There's no fix yet, but
Nexus One users are getting a solid first step this week now that T-Mobile is officially investigating the
3G / EDGE fluctuation issues that folks have been reporting. A posting over on T-Mob's official support forums is now asking for users with verifiable problems to report a few key stats including their location, the nature of the problem (no 3G or 3G / EDGE switching), and whether they've got another AWS 3G phone handy that's performing better. The company says that it hopes "to have more information for you soon," so, you know, keep that box handy just in case this puppy needs to get exchanged
Nokia 5800-style.
@greymarch
I was reading your blog . You talked about the Nexus being an iphone killer. I stopped reading your blog.
@greymarch so if you are an area without 3G then you wont get any receptions.
you gotta respect Google, they have a problem, they acknowledge it, and are working to solve the issue at hand. we can use more of these type of actions now-a-day.
@iroq d mullet

Darn, Engadget's commenting system does include a button to edit posts. Oh well, I guess I will just have to reply with a new post.
I would imagine a radio update would fix this up.
My brother just got the phone and he's goin' through it. He already wanted to throw it. While, it is a beautiful phone, the problems it's havin' is really fustratin'.
I get full 3G signal on mine... lose it inside building, but Edge loss isn't far behind... Speeds are actually quite decent... Not huge issue to complain about in my area (Detroit metro)... Solid T-Mo 3G signal here. Just wishing speeds were closer to the 7.2Mbps... right now about 850kbps... But signal itself is full bars...
@micanuck That's good to hear. I'm in Dearborn so hopefully I won't have any 3G problems.
I love my new Nexus One. Switched over from the iPhone 3Gs. Although I lose 3G in spots it still beats the hell out of constant dropped calls from my iPhone. My only gripe about the phone is the keyboard could be slightly better, other then that it surpasses the iPhone IMO.
I live in Portland (OR). I got the phone on Thursday. I waited a day to open the phone... after reading all the negative comments. On Friday I decided to open the box and eat the $45 re-stoking fee. After 30 minutes of using is I could not put it down. Video capture is excellent, email (personal & exchange) works flawless.Backup of my calendar\contacts to my business email (google based) works like a champ. Social integration with Facebook works as it should. Not to mention that speech to text is so accurate that even my accent can't trick it. I love this phone.
PS: the rumors about iPhone having a better screen absolutely bogus. I downloaded a drawing app and guess what? The lines are straight. Not to mention that I compared reading small font on the latest iPhone and you can clearly see that the Nexus has a better screen!!!!
New to the comments area: where do I edit a newly posted comment?
Few more things about the Nexus One:
- I haven't experienced 3G drops in coverage
- tested the download speed and it has not passed 900kpbs yet... still waiting for the 7.2Mbps :)
@pdxrain Unfortunately, there is no edit option.
the 5800 never required exchange, it was fixed with firmware dumbass.
3G in the Boston area is great for me on the N1. Also I'm getting 3G speeds with t-zones! That's a $6.99/month data plan for those who are unaware.
Hey but the Android fanboys told us it was actually iphone users posting on the message boards?
"Super."
The jesus phone wasnt perfect either. It had failing batteries, stuffed LCD capacitive screens when viewd in landscape, a bugger me 3.5mm headphone jack (for apple headphones only!!), lots of bugs (up until version 2.1 firmware), not to mention it was only friggin 2G to start, with no MMS, 2MP camera and stuck on AT&T for 2 years!..
All you apple fanboys dishin the Gphone should remember the good old iPhone days.. Short memories huh.?
Dont worry, its not the first mistake Engadget has made over the last week. We all know they're paid by apple to dish on anything other than apple lol
