Korean gadgets these days are either gunning for
next-to-nothing thinness or
mind-boggling transparency, which is marvelous. Today we came across another Korean company (and
an old friend), Fils, which does transparent "sound film" speakers in many forms: photo frame, umbrella, curtains, cap, hoodie and even model yacht (yeah, seriously), all thanks to the highly-flexible
piezoelectric film. Sure, the sound quality was hardly top-notch, but apparently Fils is hooking up with a few big-name Korean electronic companies (TVs?), so we're all going to suffer soon whether you like it or not. Cheer yourself up with the video after the break.
Very cool......
@ChillyCat
I bet you wanted to post "FIRST!!11one!" but actually wanted to try and contribute to discussion. Except then you couldn't find anything to say.
Hence your post of "very cool..."
@Widgetech
Zactly......wuz speechless
@ChillyCat
Why? You can even stretch your nutsack and attach a magnet to it and it'll become a speaker diaphragm.
@Kurian i'm sending that one to mythbusters :)
How useless, that photoframe "film speaker" looks like the speaker's on the bottom...
Finally. I'm so sick of not being able to see through my speakers. It really bothers me. Can I just give them my credit card info now and they can just take whatever they want for this marvelous and useful product?
pretty neat but i don't see how this will revolutionize anything or be seriously used in a TV, the sound quality has got to be terrible, oh wait a second TV's sound is terrible these days perhaps it will become the standard!
SE Pure, be shamed. Not only did they manage to make the transparent screen color but also made it double as a speaker.
@Unverified and Frit011
Are you guys stupid or something? Of course the sound quality is not going to be Hi-Fi at this point. They're attempting something completely new and out of the box. They've succeeded in making this revolutionary thought a reality. Now any other company can improve upon this product. That's how just about every single new technological thought runs its course. And all you guys can say is "eww sound quality bad. Me not likey."
@Blackwheel
It's not that revolutionary it's called an Electrostat speaker they've been around for a while. This just seems to put the metallic components on the film hence the horrid sound quality.
@Dank114 I wouldn't be so sure, but then again we struggled to comprehend the rep's rusty English while she attempted to explain the technical details.
If you take a look at Photo 6 of 12,
"Enjoy, Song, Interest, Child"
Ummmm What?...
why don'y I replace all my windows with this one for my rear speakers
wat's the point? seriously, ur spending tons of money to develop a product that will do wat, rip people off? how can this be revolutionary? interesting for like 5 minutes, but then thers no use...
@masta vaan
No use??? How about putting this up as wallpaper some day in the future. That seems useful, doesn't it?
@masta vaan
There are so many uses for this type of speaker. If it matures to the point that the sound quality becomes on par with other speakers in gadgets I can see it gaining widespread adoption. but even without being able to play music like a high end home system it still has some very good uses.
I would think that if it is thin and transparent it would be a good replacement for the speaker on cellular phones. Activate the speakerphone mode and the whole screen becomes a speaker. Or play back a music clip to your friends.
On a handheld game system like the DS you could make the screen be a speaker and be able to make a more compact unit.
Car speaker systems could be replaced with this type of film on the windows.
Computer monitors, second TV's, GPS units, you name it. Pretty much anything that uses a speaker and has a view screen could use this technology to make it more compact.
Hell, I would love to one day be able to have the windows in the living room be coated with a material like this that filtered UV light and doubled as the speakers so I wouldn't have speakers hanging all around the room for the surround system.
@dennisheadley
the app's are endless, and could def go hand in hand with Samsung and Sony's OLED-TV development. Their website has some cool applications (http://www.fils.co.kr/flash/project.htm). I want all that stuff as well as a musella, so I can accost strangers in the rain :)
But they def. have to work on names for the products, my favorite is the Hooder phone and the Sound Of Wine.
this is new CIA washboarding called , soundboading. They wrap prisoner
up in this sound plastic and play abba songs!
I feel like I've seen this demonstrated before, only by a different company. It worked on that TV they used.
This is truely awesome technology... Wonder about real volume and durability?
It's use is to remove the need for speaker space in mobile devices.
rather transparent speaker hands-behind...
if there is a umbrella that makes plays music there should be like a plug at the bottom where the handle is to play like any mp3 files on the itouch iphone, and other mp3 things and like the name should be like musella ( music + umbrella) =D i like this product lol these musella should cost about like 150-200 US dollars.
I just want loud and clear BASS.
Highs make my brain burst, I almost despise sibilance.
