Google Nexus One support page goes live, quickly dies again
Wondering how to activate your shiny new Nexus One? Curious how to get started with the thing, or how to use the 3D gallery? Oh, wait, you don't have yours yet? Oops. Google seems to have posted its support page for the phone a little early, a little site that went live for just a few minutes -- just long enough for us to click through a little, read that Terms of Service that was leaked to us last week, and watch a few videos. The first one that came up is actually the walkthrough for Android 2.0, curiously, but the other videos showed 3D photo gallery and some other goodies. Now they show nothing, though, having been set private and the pages removed. Surely they'll be up again soon, with the device getting announced tomorrow, and while we're still not sure exactly when you'll be able to get your own, you're always welcome to enjoy our hands-on impressions.
Update: Jakob wrote in to let us know that there's another support page still alive -- but barely. It just shows some funky characters, a nearly empty dropbox, and a very nice Nexus One logo.

Ahhh they're teasing us! I can't wait for this phone!
BTW, how long till the review? I've been patiently waiting but I'm about to pop!
@LeiTxo
Given the public announcement tomorrow, I'd suspect...this week?
@LeiTxo It's already the 5th here in Shanghai!!! Can't you guys get a move on over there? I'm wetting my pants for this announcement!! :D
no offense to the article but there is a sense of sucks for you that you dont work for engadget screaming at me
@0to60 Apologies if that came across, the intent was more of Google being the tease here, not us. We're doing the best we can to share all we can.
@TimStevens:
I was going to uprank you.
Then I saw that I couldn't.
@TimStevens If you're sharing all you can, I'd still *love* to see some pictures and video taken with the device you guys have. It was strangely missing from saturday's overview and I am surprised I haven't seen anything on that still!
Thanks,
-Taylor
@Kirtay We're exempt :)
@0to60 Funny how Google used Droid as a wallpaper. Hmm, So our dreams of hoping that the Nexus one phone will fall on 300 below USD is just a myth.. hmm, 530 USD unlocked? Droid can be bought by 120USD only (with a plan) while Google Phone for 180? Hmm.. I'm just thinking..
And then all of a sudden when Nexus 2 arrives.. they will cut the price of the phone from 530 to 300? Hopefully that's not the case. Anyway, let's savor the moment. Nexus One reactions to ordering and pricing: http://bit.ly/nexus-one-price-too-much-or-not-details
HTC Tech Support Line also gives and option of Press 1 for support regarding the Nexus One and press 2 for all other phones
I will be waiting for this tomorrow from my handy Engadget app for my Palm Pre!
@Munier Haha me too!
OMG A PIECE OF PLASTIC WITH ANDROID ON IT!!
LETS HYPE IT UP AS AN IPHONE KILLER LIKE EVERY OTHER ANDROID DEVICE BEFORE!
MYTOUCH IS THE IPHONE KILLER (it releases, noone cares anymore)
HERO IS THE IPHONE KILLER ZOMG (it releases, noone cares)
Droid is the iphone killer!!! (Wait 1.5 months then nexus one purposely "leaks" from google employees to create artificial viral marketing)
nexus on is the iphone killer!! (wait for the next piece of plastic with android in 2 weeks for the google fanboys to brag about)
@Troll
Obvious Troll is obvious.
Honestly, you're not even fun to insult anymore. No one has called it the iphone killer (except you) and even Engadget stated that it is NOT the iphone killer. Also, this phone hasn't been released.
@Troll lameeeee, your the only 1 here to say its goin to be the iphone killer, i dont see anyone here is sayin that, so i think you know irs really goin to bee the "iPhoneKiller"
@Troll
u mad, huh?
@Troll Well , he is kinda right about the fate of previous android handsets
@Troll
Troll right now: nom nom nom
@Troll
If it's not an iPhone killer, it sure does come close.
After all, does the iPhone have:
- 5 megapixel camera with LED flash
- a 3.7-inch, AMOLED 480 x 800 display
- 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB
I don't think so.
@Wiizer
See the only issue with that argument is the iphone 4g is expected to. Personally, I think they'll come dead even.
I think they've also reserved www.google.com/nexusone and www.google.com/nexus1 since the 404 error is not their standard 404 error
Personally Im looking forward to how the sells do the first day.
@AlienSix
Probably not real great since it was rumored it would only be available to certain people.....
Overpriced phone with overpriced plan.
