Dell 5-inch slate press pics want you to study them
Fresh from the CES vaults comes these images of Dell's 5-inch slate or, as the presser says, the "5-inch tablet concept." It runs Android, it may be called Streak, and we've got hands-on pics of it here. But you're not here for the ad hoc shots full of arms, hands and dirty fingernails; you're here for the glossy press pics, so we won't keep you any longer. Jump into the gallery and get your ogle on.

@NewL it does you idiot
Is this supposed to be a phone?
@glamajamma I know right? It certainly looks like a nicer phone than the one they sold to AT&T
@glamajamma
Okay, so someone needs to standardize naming these things. Where does a pmp end and a tablet begin? A 5" screen is too freakin small to be considered a functional computer.
@sweet greggo
NetPad(TM)
Never mind, figured it out myself.
@sweet greggo Not so fast... There is a historic demonstration of a fully capable portable computer with a 5" screen... I've seen it working. http://oldcomputers.net/sx64.html
@jerry924
Ha. My brother still has his SX-64. He fires it up once in a while for old times sake.
Let's go jump the band-wagon.
dayummmmm
it's the slate year...
@erwin
That's MR. Slate to you Flintstone

Oh yes they call him the Streak!
Looks like a blackberry storm but bigger ?
@ADzurka
First thing I thought when i saw it too.
Not bad looking at all. Slap an AWS band on it and I'm in for one.
Judges will also accept Smudge or Smear as a correct answer.
Much better color now. But --
Too small for a slate. Too large for a cell phone.
Why not chop 3/4 of an inch off it Dell??
@PhineasJW It's hard to justify what category we put it in. How about Personal Connections Device? You can call with it, Check vital mails and socials, surf the net. Like a phone plus a... a...
I don't know!
Now this is a nice (perhaps sexy) looking device. That Dell Mini phone, yuck. This is what that that Dell Mini phone should have looked like instead of the cheap plastic look.
I'm reading Engadget on one of these right now, except mine says Archos on it...
@tazmond In case you were wondering-
http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5it/index.html?country=us&lang=en
@tazmond
can yours make phone calls?
Looks nice to me.
Now is the mighty battle between computer guys and mobile guys.....mobile kept on enlarging and computer kept on miniaturized....lets see who wins this battle
@d no, it really doesn't. Go spam elsewhere.
Looks nice, but it's screensize is just stupid. Too in-between a normal smartphone and a proper tablet.
@NewL
Dell finally hit the hot, useless spot. The HD2 should be as big as a phone is allowed to be. 7" is as small as a tablet should be. 5" is meainingless.
I want to see what this thing is actually meant to do and what it does.
@HighestRanked http://www.dellstreak.com/ there's a video of someone using one.
The sideways Home button makes me think not a phone...but who knows
Its def better looking than the Fugly3 that AT&T is getting
With Snapdragon and Android 2.1, it could be "not bad"... but I still long for a front camera, and a keyboard...
Throw it against the wall, see what sticks - now that's a strategy for success. I think this one has fail written in capital letters.

@dedparrot it has a video of someone using it and more info
The dimensions make no sense!!! Too small to be a useful tablet, too big to be a phone!
And why does this look a billion times better than the ugly Mini 3?! Argh! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
i think it looks sweet, but not sure what it is. shrink it a lil and call it a phone or stretch a bit and make it a slate. certainly better looking than their phone. am liking it the more i stare at it.
