Leica S2-P unboxed on video, produces sample shots
Ladies and gentlemen, please disengage your budget conscience for this post, as hearing things like "the Leica S2 seems to be quite the happy medium" when discussing a camera that costs north of $31,000 (body only!) will never make much sense otherwise. Matthew Harrison, aka The Leica Guy, has gotten his hands on what he calls the first commercially available S2-P and performed a loving unboxing and preview of the luxurious shooter. With a 56 percent larger sensor than the stellar Canon 5D Mark II (stretching all the way to 37 megapixels), fully weather-sealed casing, sapphire glass monitor screen, and Platinum Service for the discerning photographer, the S2 certainly has a spec sheet to match its price. Matthew's impressions only confirm the supremacy of this beast, and you can hit up his site below for sample pictures. Don't forget the video unboxing after the break, which includes (at 3:53) something that might cause real distress to bona fide DSLR junkies -- you've been warned.

@Prokanda
Please, no need to explain what the difference between soapboxes (even though I never owned one) and professional cameras is. Sure it doesn't matter how uncomfortable the camera is when you shoot in a studio using a tripod and a remote -- it can be shaped as a dildo or a teapot (like this Leica) and you wouldn't care. But when you are out in a field, you want it to be comfortable and have a decent looks. Especially in this kind of category where you pay so much more money.
It's just sad that people find things beautiful as long as they are made by designers (no matter how bad those designers are), by famous companies and are expensive.
@Mark Free
And what is it exactly about the shape of this camera that makes it look uncomfortable to you?
Something tells me you're shaped like a dildo.
That shutter release looks like a pearl.
The video looks like a porn movie...
@Waroxy Like two girls playing the dxxx.
@Waroxy a BAD porn movie.
but will it blend?
@(Unverified) yes but you really dont want it to T_T
I'm confused, what was distressing at 3:53?
@Nitesh Pointing an exposed sensor up like that is just asking for dust and debris to get on it.
@Gene Its Leica, I'm sure the camera has magical dust repelling powers.
Ok, so who's the ginger Leica rep that got his jailbait daughters to do the unboxing?
That was grim.
content of sony music??
too bad - got to switch to a proxy from germany ...
What makes a Leica so expensive? Is it build and image quality or just a stupid brand image they want to create like Lexus...
@poematik14: lol, Lexus is a luxury brand. they take plain-Jane toyotas and add more horsepower, leather, wood trim, bigger rims, tons of creature comforts... you get what you pay for (not to mention toyotas are damn near bullet-proof, making it a very reliable and well designed luxo car).
@Prokanda
actually, in Japan, Lexi are Toyotas.
Not that the quality is any different, but there's no Lexus in the JDM.
Ugh. I really hope this guy is a better photographer than he is a videographer, because otherwise a $50 class will do him more good than any $30,000 camera.
To be honest, gor 31k, the box sucks, at least male tje box nice for a camera with the same price as. A used maserati quatroportte from 2005 LOL
Too bad the video can't be played ...
How could the video of the unboxing of a camera have content from Sony Music?
@elmarjason
same here in germany. "cannot be played in your country."
good job.
That is a thing of beauty! Medium Format + DSLR size body = I want
The things I would do for that camera.
Send the camera back, its obvious that you don't know how to use one.
Cinematography hint: if you can't maintain focus stay away from those freaking wide apertures douche bag!
It does look BIG, but perhaps that is just those tiny little girl hands holding it. Hmmmm 37 MP... I could print a house at actual size, right?
$31,000 and all they came up with for packaging was a couple pieces of styrofoam and a flimsy cardboard box?!?! With a price tag that ridiculous this thing should come in a bullet-proof diamond studded titanium case with some platinum and gold accents throw on... obviously they didn't want to seem too elitist...
31 Grand?! If I take the plunge, the President of the company better deliver the thing himself with white gloves on!
Am I the only one who doesn't count heavily post-processed, vignetted images of a couple of redheads in a greenhouse as "sample shots?" Please, do us a favor and get it right at the time of exposure. Jesus.
Just goes to show that Leica really did make this camera for professionals legal, dental, and medical.
