Meta, Engadget's top posts, 2009

Wow. Can you believe it? We made it all the way through 2009! We truly had some of the most amazing and exciting coverage ever on Engadget this past 12 months -- and we figured it's time to take a look back at the heaviest hitters from the last 365. This was a big year for us, we got a whole new look, an iPhone app (with more on the way), hired some new staff, got ourselves a show, went on late night TV, and managed to snap up some killer scoops and keep the news rolling (better than ever before, actually -- this was by far our heaviest year for traffic). So let's take a moment to reflect on what caused all the fuss in 2009, and yes, we know this list is Apple heavy. We blame you guys.
Top 20 most trafficked posts of 2009 (in order)

@revoltracers
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
@aubreyq Happy New Year Everyone. May 2010 bring us some all new, kick-ass devices for all! =)
@N900
Whats coming in May?
@revoltracers Happy New Year Engadget Community !!! What better New Year Gift for us than CES next week !!!! Wooo Hooo !!!
Let this be the year of the 1 GHz + processors, the capacitive touchscreens, Windows Mobile 7, Android Muffin, and... and... 4G !!!!!!
@revoltracers Another amazing year, Engadget! Keep it up! You're numero uno!
Thanks for staying classy and not being insane like that other blog that starts with giz... What the heck is with the yearly round up there?
@revoltracers
lol "We know this list is Apple heavy. We blame you guys." well played.
LONG LIVE ENGADGET!
DOWN WITH MONSTER CABLE!
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/17/engadget-endorses-monster-cable-uh-hell-no/2
My favourite post is by far the one about MS's photoshopping skills
Engadget - thanks for another great year! A quick suggestion: can we also have the ability to view a comment's ranking in the Engadget App please? Other than that, great stuff!!! Looking forward to your coverage on 26th Jan!
@aubreyq
Hoppy New Beer!
Gotta love Engadget!!
@revoltracers
Have to admit, this list sucks pretty bad. Top 5 are apple related, are you kidding me? 3 of those don't even matter that much. I consider windows 7 much more important than most of them. The two other windows 7 related posts are basically the same thing, get rod of one. Also, a modern warefare 2 post made it on there? Considering what a shitty game it was, even if it did come with night vision goggles(which got a pretty crappy review), doesn't even deserved to be number 50. Then again, two similar palm pre posts...really? Come on engandget, get your shit together.
It's pretty clear why Engadget has so many Apple posts.
Irony: top five are Apple related. Goes to show that maybe not only Engadget is biased, but also the readers!
@Avaviel
You never noticed all posts about apple have 700+ comments? Makes you wonder if they aren't making them to bind people to the site, there is a risk they might do that, it's so dead easy.
@Avaviel
Don't forget how many of those hits come from anti-Apple readers who click on those pages simply to write comments about how much they hate Apple.
(Not to mention, live-blogs are refreshed multiple times by each reader during the course of the event, as new minute-by-minute information is posted.)
Ok, biased is the wrong word. "Look, lots of people are interested in Apple!" That better?
Oh, and I have a friend named Jasmine, but I don't think you are her.
@Avaviel No. Comments like yours only show that some people just can't stand seeing Apple succeed where others fail. If you haven't noticed, the list is titled "most trafficked posts." That means it is the readers who are choosing to click on the post. How is Engadget biased? Oh that's right, Engadget is not supposed to talk about Apple right? You can go pound sand at microsoft.com all 2010.
@Avaviel Stop causing flamewars, man. Leave all that shit back in 2009.
@N900 Totally agree. Let 2010 be the Year where a Mac Fan, an Android Fan, a Windows Fan, a BlackBerry Fan and a Pal Fan can all come to the same blog and discuss at ease without the flamewars.
Let 2010 be Macrisodroiprerrilicious !!! We know this year will certainly bring many many many terrific devices and technologies to make us all go into nerdgasm.
@TikiTeko
Seriously. Gadget geeks need to stop taking sides and just enjoy the buffet (nay, smorgasbord) of innovative and different products that the last decade brought us.
Irony: I was trying to point out that people are interested in Apple. Not start a flame war.
@jupigare
That defies human nature. Everyone picks sides, whether they'd like to admit it or not.
"$38,204.57 - Retail value of stuff we gave away to readers"
All I can say is...Damn.
@jupigare
Agreed. Some of that will be mine 2010. BUAHAHAHAH.
Seriously though, one thing I would love to see in the new year is more reviews, especially like the one's for the Droid with the second opinions from different users. I really appreciated those.
@jupigare
$0.00: The retail value of what JW received from Engadget.
I like how it says "11:59"
happy new year engadget readers
@saturnblackhole
Even though I'm in California and still have three hours of 2009 left, Happy New Year!
You guys getting rid of Times New Roman anytime soon?
@iStepOnU Yeah, it's gone already.
ahh yes, the irony. Nice job Engadget lets have a great 2010
btw am i the only one excited for CES! I CANT WAIT!!!
@iStepOnU Use this script to restore the font:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/62407
@Joshua Topolsky can you make the comments editable? at least for the 1st 5 minutes after post.
@Rinum009 I am very excited about CES and even more now than Engadget is the Official Blog !
@Hosain
Hey, I'm an idiot. How do I get execute (?) the source code so it will "clean" up the site?
@Creativity
If you use Firefox, you can use Greasemonkey to install the script: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
Woohoo for not having a life, being on engadget within minutes of the new year!
Happy New Year Engadget.
Talking of 2009, I hear patrick stewart (aka cpt picard) got a knighthood for services to drama in the new-year honors list
In other words he got knighted for facepalm, obviously since facepalm defined the decade :)
Looking at the list, Thats a lot of apple posts
38,000? Wow, engadget, you're rich! I think it's finally time to turn off my adblock... Just to support you.
@AndroidRokz
They gave away stuff they were given for free, not stuff they paid for.
Love the irony of all the "top posts" being AAPL @zz-kissing.
@dwboston1 as stated earlier:
...the list is titled "most trafficked posts." That means it is the readers who are choosing to click on the post.
Apple takes 7 of the 20 highest ranked posts of the year in Engadget. Good stuff!!
@HighestRanked
Apple-related articles took 4 spots out of 10 in Gizmodo's Best 10 of '09
http://gizmodo.com/5437856/top-10-most-popular-articles-of-2009?skyline=true&s=x
@HighestRanked You realize these aren't ranked by us, right? This is based on the amount of pageviews the posts get. Which means (in essence) how many times people clicked to the story. AKA, how many times the readers of the site looked at that post.
@Joshua Topolsky
Yes I'm fully aware, and that's why it's nice to see readers are so interested in Apple.
Anyway, what's poor Laura doing adding posts at 1AM on January 1st? the poor girl should be enjoying the holidays not posting stuff about chinese e-readers:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/01/owen-e1-e-reader-gets-outed-for-chinese-reading-public/
"By Laura June posted Jan 1st 2010 1:02AM"
Let her have a good time!
@Joshua Topolsky
Hmm, all the live events were on top... You guys don't count refreshes as hits do you? ;)
Happy New Year, all!
