Ooo, PineTrail. I might have to get one of these. I was waiting for PineTrail.
@VetteDude You should wait for tegra 2 as well.
@jol
Tergra is ARM. Pine Trail is x86.
Tegra goes in phones and smart books.
Pine Trail goes in netbooks.
You can't run normal windows off of an ARM processor. You'd have to be running Windows CE.
@Delta
Linux
@JeremyBenthem
Maybe I'm missing something, but chances are someone with a Windows logo as their avatar isn't going to be running linux on their netbook.
Matter of time.
@Delta I don't mind Linux actually, but I like Windows better ;)
@VetteDude
Haha! More like Shcmindows! Snap!
@jol he new netbooks also include 1GB of RAM, a 160 or 250GB hard drive with Windows 7 Starter Edition pre-installed, a 3-cell or 6-cell battery. With a tag of 320USD, Is it worth it: http://bit.ly/hp-mini-210-factor
btw, tegra is not equal to x86 proc. like the ones on a netbook (intel pinetrail)
@JeremyBenthem
More like Kleenex.
Damn you windows 7 starter!
@daytripper
"Starter Features
Microsoft removed the 3 application limit that initially made it look like Starter Edition was more of a crippled product and it now has the typical Paint, Notepad, Calculator, Windows Fax and Scan, WordPad, Windows Firewall, Windows Search, and Windows Backup.
It includes the basic game package of FreeCell, Hearts, Minesweeper, Purple Palace, Solitaire, and Spider Solitaire. It has the updated components of XPS View, User Account Control (which is much less alloying in all versions of Windows), Parental Controls, Windows ReadyDrive, and IE8.
This is just the basics, no Aero interface (but then XP doesn’t have that either), and things like a media player and DVD burner you’ll have to download from the web or buy (which most seem to do anyway). Starter is just a clean basic OS and, if you want more, for a marginal charge you can upgrade it in place to Windows 7 premium and get all those features you didn’t know you were going to miss back."

@Michael Scrip
Windows 7 Starter also features lack of standard features such as changing wallpapers and themes, which has been a standard feature of xp and every other OS!
@OCEAN CLAK
Wallpaper... with a screen so small you'll probably be running your programs maximized.
Themes... yeah XP had themes.... but how many people switched to the simple "Windows Classic" theme? Or left it "Fisher Price" blue?
I'm sure Microsoft did this to try to sell people on upgrading to Windows 7 Home... I can almost hear the Geek Squad sales pitch now.
But in all honesty... it's a netbook. Who cares. Wipe off W7 Starter and install your pirated copy of XP if that makes you feel better.
@Michael Scrip
my copies of XP, windows 7 ultimate are all legal
@Michael Scrip
Nice, thanks.
Are blue covers also the new norm? WTF is going on here?
Netbook manufacturers are killing the spec with windows 7 starter. I mean seriously, 3 apps at once only, no media player/dvd support, etc... Why cant they just ship it with either linux or windows 7 home premium? The only reason people are buying these is the new processor.
@The REAL Lol
Why did Microsoft even MAKE Windows 7 Starter?
@The REAL Lol
You can use more than 3 apps now.
You'd want VLC or some other media player anyway...
@Michael Scrip
3 App limit never made it to market.
There's some nonsense about not being able to change the desktop background, but the OS pretty much functions as normal. It's an easy way for OEMs to keep costs down, just like using XP used to be. Expect the trend to keep up.
Looks good so long as they can keep the battery from bulging out the bottom.
No thanks. 311 and ION for me.
On a similiar note, it's funny that a year ago, HP was releasing the 1000 model, while now it's the 210.
Seriously, who's gonna consider this when ION-packing netbooks are floating around.
the Ion netbooks are still hindered by awful Atom cpu's, lack of RAM and other features. I still have yet to see anything that beats the Acer Aspire TImeline 1810TZ for the features and money.
well, seeing as how the only 311 with any decent battery life has a revolting bulge, i hope they can stick that 6 cell in it flush, these are the best looking netbooks around imo but i would never buy one cause of the terrible battery life. Waiting patiently for specs on battery life 6+ hours with a flush battery and im sold.
I have no use for a netbook, but I really like the colour!
Put an Atom D510 with ION 2 inside and I'll buy it.
Now every page on engadget has 12 netbooks that are exactly the same as the other one, how about a weekly roundup like:
The following netbooks with the exact same specs were announced this week: asus msi hp dell yuangyum(fictional feneric chinese brand) toshiba fujitsu samsung etc. etc.
If I were to get one, it would essentially be a blog/e-mail/YouTube machine. I wouldn't be MAKING any videos but I would most likely be watching.
Are any of these netbooks capable of handling long flash videos without choking the system?
