Samsung's 14-inch transparent OLED laptop (video)

If you thought the XPERIA Pureness was wild with its meager 1.8-inch transparent screen, wait'll you get a hold of Samsung Mobile Display's prototype 14-inch notebook -- complete with what's being touted as the world's first and largest transparent OLED prototype. When the thing is off, the panel is up to 40 percent transparent (as opposed to the industry average of below twenty-five percent). Not much more to say about it (we'll let you know as soon as our friends from Korea tell us more), but there is plenty to see: so get a load of the video after the break.

Congratulations Samsung, you just solved a problem nobody had.
GIMMICK. What is the point?
OH MY GOD THE TASK BAR IS AT THE TOP!!
this is so PIMP !! I love it !
Its good to make sure my employee are working, not surf for porn
Translucent =/= Transparent
OLED sunglasses FTW
I hope its price won't be set proportionally increasing screen size from xperia pureness (2-2.5 inches?) to this Samsung's 14 inches... The first costs... how much... $900?

Wonder what the contrast ratio on that thing is?....
As a monitor solution, it's not so exciting. However, as a method of placing a television screen in the middle of a window frame, it's pretty cool. I can imagine a day in the not-too-distant future where architects can actually develop large, bay windows for upscale clients with OLED monitors embedded in them. With similar tech to the auto-dimming rearview mirrors we're all used to, you could end up with a huge window that doubles as a monitor. OLED still has a long way to go, and direct sunlight is probably awful for it at this juncture, but it's definitely got potential in areas like this, as well as airport terminals, HUDs, and interactive kiosks.
BTW, is that vista?
This is going to flop horribly.
woohoo wahay to crazy tech dudes for comin up with this the future is finally comin, Next up hover cars and lazer cats :]
Damn, thats trippy! Now for some privacy though... lol
Would people get one of these for energy efficiency?
perhaps if it had an opaque lcd layer in back for a privacy on/off option
cool, but so useless.
Please someone say IBM!!!
OMG, IBM had a transparent-screen laptop ages ago, like 10 years ago or sth, don't remember for sure.
Back then it was used for presentations as there were only overhead projectors and this laptop would have to be placed over the projector for presenting.
Transparent OLED: Now easier to find out if your workers were watching NSFW content
LOL! I only want the OLED part of this screen, not the Transparent part. That should go in cars and helmets (@_@)
All that wasted room and that small ass keyboard
Now that's what I call hardware accelerated translucent effects!
Wow! Now I won't have to make all those transparencies for work...
(That probably wouldn't work anyway).
