Motorola Calgary / Droid Devour spotted in silver, Bluring it up
There's another Motorola "Calgary" device (also known as the Droid Devour) making the rounds, and this time it's showing a silver paint job and an obvious Motorola Blur home screen. Word is that the trackpad to the upper right of the keyboard is great, and the keyboard supposedly bests the Droid -- not a challenging feat, to be sure. Obviously it's headed for Verizon, and Boy Genius confirms that WiFi and GPS are onboard, but it's still a little unclear what the low-end differentiators between it and the Droid might be, outside the three megapixel camera and what appears to be a smaller, lower resolution screen.

hmmm, maybe an HVGA screen?
@logicbombde
They're seriously making this lower end? Let's see they've:
-lowered the res of the camera, which, from report, wasn't that great to begin with
-lowered the res of the screen
+improved the keypad, the phone's biggest drawback
+equip it with BLUR
+I assume they'll lower the price because it's "lower end"
Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead an call this an upgrade.
@derX
From the looks of it, it seems it's for the people who like the Droid Eris, but want a keyboard. Or people with Sidekicks who want an actual wireless signal.
@BuryTheCastle OVER 9000 BEZELS!!!!
OQO is that you? :)
@BuryTheCastle
the keyboard looks much better than the droid and hope it actually is much more usable too
@logicbombde Yuk.
@logicbombde as long as it's using Android and not WinMo it's all good :)
Shit, the more I stare at this photo the more it seems to me to be a QVGA screen.
that doesn't make much sense tho, does android support QVGA?
@derX One of the strange thing about this calgary model is why should the specs be fluctuated down by moto developers? Mm, hopefully the prices will be on the same boat too. Moto Calgary is a droid phone that's something that is not so glamorous to see. Details: http://bit.ly/moto-calgary-devour-details
@derX My Droid has great resolution. Also with Swype coming to Android (already here if you can find the source) the physical keyboard won't be used much. The Droid will still be the flagship for now.
I am glad you took the tip :D I saw that on BGR and I knew this should be on EGDT too !
I honestly like the keyboard. It looks well spaces and the layout is not bad at all.
everything's better with lens flare
@sinai
you mean reflection of the flash? That'd not lens flare.
@EM1
do you have anything better to do, really? actually the long streaks ARE lens flares. The central bright point is a direct reflection from the bouncing flash.
Now go be productive youngling.
@CharlieX
If I had something to do, I wouldn't be on Engadget. Would you?
Fugly Phone!
If the specs under the hood are the same as the Droid, this is a really nice alternative. I like the design, though I like the black version from BGR better.
Reminds me of the sidekick slide
Looks nice, what I'm in the market for really.
I wish these would hit the UK...
Weak specs marries fugly hardware running a UI it can't handle. They better be selling it subsidized for free.
@TareG .......what?
@TareG
How do you sell a free item?
@EM1
Seriously? With a contract.... e.g. $0 with a 2-year contract. Happens all the time.
@TareG
Why the hell is Motorola coming out with so many versions of smartphones? I'd think consumers would be confused already. Motorola must think it's going to have a smartphone to appeal to every type of user in the world. They really need about two smartphones and they should put all their effort into those two. They're already up to about six models. Motorola just never learns from its mistakes. No wonder the company is sinking lower and lower and deeper into debt.
@Average White Boy
Ha ha, totally agreed.. remember the Razr series... V3 to Vxx, each with different color, same specs.. well they hope by riding on the Razr success stories, they hope they can bring themselves out of the red... world, be prepared to see another 5 different version of the Droid in the near future...
@Average White Boy
4 smartphones (Droid, Calgary, Blur, and that ATT Android) spread over 3 networks is confusing?
@Average White Boy
HTC makes smartphones to appeal to different people (that's actually their marketing campaign right now), and they make ish-loads of money doing pretty much only that. Motorola's gotta do somethin...
In metal it would be pretty, with silver painting on plastic I think looks akward.
@kitsune makes me thing of a kirf with a really bad paint job, you know the one where you touch it, and you can just feel the horridness
@Keni think***
@kitsune: So true. Why Motorola, why? -_-
@kitsune Yeap, it looks like that silver Nintendo Gamecube. Feo.
They aren't trying to make it reminiscent of the Sidekick AT ALL...
Looks atrocious.
@Polpus
Who the hell are you? Christopher Lowell?
You have a slightly blurred, close-up image of a device, and some of you fashion Nazis are always the first to rush in to tell us your personal opinion of the looks of something.
Maybe the next model will match your purse.
@LAY
That's what comment sections are for. Please stay civil.

or…way to aim for the mass market which comprises the majority of the TAM….
I swear, half of you people just type things before having your morning coffee. I remember when the first photos of this were leaked and everyone was all up in arms, “Solid black looks terrible!!!11!! oMfG”.
Surely you all have heard of hardware progression, surely you’ve heard of a business case…to make money….where did basic business fly out the window and lay a new path for ass-hat 12-year-olds to judge whether a phone will be successful.
Is this phone a revolution? No. Is it a nice evolution of Motorola’s Android line up at VZW. Absolutely."
this looks awful, what year is this 2003?
@abbas350
Depends. Were you born in 2002?
Completely off topic post, so feel free to vote me down but I really HATE this new Engadget look and dumb commenting system that doesn't let us create our own passwords.
@malexandria1
Uhh... what do u mean doesnt let u create ur own pass? i made my pass...
@malexandria1
Of all the things to complain about the "dumb commenting system" you choose "that [it] doesn't let us create our own passwords"--which is wrong, btw.
C'mon, you can do better.
I want better. I am waiting for better.
looks like it's the size of a netbook.
@miles4000
That guy's thumb takes up, like half the screen.
Where are you from that people have thumbs that big?
@jon just saying it looks big with keyboard open.
@lindsay
Btw, I've reported you for Spam
Why is it called Calgary when it's going to Verizon in the US?
@JefferyShin Calgary for rest of world ( like MILESTONE) and Droid Devour for Verizon (like Droid).
@igeekone
Mmkay, but I don't know why they had to choose CALGARY... not even a capital city haha. Was it designed in Calgary, AB?
