just leave the cheezy $350 netbooks to Asus & MSI, and sell your HPs for $400, oh wait no change that keep selling your $350 dollar HPs so my MSI Wind'll be $250. Genius! Thanks
Wow, I did not know net-Tops were this cheap. I was at the one of the manufacturing facilities that made these things... there is a fair amount of work involved. Good thing that labor costs are not uniform across the globe.
@AM321CAN If what your stating is the standard american price in the real world (not in blackfriday everyday fantasy world) and I'll certainly would want to grab one. As for hpmini, the new netbooks also include 1GB of RAM, a 160 or 250GB hard drive with Windows 7 Starter Edition pre-installed, a 3-cell or 6-cell battery. With a tag of 320USD, Is it worth it? http://bit.ly/hp-mini-210-factor
wow, i should go on over to Hillsboro and pick one up, im in Beaverton, like 20 mins away by car.
@SmilinGoat Ha, me too. Tempting but I am going to wait and see what else comes out in the next week or two.
It looks good, not really "sexy" per se.. looks sleeker than most netbooks, I guess, but netbooks in general look pretty cool. A design point they all have in common, though, is that they're really cute.
i saw it today in a massachusetts costco for $350, and it looks even nicer in person. it's solid, the keyboard feels good, and the screen is bright and clear. the trackpad is a big improvement over earlier HP minis--the buttons are just a marked-off region at the bottom of the trackpad itself, kinda like on a new macbook.
@WhatHappened
It looks like a barely refreshed version of my compaq mini 110.. with a regressed screen aspect ratio.. what is that? 16:10?
it's a matter of taste i guess..
@WhatHappened
lol, I love the Unibutton.. PC's tired of functionality now too??
netbook generation should die.
they are useless
@rhezaganteng
I hate to say this, but I agree. CULV will take the stage sooner or later.
@revoltracers: unfortunately Intel practically controls both netbooks and culv which means culv will always have a premium price over netbooks. This category isn't going anywhere.
would you use an ax to cut cheese? different tools for different jobs.
@Ruben The $400 Acer 1410 with the CULV dual core celeron(core 2 bases) will beg to differ.
Any deals on eneloops and King crab legs at Costco this week?
What purpose does the gap between the screen and bottom half serve? Wouldn't a larger uni-hinge make more sense? More durable? Just about every PC laptop I've owned has developed problems around the hinge area so I'm always skeptical of these designs.
@(Unverified) that's probably where the battery sits. Most store displays remove the battery.
I'd go check it out but that's an hour by the max and I don't have a costco membership.
How much would you save if they just put Ubuntu on it, is the Windows liscence half the cost of the actual laptop?
@stonecoldstevejobs: the cost of windows is heavily offset by the crapware they put in it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned a profit with some of the garbage they put in it.
@stonecoldstevejobs
OEM Windows licenses are about 40-50 bucks, so no, it's not half.

@ToniCipriani Sorry, I used a little hyperbole.
@Ruben HP is the worst Laptop manufacturer, not only the crapware but they also are the worst enviromental offenders also. I want a Microsoft retail store simply so I can get a laptop without the effin stickers all over it.
@stonecoldstevejobs If you want those crapware-free comps, well you're in for a wait, especially if you live on the East Coast like me. They're putting them up so slowly you would think ONE construction worker is building it.
@N900 I live just outside of Boston, luckily I at least have and Apple Store and a Sony Store. But hey, just imagine the Apple Store tables a different color and you have a Microsoft Store.
@stonecoldstevejobs Ya, except you're still surrounded by Apple gear...
@Blackwheel Just imagine everything several hundred dollars cheeper also.
@stonecoldstevejobs
Sony puts some crapware too....
I mean not all that crappy : some can be found useful by some people but you're still not gonna get your clean windows install.
@Flix C My interest in Sony is based mainly on my love for my PS3. Although, I do find Sony's hardware to be quite nice. I also like it's PS3 XMB like media interface on their laptops. The new Sony cellphones are also quite nice.
@stonecoldstevejobs
Worst offender? Yea that's why they made Newsweek's #1 greenest company this past year.
@Ruben No actually not much crap on netbooks, we got that stepgrandkids 4 for Christmas and I frankly had to remove little crap to make them function smoothly.
@rjflyn I remember configuring a system on dell or lenovo or ibm s website. They offered clean install(they called it some like business install, bs), but it was $20 for them not to install norton and all the bloat. I bought my little sister a netbook and bestbuy want $50 for an optimized install of their bs bloatware on it.
Finally! they're understanding that a netbook shouldn't be over $350! it's gonna make me cry...*sniff*
the styling is very envy-esque
@JeremyBenthem yeah, definitely. It looks really nice in black.
I wonder how thick it is, cause it looks pretty thin in these pictures...
APPLE TABLET for me!!!
why they keep making 10.1 netbooks? the 11.6 are soooo much better
@ciro
11.6" Is for ION and CULV
GOSH DON'T YOU KNOW ANYTHING?!?!
For me 10.1" is the upper limit. Anything more is just too big for a netbook.
Obviously our preferences differ.
Lets hope it can be upgraded with more ram.
I can't say I agree that a unibutton trackpad is progress...
@LIGC
Agreed
What is so bad about having two exposed buttons?
And chiclet keyboards? Has anyone at Engadget ever typed on one? They are NOT progress. It's a sacrifice of functionality for debatable good looks.
@LIGC
I played with one today at the Reno NV Costco and the buttons aren't really any different than having two separate buttons. I think they are just two real buttons under the single panel of the trackpad. You can't really click the button anywhere except lower left and lower right--not like a MacBook Pro, and I think you can still hit both buttons at once, not like the Acer 11".
perhaps not but the chiclet keyboard certainly is...
... thanks Apple!
@skoochy thanks for the clarification, that seems more reasonable. Windows machines do have a need for right clicking, so it's good to see that they acknowledged this.
@LIGC It seems to make more sense on small machines where space is a premium and there's no place to buttons and a keyboard than the Macs actually.
they dumped the bar speaker for in-chassis units?
ugh, morons! the speakers on my 1000 are one of its best features.
Buy a smartphone instead of a netbook.
Or just wait for the Apple Tablet.
@nonamelive
taking notes on a cellphone would be hell.
