Acer Aspire One AO532h joins the Pine Trail party with a $299 pricetag

It's about time that the number one netbook manufacturer officially release details on its Pine Trail packing netbooks. The 10-inch Acer Aspire One A0535h seems to look slightly different than its predecessors, but its brand new Intel Atom N450 CPU, GMA 1350 graphics and promised 10 hours of battery life should give it bragging rights at the family dinner table. The rest of the specs are standard fare – Windows 7 Starter, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and a 4,400 mAh six-cell battery. We're impressed that Acer has seemed to finagle a $299 price tag, undercutting most of the competition -- including the $380 Pine Trail Eee PC 1005PE -- by at least $50. It should be available in the coming weeks, but in the meantime you can check the full PR after the break or start searching for that Amazon pre-order page.

That tiny battery, Intel graphics, and Win7 STARTER really makes the difference. Will they pay me pay me to get one?
@(Unverified) i'm waiting for either kickass netbook with ion2 or a kickass tablet with tegra2. End of january we'll know.
@doutorpiranha
Yeah, well, over a year ago Ion 1 was announced, and I said I'd wait for Ion to do gaming, multimedia, and rendering work with Expression Studio.
I waited a year until November of this year to see Ion arrive.
I'm tempted to see Ion 2's notes and wait again, but you know what?
It'll probably be another six months at the minimum, and even Atom 330 doesn't fully drive Ion 1's capabilities, so it's not like N450 will, either.
My recommendation?
Grab yourself a 1201n and smile.
@(Unverified)
And doesn't the new Inspiron Mini start at 299 as well?
@Shidell First gen of anything always takes longer than second gen. Also if u wanna be more precise, you should seek how intel played a role in delaying mass intro of ion...
Intel is a cancer.
@Unverified User getting a job helps ^_^
@BigD145 The Aspire One netbooks have a 10.1-inch CrystalBrite, LED-backlit display, offering a broader viewing area for Web page navigation and data input. They also utilize a Multi-Gesture Touchpad, allowing users to pinch, flick and swirl their fingers across the touchpad for intuitive navigation. Not to shabby for an acer notebook, but hey the price is sweet too. Speaking of college students who are looking for a cost-efficient bookie.. Details: http://bit.ly/acer-aspire-one-AO532h-details
ZZzzz... ronc... fiuuuuu....ZZZzzzzz...rrOOONC...ZZzzzz
In the market looking for another Netbook or a ULV notebook.
I get tired of carrying my full size notebook around.
CULV is going to overtake netbooks if they keep prices this ridiculous. a system like this should only cost $200-$250.
@Eraser The level of crapware already is at an excruciating high. Do you want even more?
@(Unverified) Not a problem for most of the people on Engadget seeing as we probably all just wipe a system as soon as we get it.
@Eraser
Why? CULV notebooks still average round $500. $300 bucks is reasonable for a netbook.
I am sorry but any computer be it a Netbook having Intel graphics is not allowed to brag....ABOUT ANYTHING.
Those chipsets stutter on even 720p video & as such are just plain horrible.
.
@(Unverified) But why would anyone want to watch HD on a small screen.
I have a Eee Pc 901 that I use to take out with me if I wanted to check something later. I gave that to my daughter. Now I want another one and all I really want is: light weight, bigger screen, and longer battery life.
@(Unverified)
Its not watching at the resolution its watching a clip. Most video I have is encoded at that resolution(720p)& I am not going to encode down to a lower resolution so that I can watch it at the native resolution of the netbook. I just want to get the file from my server and take it with me on the go. Also, I like the Aero interface & that thing barely keeps up with it with a few windows open. Those graphic chipsets were created for a different era. I am a coder but I like a pretty & functional UI. I like stuff running smooth. That thing is a piece of junk & most consumers deserve something better IMHO.
@(Unverified)
I am sure they will have Broadcom video decode chip as an addon option. All other netbooks are adding it.
@(Unverified) pinetrail has a new graphics core, this isn't the old GMA450 or whatever. at least give it a chance before bashing it.
What are you guys bitching about? This is a $300 netbook for pete's sake - it's not supposed to run Crysis.
If this was made by almost any other company, it would have similar specs but cost $100 more.
if this has a mini pcie slot, this might be good once you put in a crystal hd card
yeh it may be $299 but that means you are guaranteed to get Acer quality. That means almost guaranteed failure rate, no telephone support and waiting forever to get your unit back!
Yup, I definitely save $50 and buy the Acer instead of the Asus! /sarcasm
This should be the average price point of netbooks, not the low end. Hopefully the older netbooks will start sinking into the $200-250 range. Once they are all in the range then they can truly become what they were supposed to be.
Though on topic, this looks to be one of the best looking netbooks in a while.
Now that price is more like it. (Where do netbooks go to die?)
Hmm, how do they undercut Asus like that? Here's my guess: tons of crapware preinstalled, unlike Asus' Eee.
is this good enough for youtube HD and hulu??
@dark star - With the 3150 video card. It is NEVER going to play Hulu or Youtube HD on it's own.
This is for people who just want to type and browse on the go.
Also, in the article it says the video card is a 1350, it looks like the numbers got switched around.
@dark star - I saw no mention of the BCM70015 Crystal HD chip, so no, it won't play HD :( Also, looks like VGA out only.
I want one! Does anyone know when it will come out? I've been looking for a good, cheap netbook and was also wondering what the benefits of pinetrail are.
This thing would be perfect - but I am waiting for that Pixel Qi e-paper screen. Ugh. Wish Acer would do a deal with them.
with out fan in it?
