freaked me out for a few minutes, but all is normal again.
@Flubnut
Same here. A phone call went through fine, then three went silent, no sound either way except in spearkerphone. Reboot fixed it, and will hopefully stay fixed.
I found downloading a ZIP application from the Android app store helped alot, then the Droid recognized the zip file type. If you do download from your phone, the file is saved in the downloads folder of your SD card, and you will have to move it so it is not in any folders. Then you can proceed in doing this update.
Personally, I liked the old lock screen.
So, this is my first time to this site, but I can't seem to find the link to manually update...? Am I just missing it? I know the VZW says that it should automatically popup, or that you can go to "About Phone" and check there, but it's telling me the system is up-to-date, even though I still just have 2.0. I know that when I had the G1, I got an automatic update at one point, but I'm impatient for this update on my Droid...
Updated manually. Seems to work ok, I've had a little weirdness with the power widget (when I removed and readded it, it was just a solid black bar, no icons on it. Reboot fixed it). I also had to reset up my Facebook link. Other than, everything seems to work well. Seems a little faster, haven't tried anything else yet, will test out tomorrow and Friday.
Holy crap. Just applied this update, it's much better.
Nobody mentioned the calendar. The calendar now looks awesome. It used to be sort of an ugly sore spot on the OS, but now it looks sweet. Also a lot of the native control apps (like power control widget) look much nicer with larger buttons.
Everything seems much better.
Unfortunately for me, still shitty service in my house. like 100 feet of my neighborhood get bad service because we're in the middle of a tiny 'valley,' and ... still the same. I know that an update couldn't possibly fix this, but I was hoping by some miracle it did.
Hm, still didn't fix the error where if you have 5-bars of wifi and 1 bar of service, it'll still occassionally default to going on the service connection than the wifi. My iPhone did the same and it's super annoying. So if I have no cell service, even if I have wifi, 50% of the time it'll still try to connect with the phone... unless I altogether put on airplane mode and turn on Wifi, which is a pain, but then I can't get calls. My iPhone did the same, as does my friend's, but it's annoying on the Droid too.
Im going to wait to get mine from Verizon OTA . This guy got his and posted a video .. I dont know how they did the selection I guess it was random
here the video

I did the manual upgrade. Haven't tried everything yet, but all appears to be fine. If you upgrade this way, be careful of the D-pad selection... This was the only part of the upgrade that almost wiped my phone memory, had I not been paying attention; the D-pad on (my device) is quite sensitive, and I had to hit it dead center to make a selection from the firmware menu, or else it will quickly move to another menu item and select that instead, so be careful! Other than that, I found the process to be very straight forward.
So.. can I use this method for my Samsung Moment which has Android 1.5? If not, is there ANY way I can upgrade to 2.0 to at least 1.6?
@BobbyTheNinja
Yes, if you want to brick your phone.
This is a phone specific update.
Took less than 5 minutes to update and phone runs much quicker and smoother now...
I'm having issue with my wi-fi and bluetooth after updating to 2.0.1. Bluetooth won't turn on. wi-fi is turned on but can't connect to my wireless router as I used to in 2.0 :(. Anybody is having the same issue? I've run the update 3 times hoping that it would resolve the issue but no luck so far...HELP!! Also is there a way to downgrade to 2.0? I'm thinking of downgrading to 2.0 if possible and waiting for the official upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Got my OTA update tonight and am very pleased with thr changes. Definitely feels snappier. Let's see if it means less rebooting.
running 2.0.1. and rooted. awesome.
I received the update massage last night so i click okay... my phone has not started back up, it keeps showing the M then droid comes up on the screen, every once in a while the eye comes up, but it always restarts. I read it would take awhile to restart after the update... but this started at 12 am
Not getting E-mail notifications or updates since my manual upgrade.
@solo it'll kick in after a reboot. now DROOOOIIID!!! sounds super clear.
I received my 2.0.1 update last night (12/10) via OTA. I received a notification pop-up at around 12:15am informing me it was available and prompting for permission to install.
The only obvious UI change was that the slide to unlock is now a line instead a curve. The system definitely seems snappier now.
Well I've definately noticed a speed update (the notification pane in particular is much smoother) and possibly a battery life improvement. I'll have to use more to confirm though.
Got the update just now.
The new unlock screen is way better in my opinion, and the sleeker system widgets is a huge plus. Scrolling from one home screen to another seems smoother as well. Hopefully this also fixed the constant freezing that my phone undergoes, then the DROID would be perfect in my eyes.
Beware the SD Card memory wipe that's begun ever since the update. It happened to me twice this weekend. Really hope someone finds the root cause. I'm suspecting some incompatibility with the Slacker app, wiping everything when clearing cache. Anyone else have ideas?
