MacBook Pro with Intel Core i5 processor revealed via Intel promo flier? (update: prize now Envy 15 instead)
Far be it for us to argue with order of operations, but an apparent Intel Retail Edge Program promotional email has revealed a contest where those who pass this month's training can win one of two MacBook Pros with Intel Core i5 processors inside. Only catch is, that's a model that doesn't yet exist -- whoops! Don't know how long the company expects those winners to wait, but we've gone ahead and kept our calendars clear for the end of the month, just in case Apple feels the urge to send out any last-minute press conference invites.
Update: We've been sent a new flier from Intel that "corrects" the contest. The prize is now one of two Envy 15s with Core i5. Sure, we've joked about the physical similarities before, but did someone really mix the two up that egregiously? Only time will tell. Correction email reprinted after the break.
[Thanks, Mike!]

Meh, I like this year's model, it's faithfully served me almost everyday and it's still running like a champ! No need to upgrade every year just because something 'more betterer' is coming out.
This is a leak purposely done by Apple together with Intel. It's done to create hype and in turn help boost Apple's stock numbers and enhance investor confidence. Apple is a smart company. They know how to do this. They always do this. They leak things in a very unique way with perfect timing. I have no doubt the MBP line-up will be refreshed on January 27th if not earlier. It is about time!
@Kenease and who are you to say that??? ...the only evidence I see that it might be a leak is the fact that Intel (being such a big company) making such a random mistake in there flyer... = =' ...otherwise i think it doesn't mean anything, just some "engadget hype"
Alright, I'll guess I'll add my vegetables to this mess pot.
Lol, they're using the old macbook pro picture.
Just saying.
I Really want a new macbook I have been waiting forever for them to get a new model. It's kind of funny because the Nehalem mac pro (tower) has been out for quite some time but they are still using the old core2's in the MBPs...need update, nao!!
Aaaaaaand, it's gone! The contest page has been updated, claiming a mistake on the laptop. The CPU is still the same, but now the giveaway is for an HP.
no doubt the new macbooks will have the new core i3/5/7 processors - this though, i think was a boob in intel's behalf.
*secretly hopes apple bring back the black book*
@Wiggy Fuzz yeah what is it with Apple's disdain of the blackbook? Lots of ppl would pay $200 extra for the privilege of a black anodized aluminum MBP.
Throw in some meaningless tech improvement as well so we can justify the higher price to the left brain, and I am game.
I bet it's even more expensive, and still uses the 9600m.
OMGZ! APPLE HAS IMPLEMENTED AN INCREMENTAL UPGRADE INTO THEIR PRODUCT LINE!!!!! EVERYONE REJOYCE!! THEY HAD MADE A RATIONAL BUESSINESS DECISION THAT ALL HIGH END LAPTOP MAKERS ARE IMPLEMENTING!!! THIS IS BIG NEWS!! OMG APPLE APPLE APPLE! CUTTING EDGE i5 PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY THAT APPLE INVENTED!! OMGZ!!!!!
give me a call when your laptops acutally have expansion slots to keep them from going obsolete in under 18 months and we can talk :).
from the same guys who bought you .. "pretty sure thats a Lambo duude..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJa32RvAtPE
Anyone think the MBP would be too good with a Mobility 5870?
Yes Finally! I have been wait almost a year for the MacBook Wheel...
I have BIG NEWS, and the best thing is, I don't need any insider info for this: Apple is going to build the next great Intel mobile chip into their laptops! It's going to be the top of the line, but not that one that runs so hot it only fits into huge desktop-replacement gaming rigs, because Apple doesn't build those.
Core i5, core i7, as soon as their power consumption is low enough for a laptop with decent battery life, Apple will put them in.
Huge news, I know!
maybe the people at Intel who were setting up the ad couldn't see the difference between the apple macbook pro and the HP envy...they sure look the same!
The i5 isn't the news, it's the release date.
Everyone has been waiting for these to drop since the iMac came out.
The question is when?
