Lady Gaga named Polaroid creative director, puts that liberal arts education to good use

As you know, Polaroid recently went Chapter 11 (again), relegating the once great brand to little more than intellectual property to be exploited by the likes of Hilco Consumer Capital and Gordon Brothers -- a couple outfits that know the power of branding. You know who else understands the power of branding? That's right: Lady Gaga, the newest creative director of Polaroid Imaging Products (insert your own Paparazzi joke here). Apparently the chanteuse will be working "behind the scenes" to develop "prototypes in the vein of fashion / technology / photography innovation." We just hope the Haus of Gaga has learned a thing or two after that Monster debacle a few months back. PR after the break.
Lady Gaga Named Creative Director for Specialty Line of Polaroid Imaging Products
LAS VEGAS - 2010 International CES – January 5, 2010 – PLR IP Holdings, LLC, owners of the Polaroid™ brand, today announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Lady Gaga, who will serve as creative director for a specialty line of Polaroid Imaging products. The partnership brings together one of the world's most iconic brands with today's fastest rising musical artist and cultural trend setter, known for her string of smash global hits including Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Poker Face, her fashion forward design aesthetic and her exceptionally close connection with her fans.
Lady Gaga will make a special appearance at the Polaroid booth at the 2010 Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Thursday, January 7 at 10:45am to talk about her new creative and business relationship with the Polaroid brand.
"I am so proud to announce my new partnership with Polaroid as the creative director and inventor of specialty projects," said Lady Gaga. "The Haus of Gaga has been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation--blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digital era--and we are excited to collaborate on these ventures with the Polaroid brand. Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and to as my father puts it--finally, have a real job."
"Lady Gaga's broad creative talents and the way she connects with her fans in her own, unique manner made her a natural choice for Polaroid," said Stephen Miller, co-CEO of PLR IP Holdings. "Polaroid has had a special connection with its customers for years, we are delighted to be partnering with Lady Gaga to continue with that tradition and bring new and exciting products to the next generation."
The partnership with Lady Gaga is the most recent in a string of partner announcements by PLR IP Holdings, LLC (PLR), the new owner of the Polaroid brand. In the past six months, PLR has assembled a family of Polaroid partners for product development, marketing distribution and licensing. Building upon Polaroid's rich history, the Polaroid partner network will support fans and users of classic Polaroid products and deliver new Polaroid products to a new generation of Polaroid customers while staying true to Polaroid's long-standing values of fun and simplicity.
New products by Polaroid and Lady Gaga are to hit retail shelves starting in late 2010.

@Marius
Get Get Get a Lifeeeeee
She can not Sing
The reason she's famouuuus
Is she likes chicks
@Marius
Cant Read my, Cant read my
No he cant read my Poker Face
I dont care if she cant sing.
Get a Life?, lol...what.
@Sea Urchin I actually think she can sing. Plus she was a producer and DJ before her debut album came out and she's 23. I think she's quite talented.
@Marius
Sea Urchin, actually she can sing. There's an acoustic version of pokerface on youtube and she has a really great voice, it's a shame that she doesn't do more acoustic stuff.
@Sea Urchin She can't sing? Thats why she was accepted to juilliard, right?
Its funny how people hate her just because she's popular and weird.

@flame0117
lols being accepted and actually attending the school....two different things
@Sea Urchin
Call her crazy, ugly, whatever, but you can not DENY that she does have a voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVAS53JWcxA
@KosherTelephone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIvhs1DLHEI
She does all the time.
@KosherTelephone Ah the Live Lounge, some of the best acoustic pieces ever are done there.
@Gi
Yeah, I don't think Juilliard's anybody's safety school.
If you get in, you've got talent.
@Gi They don't accept people who suck. Unless of course they're rich. But her family wasn't. Hating on her cause she's a freak is one thing, but she paved her way with her voice (and beats and writing of course), and she is by no means bad-sounding. Maybe not your taste, but not bad. Less than 7% of people are accepted to Juilliard, so even getting accepted is a big feat. Wouldn't you gloat that you got accepted to harvard, even if you didn't go? You were still chosen.
@Hoppesangon I mean as content she releases, not just live sessions.
@Sea Urchin
Honestly, I didn't have an opinion on her one way or the other before I heard her acoustic piece on SNL a while ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_L3Upp6Ptc
I can only remember a few times where somebody's raw musical talent has made me stop in my tracks, whether it be a street musician or anybody else. (With a lot of music these days, the individual instrumentalists aren't technically fantastic...the secret to being a great band is in the composition and showmanship.) Seeing and hearing that Lady Gaga has such a beautiful voice and can play piano made me respect her. Her voice is amazing.
@spaz1
Making her different from all other celebrities how?
@immortal clone
...and super annoying.
Can't you at least try to make your comment relevant to the discussion and not just a "first" comment?
@Bill Gates
But equally creepy none the less
how long until gaga is wearing a costume made up completely of polaroid film?.... or CAMERAS?
@sinai
...pics or it didn't happen.
@BigJayDogg3 no pics, she used all the film on the outfit : \
@sinai
What do you mean until.
Internet Rule 40: If it exists, Lady Gaga has made an outfit out of it.
As Lady Gaga is creative director nothing Poloriod brings to the table will have any taste
@3rdsun Sounds like this deal could be a ....bad romance? *rimshot*
@immortal clone
HAHAHAHA!! DAMN how funny is that! I almost pissed my pants laughing!
If that's not sarcasm I don't know what is. :p
Pa pa pa polaroid pa pa polaroid. Ha could help it.
Wait, so what does this have to do with Technology? Wait, is this Gawker? Did I get DNS attacked and was transferred to Gawker?
oh, isn't "she" a she-male?
@immortal clone
You sir, are a Discostick
I've never even heard of lady gaga before. Probably perfect for Polaroid then.
@(Unverified) She's extremely talented and one of the biggest grossing acts this year. She's also doing a lot for the fashion industry with some of the haute couture stuff she wears in her videos and bringing showmanship back to the stage. Nothing cute about living under a rock "unverified". No one's impressed you haven't heard of something.
@MisterK
"No one's impressed you haven't heard of something."
Totally upranked you for this line.
@immortal clone
And you're the first to be down-ranked into oblivion for the 3rd time straight! Now THAT'S hilarious!
Wait, she's the creative director of p-p-p-p-p-polaroid now?
Wow!! No wonder Polaroid = fail.
I hope they enjoy suckin' her cock.
@Plazmic Flame
Nothing brings reason to a discussion like a homophobic teenager.
Keep Making the Klan Proud.
@jon
Nothing brings reason to a discussion like a randomly interjecting the KKK.
@immortal clone
(RAH)² (AH)³ + RO (MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH(LA)²
@Neurasthenic
you made my day :))))
"I'm your insta-film, develop me, you wanna shake me, shake-a, shake-a shake me"
She look like'a man
a lot of people are defending her for being popular and her singing ability. But the real issue is that nothing she has done in her Julliard, DJ, Fashion, Media life makes her qualified to fulfill that fake title Polaroid gave her.
The whole thing is just a big publicity stunt (which is working), but wouldn't it make more sense to just say she's a spokesperson?
My vote is that if you have a fake name then you shouldn't be promoted as a "technology expert". Do you hear me Bono, Gaga and IJustine?
Sorry sony, you were too slow, now somebody else grabbed her.
But you still got your slaughtering goats PR geniuses.
Brilliant! Millions please!

She's talking about it here. I can't believe this.
