myTouch 3G Fender Edition subs for G1 on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'
We knew the when and the what, but now we know the whom: Eric Clapton will be touting the new Fender Limited Edition of T-Mobile's myTouch 3G on national TV, and a few of his hits will be pre-loaded onto the phone. The faux-wood handset goes on sale January 20th, and packs a 16GB microSD card for cramming in some of Clapton's lesser-known jams from your own catalog, along with a long-awaited 3.5mm headphone jack so you can actually get some enjoyment out of them. There are also a few guitar-related apps preloaded, a new doubleTwist partnership for music syncing, and Fender will be selling a few accessories of its own to really kit the thing out. At launch the $180 phone will be running Android 1.6, but it's supposed to get a 2.1 update this spring. Hit up the source link for the ad, featuring a very weathered Eric Clapton tolerating his new handset.

It's hard to muster up enough "care" for this one.
@Jban Especially since Clapton's best work was on Gibson Guitars.
Yeah, I said it!
"Weathered"???
For all the drugs, booze and tragedy this guy's been through, I'd say he ain't looking to bad for 55 y.o.!
@Dank Dillweed He's 64
@aztek
God, see what happens when I don't start drinking early, I can't even subtract.
@aztek
64 and Awesome!!
With the kind of excitement he's showing, who doesn't want to run out and get one!
I always control my android device while not looking at the touch screen at all.
@technogecko6
Sometimes he doesn't look at his guitar when he's playing it also
@flanders :D good one
@technogecko6
when you're good, you're good.
@NaJaKwa
And when you're really good you're Eric Clapton.
@HardToBelieve
Google this you young-uns
"Clapton is God"
Didn't MS try this with the Zune? We all know how that turned out. :\
@(Unverified)
There's a Fender zune!? I would buy that in a second.
she don't lie she don't lie she don't lie
This would have been cool if it was a Fender Nexus One or something. The myTouch is old hat.
I'd rather get a Brazilian HTC Magic (with HTC Sense, but without any guitar apps preinstalled), but it costs even more than an iPhone (and iPhones here aren't cheap)
@Viakenny
You mean a hero?
@danG no, I do mean a Magic (Brazilian HTC Magics have HTC Sense instead of Google Experience) - more info here: http://www.htc.com/br/product/htc-magic/overview.html
I wish they had Nigel Tufnell instead of Eric Clapton.
@Dale P
It would be all black like the Smell the Glove album though
@Dale P
I wish they had Jon Foreman. But nobody else would like that.
Old Rockers should look at Clapton (and Bowie) as a lesson in how to age gracefully. His hair and mode of dress are normal. He even wears a suit and tie from time to time! When you see the way some other guys look (Mick Jagger and the guys from Aerosmith come to mind), you have to say that despite their money they just look sad .
The sour thing is: George harrison wrote the song when his wife then ran off with Clapton.
If you're referring to While My Guitar Gently weeps, it was written long before Pattie "ran off" with Clapton. It was released in 1968... The Layla album was released in 1970 (which was almost entirely about Pattie, still George's wife). George and Pattie weren't divorced until 1977, and she didn't marry Clapton until 1979.
@pohatu771
Actually, George and Eric were good friends at the time this song was written. So much so, that the guitar solo you here in the song is actually Eric, who became the first musician to record live with the Beatles for a song that was eventually released.
John
P.s. The first record song to feature a live musician other than a Beatle was Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da by Paul, who originally recorded it as a kind of Reggae tune (see: Anthology Disc 3).
@bennythedog I'm aware of their friendship and Clapton playing on the track - it just had absolutely nothing to do with Pattie.
Also, any old dude that's cleans shaven and has too much hair and lets it grow too long, immediately starts looking like an old lesbian (google it). Clapton has certainly avoided that (Paul MacCartney)
That...is seriously cool.
I'd like to hear him wailing on that thing - or better yet just wailing on his real Fender...
When is the "Reign In Blood" edition coming out?
Sorry to interfere with all the Beatles discussions going on, but has it been confirmed that the MyTouch 3G is, in fact, getting the 2.1 update in the spring? This is the first time I'm hearing about this. Hope its true as HTC's been pretty quiet on the subject.
Can't they get someone *under* a hundred years old, who actually has some *talent* to promote this thing?
Is it a coincidence that all the dinosaur rockers support Windows and Android and all the cool musicians use Apple gear?
You BEST be trollin'
@Gazoobee
Guarantee all your "cool" musicians look up to Clapton and would call you a moron.
@Gazoobee
"all the cool musicians use Apple gear"
SERIOUSLY?
That garbage that stupid hipster kids dance to on crapple commercials shouldn't even be categorized as music. Apparently that's hard for you to hear with your head up Steve Jobs behind!
faux wood is hot.
i would never buy that phone especially without an official announcement of 2.1
What's the app he's showing?
It's in the way that you use it...
+1 for beatles reference!