I would love to have Nexus for $375 and a plan thats 200 minutes 50 text unlimited web for $50.
@v4npro So you want to have a top of the line phone, for ~$150 less than the full retail of every other next-gen phone? Without a contract?
Hah. You amuse me.
Consider the hardware you're getting. You're getting an unlocked 1GHz mobile computer. For $500. That fits in the palm of your hand.
Also, check out other comments on previous articles, it's actually cheaper to get it unlocked + a plan than to get it subsidized.
And uh. Hey Google Voice == Free Minutes :3
@audioHack
Well, 3G only works with T-Mobile so why sell it for full price?
@v4npro
Cause you can get t-mobile 7.2mbps 3G (yes unfortunately in only cities), AND with *no contract*.
@v4npro
As opposed to all the other phones that have multi-carrier 3G?
@jon
Yeah I guess it's worth it for T-Mobile customers. Maybe I should switch :o
@audioHack Wait I thought Google Voice still ate carrier minutes (at least for verizon). It still looks like it does on my statement even though half of my calls are made through GV. Am I wrong?
@Dapke36 u have to add ur google voice number as one of ur friends and family numbers. use ur phone to call ur google voice number, and then dial out from there. thats how u get unlimited minutes with google voice. AND to answer the question of if the phone is only for tmobile why pay full price for it?? because tmobile is the only carrier who has cheaper plans when u pay full price for the phone, which after 2 years makes paying full price for the phone and paying less each month cheaper then subsidizing it and paying 20 bucks more each month for ur rateplan.
i just put mi iPhone 3GS on ebay , no joke
@outlaw85
That might've been a bit pre-mature. I'm interested in this, but I would've compared the products myself before doing that.
@HardToBelieve:
No review out yet, either.
Honestly, I'd have waiting, but I hope that sale is worth it for you, @outlaw85.
@outlaw85 multitasking - here it comes...
@dextroz
if this is a reference to the iPhone, you should really look into jailbreaking. I'm happily and easily multitasking. I am interested in the Nexus One too, but not because of multitasking.
@outlaw85 nicely done!!!, if Google worked this closely with HTC, make no mistake by assuming that this will be a heck of a device!!
Too bad other popular carriers didn't embrace this phone cause is not gonna sell as well as it should but still...the phone Hardware and software-wise is better than any other including the iPhone
The trackball still makes me wonder!
It is just not how things should work, especially we are in a brand new decade now! please do something about it!
@Geekelo
I'm not sure about this but I think that it isn't a trackball rather just a button
@Geekelo
Track balls add to gaming and one handed landscape use.
@Geekelo Rather have that trackball than the directional pad on the Droid.
Then again, i'd rather have the Sholes (or w/e it's leaked as right now) optical pad on the new Moto android phone.
The million dollar question is whether the Terms of Service still mention the $530 price or not. There was a discrepancy in the leaked version from last week.
Mainly, they'd be taking a loss even with $350 ECF if you can cancel after 4 months without penalty. Which lead me to believe the leaked pricing was flat out wrong.
@Akhen Yeah, it still mentions $530 as the price. Was kind of bummed when I saw it. I'm still hoping this was nothing more than a testing page and the real page will be up tomorrow. Otherwise the TOS looks pretty much the same as the leaked version.
A few weeks ago, I dropped my iPhone, cracked the screen a bit, and decided that it would be a good time to move to Android (I just despise Objective-C -- don't really have enough time to learn yet /another/ language I'll stick with C#/.Net, Java, and Ruby / Python thanks). Almost bought the mytouch3g Developer Phone from Google for $400. Held off a day, and saw the Nexus One leak. Boy, am I glad I didn't buy the freaking MyTouch.
I was there perusing the site and taking some screencaps. Then *poof*
I'm highly excited for this phone...and I usually could care less about cell phones.
Well they are private now, but...

@jaebird
......they are private even now
After reading that this phone might come with exclusive Spotify App, directly supported (no end user fees) by Google, I'm forced to re-examine the issue of whether or not to buy this phone. It just might be worth it, at $530, with Spotify.
I guess we'll find out more, tomorrow.
Oh, Google, what shall we do with you?
You give out tons of Nexus One's, expect them to NOT be photographed/leaked/placed in Joshua Topolsky's hands, and now this?
I mean, seriously, you've broken damn near every single secret-keeping rule in the book!
@MastrCake
Who wrote the book, anyway?
