SteelSeries NP+ mousepad not made of steel, water resistant nonetheless
Here's one for those gamers who insist on angry looking peripherals with names like "Frag" and "Sentinel" and "Head$hot" (oh, dear). The SteelSeries NP+ medium to rough glide mousepad offers higher level of mouse-to-surface friction -- the perfect thing for enabling your wish fulfillment / blood lust in the form of first person shooters. Works well with either your optical or laser mouse, apparently, and sports a generous 17.7 x 15.7-inch surface. Best of all, it's Mountain Dew-resistant! Available in March for $25.
SteelSeries Announces Water and Stain Resistant Mousepad, New SteelSeries NP+
New Durable Mousepad Designed With Pressure Compressed Fibers Resulting In a Rough Glide Surface for Gamers
2010 International CES
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SteelSeries, the leading manufacturer of gaming peripherals and accessories, today during the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, introduced the SteelSeries NP+ Mousepad. The new, large surface was designed for gamers and mouse users who prefer a thick and rough glide surface. The pressure compressed fibers allows for extreme durability making it water and most-stain resistant.
"We work with a number of professional gamers that have a wide assortment of preferences when it comes to the surface they're playing on or the level of glide and friction they prefer," said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO. "The SteelSeries NP+ was designed for those that prefer a rough glide and large area surface. The water and stain resistant material makes this surface, our most unique textile mousepad."
Unlike any other surface that SteelSeries offers, the SteelSeries NP+ is specifically targeted for gamers that prefer a medium to rough glide and higher level of mouse to surface friction. Regardless of their preference, users can effectively operate an optical or laser mouse on the 17.7 x 15.7 surface. Its non-slip rubber base provides a firm grip and prevents the pad from sliding no matter what surface the SteelSeries NP+ is placed on.
SteelSeries NP+ Mousepad will be available at leading online retailers including Newegg.com with an MSRP of $24.99 beginning in March 2010.

Is this a joke post?
A mousepad? In 2010?
It has been almost a decade since I've seen anybody use a mousepad, and even then it seemed quaint and outdated.
@Chefgon
truths I play l4d/2 and tf just fine without any pad
...but hey its water proof lols
@Chefgon
I think that some people need a mousepad because the surface they're playing on doesn't really permit smooth mouse movement. At least, I know that I used to need a mousepad, and actually it does feel better to have a proper mousepad in my opinion, but I don't really find it necessary.
@Chefgon
I play in a league, CSS, TF2, L4D. And a mousepad is very important for me. And what if you have a crappy uneven table? You sir are a noob if you say that performance mouse pad is outdated.
@kyphem
I've always known gamers were intense, but damn mouse pad performance. Damn.
Gamers, I salute thee.
@derX
But its true! You can easily measure the performance of a mouse pad. No table can come even close in terms of precision to a nice steel/allum mouse pad.
This is actually not bad. I use a Steelpad S&S and a Steelpad 5L, both are phenomenal. This one at a price of $25 is not bad considering I paid between $30 and $40 per pad a year ago and it has even more area to move.
@Chefgon
I am not sure what you do, but apparently you don't game or use any programs like photoshop or illustrator where exact precision is important. Sorry, but no table surface is going to give you the response that one of these mousepads will.
this looks like the same mouse pad that was given away at pax... i should go look at it, same logo at least.
(im not really up to date in the world of mousepads i guess)
I need one that's dust resistant. I keep having to slap my steel series mouse pad around to get the dust out every week. (Excellent gaming pad BTW!)
@One Love I need a dust resistant one too... Well I actually have the icemat 2nd edition in white and I have to wipe it clean with windex from time to time.
Good god, that "Head$hot" mousepad is just...beyond words. I think I need to scrub my eyes out with some chlorine after seeing that.
I thought this was available in Amazon for quite some time already. I got mine from there a year ago.
good mousepad but that is to be expected considering the self-proclaimed market leader took 10 months to copy it from ZOWIE GEAR's line of products that have these features.
