Sony Vaio T makes a comeback, and this time it's a CULV with major battery life
The previously phased out 11.1-inch Sony Vaio T has shown back up over at Sony Style Japan. The good news is that this time, it's a Windows 7 CULV on the inside, even if it looks the same on the outside. The new Vaio Ts come with processor options including a dual core 1.2GHz Celeron SU2300, a 1.4GHz dual core Core 2 Duo SU9400, or a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SU9600, and they boast Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, plus 4GB or 8GB of RAM, an up to 512GB SSD or 500GBhard drive. There's also optional extras like Blu Ray, 802.11n WiFi, a fingerprint scanner, and digital TV tuner. The laptop's life is rated at about 11 hours when equipped with the standard battery, or 17 with the large capacity. So far, we've only seen these bad boys in Japan, where they're retailing for ¥129,800 (that's around $1400).

Nice. I might get one myself sometime.
@DaveBrubeck Magnesium alloy? Well there's a pleasant surprise. I've got an FW and I always thought it was plastic. I guess Sony didn't pull an Apple and make a huge deal out of it.
su? Are those soviet processors?
@Wwhat
Yes, they are. They were made in the secret labs in Siberia in the 70's during the cold war.
Unreasonably expensive, considering all other CULV laptops are in the 400-500$ range. 3x the price is not justified by unobtainium case. Is that $1400 with the 512gbSSD or the regular 500gb hd? (considering that 512gb ssd are still around 2000 bucks, it would be an awesome deal, so I'll assume that 512gb is a 2000 dollar option on top of 1400)
For example, a high performance Asus ul30vt is 800 bucks, and that comes with the switchable g210m video card (about geforce 9600 equivalent). So it'll rock the socks off this sony, and it has 11 hour battery life as well.
For 1400 I expect more tricks. Sounds like a Sony tax to me.
@pretol I want to shoot people like you in the cock, because you don't know these are made of carbon fiber and magnesium alloy, and you don't know how well-made these are, and you don't know there are values in a product such as this that cannot be written into specification charts that you love staring at.
Now put an option for an ION in there and you've got a deal.
Watching blu-rays on an 11in screen...A digital copy played in iTunes would probably do just fine, no? And not use the batteries to spin the disc...
@Alln1ght3r
Try connecting your Vaio to a 50 inch screen via HDMI and playing Blu-ray. That's what I am doing
@Riker
That is so 2007...get yourself a stand alone blu-ray player for a $100 and free yourself to hook up you laptop to your big tv. Or better yet, get a PS3, you will be able to play great games as well in 2010! Happy new year!
This would be my ideal netbook !!! Luckily I hold off buying the X.
I'd rather want a new premium 15 incher from Sony like the FZ
@DaveBrubeck
In fairness to cherryboom, Apple was not brought into his comment.
@DaveBrubeck '
just because it isnt actually plastic does not mean it is well built.
I have a vaio z series and its a great laptop but its build quality is terrible. It also costs much more then what you are really getting.
