We've
alluded to this a couple times already, but
Boy Genius Report is coming out today and saying that
Verizon's webOS launch devices early next year will indeed be called the "Pre Plus" and "Pixi Plus." We're able to independently confirm that this is the intel out in the field right now -- so unless Big Red calls an audible, these are the names you should be keeping an eye on as you're scanning the shelves. The report goes on to say that Verizon's models are the same size as Sprint's, but as we've already seen in the FCC, these new versions are going to be supercharged in one way or another -- at the very least, the Pixi should have WiFi on board, a welcome boost. Any way you slice it, it sure looks like Sprint got the short end of this stick, doesn't it?
Pixi + WiFi and better processor = very hot
pre plus sounds like prepuce
I WANT THEM TO PUT IN THE F***ING SIM TOOLKIT IN THIS ONE!!! GODDAMNIT!!!
So I should assume that you are going to be forced into some stupid data plan with both of these phones???
If so, screw that.
While I love the bar-style form factor and full keyboard of the Pixi, I sure as hell ain't payin ~$80/mo for a phone plan when pretty much any time that I might want to surf the net I'd probably be within wi-fi range.
@Hazdaz
Well on Sprint it's more like $60/month and if you can't handle that I don't know what to say. You've got to pay to play man...
I don't think Sprint is losing any sleep over this, they've had the Pre for over 6 months already. And who says Sprint won't be getting an upgraded version too?
What "plus" will the Pre have? Acceptable battery life? Bareable OS speeds? Such a joke.
The Palm Pre is now very fast and battery life is awesome.
I just updated my Palm Pre phone with the new webOS 1.3.5 upgrade - just released (Dec 28, 2009) about two days ago. The phone is now extremely fast and the battery now lasts the whole day.
The speed is now about 3 to 10 times faster depending on what you are doing.
As for the battery, heavy usage now gives me about 8 hrs and 20 minutes. That is, if you light up the screen like a flash light and run multiple applications at the same time. So you can spend hours on the Web and still make it through a full day.
Using my Palm Pre phone moderately like listening to a few hours of music, after about 9 hours, my battery is still about 50% charged. So for light usage, I no longer need to charge my phone every day.
Conclusion: Palm has finally fixed the battery and performance issue. The Palm Pre may now be one of the fastest smartphone on the market and may simply have the longest battery life. So it took Palm about 6 months to fix these issues, but it is better late than never. I am so happy, it makes using the phone fun!
leaving the sprint models to be called the mediocre trim models
@artshark
I don't know what phone you are using, but I have owned the Palm Pre for over 6 months with Sprint, and I quite frankly am pleased with the phone and service.
When you buy a car, even if it is 3 years old, you do not lose sleep if a new model comes out, do you? Most people keep their phones for 2 years, and in that time frame they expect newer models to come out. Why should I be displeased if a better model comes to Verizon, I have enjoyed my phone for 6 months while Verizon's customers had to wait. The faster - newer models come out, the better it will be for all of us. So let us be happy for the folks at Verizon and not mock those at Sprint.
At Precentral.com, they learned that the Pre Plus is getting voice activation/dialing leaving us first pre users in the cold.
@Gator352,
I also own the Palm Pre and I do not feel "left out" in the cold. Look at all the updates we have been getting from Palm, and also the new updates that are planned. Let us be happy for the folks at Verizon. It is good to know that Palm is also willing and able to make changes/updates to the phone's hardware in only a few months, and not just webOS software updates. I too like getting the latest and greatest, but in life it is good to be patient.
The PP?
Damn! Companies have to relearn that an additive naming scheme is destructive. What will the first Pre and Pixi be called? Pre and Pixi FIRST? Normal? regular? plain? vanilla?
Same problem with the MacBook...
